I think it is annoying when people claim one breed is the absolute best. I mean, come on....there are well over 200 breeds of dogs. Pits are not the only or best by far. I have had wonderful dogs of many breeds, and many were breeds that are not responsible for any deaths. Saying that causes idiots to jump on the pit bandwagon that might be better suited for a spaniel, hunting dog or retriever or something. Do your research.
majority of pit bull attacks are the owner's fault. Also the news does not do their research when they say pitbull attack, they lump anything with a big head in the category of pitbull. I have seen a news article where it was labeled pitbull attack and when the picture came out it was clearly not, so instead of editing the article to change the breed the news paper simply pulled the picture!!!!
For the people that are bashing the pitbull breed, please educate yourself its the dogs owner not the dog that makes it aggressive. Do your homework before you open your mouth. When the breed was created to fight any dogs that were people aggressive were killed because they would not be able to be broken up in the ring. They were trained to be people aggressive not human aggressive. Also look up dog bite reports and the pitbull is below the german shepherd and everyones favorite labs.
i hate pitbulls but i had stray one eyed pitbull that found his way into my heart. kit was his name and he was gentle but never fully trusted him and i will not own one again.kit was special and never seemed aggressive but that didnt stop me from being cautious around him pitbull r aggressive by nature and need to be avoided.
Please educate the pitbull nutters and remind them that pitbulls are not family dogs. Since they are so ignorant, please make them carry liability insurance, so when their dogs attack or kill another life, they can at least pay their medical bills or funeral costs.

There are bad people that get these dogs and train them to do horrible things. Pits have been on the foreline of American history. i have a pit who isnt vicious my cousin have 2 pitbulls around a 2 year old and 4 year old they sit on the dog pull on the dog while the dog sleeps never bites

@FullMetalTrucker Kids can be kids just not around low tolerance canines. Children are hard for the animals to read and unpredictable. A Pitbull is a low tolerance animal as opposed to the Labrador that has high tolerance and doesn't mind its tail being yanked or whatever. Its pretty simple, Teach your kids not to approach dogs they dont know. We own a Blue nose Pitbull named Terry and the last thing on his mind would be to eat a little kid. Blame the deed not the breed.

that just happened to the kids on my bus yesterday but it was a bull dog and it bit a 1st grader and 3 5th graders. im happy i was not hurt but all of them were my friends and they are still not back to school yet. im worried sick.two of them were really hut badly. one was bit 5 times.and they still dont know who the dog belongs to even though they killed it. i was crying all day yesterday. im sad
There are far fewer. Pitbulls top the list in dog attacks, and the attacks they commit are often far more damaging than other dogs due to the sheer power they have.

I had a pitbull named fanny from 3 months until 6 years until she attacked my wife for no reason,and when i tried to stop her she bite into my arm.If my wife didn't go into the kitchen to get that knife she would of tore my arm off. No one askes that. I have seen boys poke dogw with sticks thru a fence, throw things at the dog, and when eventially the dog jumped the fence and went after them, they blamed the dog! Those boys should have been punished and the dog given bone for not putting up with shit.

We have kids down our street that throw rocks at our dogs, one time my daschund said enough and lunged at the fence, i came out an yelled at the kids and took the dogs in the house. We have a daschund, toy poodle, lab/shepherd mix, and a American pit bull terrier/Staffordshire terrier mix.

Sure some dogs have the potential to be more agressive...Dobermens verses Labs..but its only the dog in extreemly rare cases...most of the time the dog that attaks is prevoked or occasionaly its a bad owner who plays up the aggression. I have a Husky, very sweet, but if a kid threw rocks at her Id let her out and after the kid.
Uhm, I don;t know if you actually payed attention. But I am very against breed specific anything. I mentioned that Maltese were banned and someone asked, so I told them. Having trained for awhile I don't know I breed I haven't seen aggression problems in, everytime I've had aggression cases it was the owner who needed change, the dog just needed rehabilitation.
@magicalcrazyness Some dogs are naturally more aggressive, just like some cats, or ppl. Aggressiveness can be more common in some breeds like Rottweilers than Golden retrievers and it has to do with what personality traits breeders looked for, but that doesnt mean all dogs of certain breeds are aggressive, nor does it mean even if they are aggressive there isnt a reason for it. Dogs don't go around attacking for no reason. Your right, training has alot to do with it.
@Morethanenough1 That is true, but did you hear about the recent line of Golden Retreivers that were having aggression. They ae 3rd on the national bite list, search dogs 101 golden retreivers. I'm still not saying they are prone to aggression I just thought it was interesting. I agree that training has a lot ot do with it, having owned all three of the breeds labeled as pit bulls, Rottwielers, Dobermans,Mastiffs I never had a problem with aggression. Then again I know how to train a dog.

