    greetings from germany

  • POWERFULL SONG BOY.UP THE IRB.

  • haha scrags in carlow im from athy

  • the fenians were the bravest of the brave . A worldwide network , the ranks of the British army itself deeply infiltrated , British officers had to sleep with pistols under their pillow in fear of their own men . Invaded canada 3 times , invented the first submarine .They harassed the British empire across the globe and swore themselves to its total destruction .We owe them a great deal for the example they left us . A curse on any Irish leader who makes peace with the occupiers of our land .

  • Great song.... and well sung..."We may have brave men but we will never have better!" So true...We now need our beautiful young people go on"living for Ireland" and working to effect real revolutionary political change on this Island so as to to remove all those despotic Carpetbaggers rather than seeing volleys of shots fired over their coffins as they are being lowered into waterlogged graves in "Milltown Cemetery" or elsewhere............

  • missed a verse

When I was a young girl, their marching and drilling

Awoke in the glenside sounds awesome and thrilling

They loved poor old Ireland, to die they were willing

Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men.

  • Well, this was one of the nicest rebel songs I've ever heard. Greetings from Croatia :)

  • My God that was real good TY for Posting

  • nice.

  • A good performance but the ultimate is Orriel Smith's version on her "A Voice In The Wind" Album

  • I salute the brave Irish freedomfighter who fought and died for their country...

  • Riveting. I heard this song for the 1st time today on a CD by Cherish The Ladies with Paddy Reilly singing lead. Sung from the male perspective, his version is equally take-your-breath-away beautiful. The album is The Girls Won't Leave The Boys Alone, and features incredible collaborations with some of the greats of Celtic music. 1st rate music, but I digress.................Glori-O Frances!

  • Amazing!What emotions!Erin go bragh!

  • mo chroí

  • Frances sang this song as a tribue to Volunteer Joe Cahill at his funeral in Milltown Cemetery in Belfast.

  • ı just remember Bobby Sands from hunger strike, who is Joe Cahill, did he die from hunger strike?,but of course englisharmy and ulster know a lot of way of killing irish resistance fighters

  • Joe Cahill was not a hungerstriker he was an IRA commander and he died in 2004.

  • yes and you turks know all about killing armenians and kurds and unarmed english football fans,so put our own house in order johnny turk

  • You do not know me dude,Do not blame all turks,I have marched in the funeral of Armenian journalist Hrant Dink who has been villainously murdered one year ago,and have said "we are all armenians,we are all Hrant Dink",Do not evaluate all turks as barbars or killers,be sure there are many good turks in Turkey.

  • You will find that you scousers killed far more footie fans than any Turk ever did including your own.

  • Sorry about posting the lyrics here if no one wants to read them. I was trying to help another user and then I remembered I could e-mail them. duh.

  • These are just the lyrics to this version. The lyrics have been altered slightly at different times in the past.

  • Some died by the glenside, some died near a stranger

And wise men have told us that their cause was a failure

But they loved dear old Ireland and they never feared danger

Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men

I passed on my way, God be praised that I met her

Be life long or short, sure I'll never forget her

Well, we may have brave men, but we'll never have better!

Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men.

  • 'Twas down by the glenside, I met an old woman

A pluckin' young nettles, ne'er saw I was comin',

"I listened a while to the song she was hummin'

Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men

Tis fifty long years since I saw the moon beamin'

on strong manly forms and on eyes with hope gleamin'

I see them again, sure through all my sad dreamin'

Glory O, Glory O, to the bold Fenian men.

  • I tried to post the lyrics online but it's too long. Crap.

  • please somebody who knows the words of the song send here,I'm from turkey and support irish freedom fight GLORY TO THE BOLD FENİAN MEN

  • A fine woman's voice for a fine woman's song, also sung from the man's view by the Clancy Brothers, gruff and tough. Bom, bom, bom. Great stuff. My surname apparently means shield in the old tongue and it echoes to hear this sung well.

  • this is so wonderfull, i must hear it again and again. I am addicted :-)

  • This is beautiful; she does a wonderful job on this song. This is one of my favorite Irish songs; every time I hear it I find myself singing along. I have to agree with Krombacher 1: "More than amazing!"
