I love TMNT 89-mid 90s. Got all the figures from 89 still in the packages hanging on my wall! and i always loved how they would make errors in the coloring of their masks.
I used to wake up early before school to watch this and Captin Planet, Bobby's World, and Magic School Bus, and I was 8. I still love these classics at 21. : )
its so wicked i have on volume 1 i don't know why i said volume 1 because you could some of it on volume 5 you can see until the part where rocksteady get hit in the head.
I didn't like tmnt for the graphics or the fighting.. i liked it for its charm. The new one scraped it and just improved its graphics and violence. The old ones are superior to the new ones.
Uh no..the name was not changed for the US release. It was changed for the UK because the UK censors said that the word "ninja" had too many negative connotations. The real name has always been Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The comic spawned toys, that then spawned the show. Hardcore TMNT fans didnt like the move, because it was such a big change, due to the lack of violence.
cartoons were way better back then. Not that crappy animation that we see today. I use to love watching this in the afternoon around 3:30pm when I got back home from 5th grade. That was back in like 1989-90
I miss this old cheez whiz. Today's stuff isn't better, but due to lack of morals, today's kid shows are allowed to come right out and say rude things. No need to be clever or corny today when you can come right out and call people stupid.
Because the new one more or less follows the stories of the original comics which while good meant that anyone who had read them knew what was going to happen.
They gave the Shredder a radical new origin as an Untrom as a twist to show that anything could happen.
They reversed this later when they revealed that Ch'rell had based the Oroku Saki identity on a real person that was the first Shredder.
It's no less a liberty to the original than this series did. I guess every version is unique.
they rock but one BS thing about the arcade game was that no matter what, the bosses hit you. Even if you are kicking their butt, they just come out of nowhere and nail you
The First Season(1987) is the best of all ten season! The first five ep. are very contious in going towards the second season(1988). But ep.#1 and ep.#4 are the best ep. of all ten season!
At least release some of the comics arcs into straight-to-DVD films, I would love to see the City at War arc adapted into an animated film, but hopefully retaining its darker tones.
The closest I think we'll ever get to a faithful adaption to the original Eastman & Laird's stories is the 2003 cartoon.
Thinking about it the first season of 2003 adapted the Eastman & laird stories quite faithfuly with the "The King" & "Shredder Strikes Back" being as close as a kids cartoon will allow.
It's when they moved beyond adapting stories the two wrote together that they began to bring in new twists and storylines. Then again there'd have fast run out of stories to tell otherwise.
You only think that because of nostalgia. In truth they're about the same.
This series was like the Adam West Batman series in that it had an incredibly catchy theme song and was the first of it's kind but took great liberties with the characters and themes.
The new cartoon isn't perfect but it sticks quite close to the stories from the original black and white comics. It doesn't butcher the characters like the '87 series did.
The early comic stories had a definite sense of fun especialy if you knew what they were influenced
The original characters have personality. If anything the cartoon toned them down, the best example of that would be Raph. From a hot head who can't control his temper to the sarcastic one.
I still say it could have stayed true to the original and still be fun. The first live action movie did a good job at mixing the two and did great and so did the 2003 cartoon.
Adam West's series was reflecting the state of the comic book at the time, you can thank "Seduction of the Innocent" for that one.
And there was no "butchering" of any characters, whilst you say "Duh, nostalgia", I'd argue that gives me free reign to call "COMIC ELITIST" on your ass.
I'm by no means a comic elitest or I wouldn't like the 2k3 series as it isn't entirely accurate either and despite my mixed feelings I do like this series too particularly this season. Hence why I originaly said they were both about equal in quality.
I maintain that it could have been more faithful to Mirage and still sell toys to kids. A lot of the David Wise episodes at least tried to take elements from the comics and the first movie made an admirable attempt at mixing the two.
Maybe "Butchered" was a poor choice of words but they did drasticaly reimagine characters. Look at Leatherhead and Stockman.
I've often heard fans of this use that term about the new toon mistakenly thinking 4kids arbitrarily changed the characters when all they did was portray them closer to their original versions.
Maybe if they'd tried to be make it a little more faithful there wouldn't bu so much of a divide between fans of the two.
man the cartoons of the 80s and the 90s were soo awsome. i watched some new cartoons the other day and they were soo retarded! The time of good cartoons has definitely come and gone

Nah. The new one follows the original comic stories which this series sadly overlooked.
The only thing that this series really has over it is the catchy theme song and it's early use of humour.

Yeah, I mean why the hell did they turn shredder into an alien in a robot?

Because the new one more or less follows the stories of the original comics which while good meant that anyone who had read them knew what was going to happen.
They gave the Shredder a radical new origin as an Untrom as a twist to show that anything could happen.