@Morethanenough1 Very true, I always try to train my dogs not to let their prey drive kick in. My last apbt met a Popbelly pig(I don't really know now a pig expert :P ) and he sniffed it walked away. It started running around snorting and the dog could care less. While my friends lab mix was going nuts barking and lunging at it. I think responsability has a lot to do with it as well, people bring dogs that are nervous to dog parks and the dog ends up attacking out of fear.

Also the news does not do their research when they say pitbull attack, they lump anything with a big head in the category of pitbull. I have seen a news article where it was labeled pitbull attack and when the picture came out it was clearly not, so instead of editing the article to change the breed the news paper simply pulled the picture!!!!

For the people that are bashing the pitbull breed, please educate yourself its the dogs owner not the dog that makes it aggressive. Do your homework before you open your mouth. When the breed was created to fight any dogs that were people aggressive were killed because they would not be able to be broken up in the ring. They were trained to be people aggressive not human aggressive. Also look up dog bite reports and the pitbull is below the german shepherd and everyones favorite labs.

i hate pitbulls but i had stray one eyed pitbull that found his way into my heart. kit was his name and he was gentle but never fully trusted him and i will not own one again.kit was special and never seemed aggressive but that didnt stop me from being cautious around him pitbull r aggressive by nature and need to be avoided.

There are bad people that get these dogs and train them to do horrible things. Pits have been on the foreline of American history. Fighting with us in World War 1, they fight with our police force, and they are rescure dogs. You can not tell me that even through all this, Pits are human hungry beast? Yea right.. I feel for this girl. Every time I hear a story like this, it breaks my heart, but this is the out come of a bad owner.

If you are not certified or train to handle that animals. Maybe there would be a less dog biting and injuries. Then be busy fearing which breed is dangerous and killing them off. WOW, Talk about carma, Back in 1998, My 9 year old neice stepped off her school bus and was mauled to death by 3 pit bulls. They mauled her so bad we could not open her casket. Unlike my neice, this little girl survived. If they were to pass an ordinance to kill every pit bull alive, puppies and all, we would NEVER hear about a little child being killed by pit bulls again. @FullMetalTrucker Kids can be kids just not around low tolerance canines. Children are hard for the animals to read and unpredictable. A Pitbull is a low tolerance animal as opposed to the Labrador that has high tolerance and doesn't mind its tail being yanked or whatever. Its pretty simple, Teach your kids not to approach dogs they dont know. We own a Blue nose Pitbull named Terry and the last thing on his mind would be to eat a little kid. Blame the deed not the breed.

@TheCustom41 From the stories I've listened to, it wasn't so much a problem of approaching the pit - but rather the pit running loose and approaching them. Also, it's hard to teach your kids to stay away from a dog that shares the family home.

The dog cant change what he was bred for... Any dog has the potential to maul a child. I worked in a dog kennel and came across some pretty fierce Labradors that wouldent mind taking a bite out of little Sams arm or face. It comes down to early socialization and training.

I would say responsible adults without chidren are able to reap what they sow. If the pits attack them, it's on them. It is usually the IRRESPONSIBLE adults who let their dogs get loose to attack innocents. And I think it is they who make matters worse for the breed. However, it is these irresponsible people who bred the ferrocity into the dog.

If I were being attacked by any dog, I would try to put both of it's eyes out and then break it's jaws...or crush it's ribs be putting all of my weight on it. Too many people just try to get away from the dog...ATTACK IT INSTEAD!!! Teach your children what to do if a dog attacks them.
Please, do not single out Pitbulls out as any breed of dog can attack without provoctation and at any time. Pits seem to be more aggressive but that is probably caused by bad owners...not bad dogs.

I had a pitbull named fanny from 3 months until 6 years until she attacked my wife for no reason,and when i tried to stop her she bite into my arm.If my wife didn't go into the kitchen to get that knife she would of tore my arm off. I still don't know what caused her to flip out that day,she was always a good and loving dog.We had to give her up my wife didn't want her around nor did i.I don't know if it is the breed but from my personal experience they could be unstable.

na. trust me on this. no matter how u train a pitbull no matter how much u think it is tame and safe and no matter how much it obeys u all it takes is one instant for this savage breed of dog to lose it and go ona rampage. these dogs are already banned in many european contries and they should ban them in he US also

@Spitfire995 i own a pitbull he is the sweetest thing in the world and i have 2 children one 13 and another 7 my pitbull loves them both and is very watchfull.... PLEASE!!!!!!! dont blame the breed a dog is only as bad as someone makes it be... this is like saying (im not being rascit please dont be offended) oh no that guys black hes going to shoot me and go rob a house soon.... no dog is a natural killer!!!!

