My beta won't make bubbles and when they are together they don't mate, what's wrong?

keely010, same here! My white male won't blow a nest at all. Try moving some of the nest from a different pairs spawning into the no nest tank and that will encourage the pair that isn't working to maybe build a nest

I use to mate bettas for a living. Most cases the male betta wont squeeze out her eggs he will just kill her. You have to have a place for her to hide till he is in the mood for mateing and also if the nest is not fully done he will kill her. and keep a towel over the top of the tank. A sudden change in temp can kill the eggs. Or you could end up with nothing but females.

You can also tell one of them is male from longer ventrals, and on the female you can see how noticeable her ovipositer is.

@yeebthaijyaj that means he's not conditioned right or is too young to bred still. but i have a technique i use for feirce fighters. take the femal away introduce another male let them fight for about 5 minutes then take that male out. put female back in they should breed.

What you have is two females. If you watch closely they are both dropping eggs after they squeeze during embrace. Females also make bubble nets although they are very small. You will notice when they suck the eggs into there mouths they either spit them back out or swallow them while taking air from the bubble net. A male picks up the egg and places it into the bubble net. They aren't breeding they are acting out a spawning. Watch the byson303 video the guy is really good with betas breeding.

That's what real fighting fish look like not like the ones here in america with the long fancy tails real fighting fish have short fins even the males. long tail bettas are breed that way there are absolutely no long tail fighting fish in the wild.

@devonmeloan have you tried putting them side by side with a devider sometime males like that i put female in glass jar and keep in the tank with the male. if he is too young he makes bad nest like that too. feed live food it makes fish much better

some male bettas do not eat the babies . they can stay together for a week. its all depends in the male but you definitely have to remove the female right after they finish spawning

when you put the feamale in the tank use the plastic cup you bot her in and change the water if it's blue and use the water  from the tank and wait for a weak and he has the nest
