I was a MC Rell fan. My brother Shamar use to dance for him in a couple of videos and got to go on tour. This was the golden era just a good time for fresh music. Is it true that he became a New York State Trooper. Either way he made his mark in my Hip-Hop History Book. PEACE to MC RELL!!!
subscribe to my channel and you will basically automatically get to watch the interview with mc rell i am going to post this week. (june 25, 2009) i will talk to him about how he thinks about rap music now and why he stopped rapping (because there is an interesting story) and what he does for a living nowadays. he is 40 years old now.
I've got to say, your father dropped quite a profound message on this track... he predicted emcees' utilization of James Brown samples in their records before any hip-hop aficionados began to realize it, and broke down the unfortunate realities of the musical industry in grand fashion. It's such a shame that enthusiasts tend to overlook your dad just because he sounded similar to Rakim... he brought a lot of his own style into the equation as well. I can't wait to see your interview with him. :)
An unworthy generation of kids (25 & old kids) inherited the mantle of "Gate Keepers" of Hip Hop & they dropped the ball badly..
They're like the errant child that the family business was entrusted to & they totally ignored their wiser elders & siblings, in terms of running the 'Family business' & ran it into the ground.

@BigLupeRakimDee
I don't think other MC's didn't already know they were using James Brown like crazy.
they knew, fans knew it - parents/fans of James knew it.
It was either sample him, Aretha, or other soul artists.
James was just so funky :-)

@StupidVids2009
loved the song "Something about this". i first heard it at the age of 11 in 1989
i liked this song too, the message in this song was pretty clear and to the point.
i hope your pops is alright these days.