@mike123asd nope, i seen pitbulls who were raised and owned by perfectly good owners but still attacked. that is why i carry an eight inch switchblade at all times when i walk my dog or take him to the dog park. because if any of these vicious beasts tries to kill my dog or me i will plunge my knife into the dogs neck and head and then knock out the owner if he or she gives me any trouble. theres also a reason why these dogs are being banned everywhere, because ppl realize they are dangerous

i think the girl might have looked it in the eye, Cesar Millan says never make eye contact with a dog when it's being territorial. poor little girl and the pitbull, the owner was probably irresponsable, it wasn't the little girl's fault, i understand a 15 yr old but this girl was 9, and it wasn't the pitbull's so it was noone's fault but the owner's, FUCK THE OWNER 4 lettin it on the street don't they know it can get sick 4m other dogs and it could hurt ppl, ITS A BIG RESPONSIBILITY!

She may have fucked with it or tried to get close to the pitbulls territory, Second of all, The owners, a Pitbull should be raised to feel calm with other humans around him. No one askes that. I have seen boys poke dogw with sticks thru a fence, throw things at the dog, and when eventially the dog jumped the fence and went after them, they blamed the dog! Those boys should have been punished and the dog given bone for not putting up with shit.

Very true, considering the pit was okay with the other members of the family i think the girl might of provoked it, but the family didnt want to tell anyone that.
We have kids down our street that throw rocks at our dogs, one time my daschund said enough and lunged at the fence, i came out an yelled at the kids and took the dogs in the house. We have a daschund, toy poodle, lab/shepherd mix, and a American pit bull terrier/Staffordshire terrier mix.

@magicalcrazyness How can a "breed" be bad? This banning of breeds is sick. It does nothing for the issues. Sure some dogs have the potential to be more agressive...Dobermens verses Labs..but its only the dog in extreemly rare cases...most of the time the dog that attaks is prevoked or occasionaly its a bad owner who plays up the aggression. I have a Husky, very sweet, but if a kid threw rocks at her Id let her out and after the kid.

Uhm, I don;t know if you actually payed attention. But I am very against breed specific anything. I mentioned that Maltese were banned and someone asked, so I told them. Having trained for awhile I don't know I breed I haven't seen aggression problems in, everytime I've had aggression cases it was the owner who needed change, the dog just needed rehabilitation.

@magicalcrazyness Some dogs are naturally more aggressive, just like some cats, or ppl. Aggressiveness can be more common in some breeds like Rottweilers than Golden retrievers and it has to do with what personality traits breeders looked for, but that doesnt mean all dogs of certain breeds are aggressive, nor does it mean even if they are aggressive there isnt a reason for it. Dogs don't go around attacking for no reason. Your right, training has alot to do with it.

@Morethanenough1 That is true, but did you hear about the recent line of Golden Retreivers that were having aggression. They ae 3rd on the national bite list, search dogs 101 golden retreivers. I'm still not saying they are prone to aggression I just thought it was interesting. I agree that training has a lot ot do with it, having owned all three of the breeds labeled as pit bulls, Rottwielers, Dobermans,Mastiffs I never had a problem with aggression. Then again I know how to train a dog.

@magicalcrazyness No i havent heard that, but I know a friend with 3 large Dobbies and I have no fear of bringing kids around them. Training has almost everything to do with pet behavior, bc even if you have an aggressive dog, you can train him not to act on it.

@Morethanenough1 Very true, I always try to train my dogs not to let their prey drive kick in. My last apbt met a Popbelly pig(I don't really know now a pig expert :P ) and he sniffed it walked away. It started running around snorting and the dog could care less. While my friends lab mix was going nuts barking and lunging at it. I think responsability has a lot to do with it as well, people bring dogs that are nervous to dog parks and the dog ends up attacking out of fear.

poor girl, but its not the dogs fault. Pitbulls are agressive breeds and owner have have be responsible with them. Dogs that attack like this, its the owner, they should be punished, not the poor dog who wasnt taught better. Its ignorant and cruel too kill an innocent dog.

I agree with you that the owner should have been punished... but pit bulls are not an aggresive breed, some do have can be aggresive with other dogs, but even in the dog fighting they were bred to be human friendly, they didnt want dogs who would attack the handlers no matter how much pain there in.
