Windows Media Center: TV - Where and When You Want It

in Media Center can you watch TV without any hardware??

or it needs something to buy?

You need to plug in TV cable to get the channels. You can't just view it through the internet connection alone. Hope this clears up any misunderstanding this this clearly falsely advertised feature.

I still can't get internet tv, I followed the steps with the download, which I did and it said that it'll download a guide or something and once it was completed, I restarted WMC and there wasn't any changes

If the download completed it should be under "TV" on the main menu. Was it there before you restarted?

The only options are 'recorded tv' and 'live tv setup'

Have you tried re-downloading the WMC data? If you are sure the update was downloaded, you should head over the the Microsoft Answers forum for more technical help:

You will only need a tv tuner for broadcast tv, but you can still access Internet TV. Here are more details (without the spaces in the URL of course):

My friend uses this instead of TiVo, and it won't let him watch his recorded shows on any portable devices like iPhone. It's copy guarding everything he tapes. Pointless! Any workarounds?

most OSes are obligated to ahere to copyright restrictions but I'm almost possitive there are some 3rd part programs that let you export the programs to avi and divx formats... though not sure iphone can play Divx.

No, Windows Media Center uses your cable provider so if you have a TV tuner (you can get one for about $50 to plug into your USB port) you can connect the cable cord to your PC and watch and record TV. If you have an Xbox 360 you can output windows media center to your TV wirelessly. You can also put Windows Media center on your TV through a cable too if you want to. Oh yeah, you can also watch instant netflix movies in Windows Media Center and a lot of other cool stuff like see internet TV.

You need to buy a TV tuner for your PC. It will let you:

-watch shows on ATSC (DTV) channels

-watch channels in Clear QAM (from your cable provider, though it's probably just broadcast)

-listen to analog FM radio stations.

Setup is easy (usually) and you can use WMC as a DVR. Also, Windows 7 will enable you to hook up an OpenCable (CableCARD) tuner to your PC, so you can dump your cable box and get all of your cable TV (minus Pay Per View and On Demand) on Windows Media Center.
