Man, you have no idea how I think is soooo mind blowing the transition at 5:00, the change at the bass drum rythm make a complete new progress to the riff

It's awesome to hear the drums by themselves. Lar's feet are a-movin'! I think his drumming on the Puppets album was the most intricate and complex, in my opinion.
@Nickhead87 no way AJFA is way more complex... try playing Shortest Straw, that drum part sounds easy but it's complex as fuck it's definately one of the hardest to play.
Yeah, Straw is definitely a crazy one, but the rest of the album seems to contain simpler beats. Then again, I'm gonna have to go back and listen to it all again.
Wtf. Such posers. Although my name implies that I like Megadeth, Metallica is still number 2. Anyways, back on topic. Mr. Sleepwalker Mustaine did not write this. Here is the material Mustaine has credit on-
Kill 'Em All: The Four Horsemen, Jump In the Fire, Phantom Lord, Metal Militia
Ride the Lightning: Title track, The Call of Ktulu.

Ppl say Lars sucks cause he's slow, but he and metallica invented speed metal. Today every band has faster drummers, but compare metallica to any band of the 80's and see, the were the fastest mofos!
@imisterchris no. But Metallica was not ahead of their time by any means. They are good but its a lot of wash rinse repeat. I own every album. Not saying there bad just saying for the date an time no they weren't the heaviest. I use to think lars was the BEST in general until i started listening to something other than metallica. George Kollias , Roddy, Barker, an more at just incredible at double bass. An no i don't think double bass should be the length of a song...
@bsrob1 Lars, James, Kirk and Rob/Cliff/Jason were never the best individually. Together, however, they've made some of the best music metal music in history, regardless of ability and technical complexity.

@Videoleks Hardly. How many thrash drummers have you ever heard? He wasn't new or anything by doing double-bass, his fills are nothing BIll Ward hadn't done a decade before. He's basically a lesser Dave Lombardo.
@logstrain Then WTF is the problem here? Since Lars has been the inspiration for many of your so-called better drummers, he is above them all. You can't compare him to the nowadays ones like Portnoy or Trivium's, what the hell. He's unique as he has unique style and quite invented thrash drumming style, so don't mix him up with other guys who just "improve" it their way.
@dbzsony yeah same shit happened with mechanix dont you remember? listen to the fucking solo and you know why im sayin it, besides a bunch of articles and interviews ive read

@WWFATTITUDEERAFAN I agree. I don't care if they are sellouts or not, or how complex the music is, I care only about how it sounds. I think The black album really great.
master of puppets has one of the best sounds ive ever heard in any style of music. the drums, the bass, the guitars, the vocals everything is mixed and recorded perfectly and its all so in your face. Please, give me some answer that not concert stupid insult, man. It's true that Lars Ulrich isn't a good drummer. ALL drummers who have studied a little are in according to this fact... So please don't insult but support your ideas with some smart comment.
@SpaceDyeDream yeah i just find it harder than dyers eve becuase you dont really have a part where you can slow down,un like dyers eve during the break and also in battery you have the fucking crossovers with the toms......i hate playing that shit but it feels good once you get it down
@captaincadavor if you dont think any metallica song is hard on drums play the shortest straw or dyers eve blackened theres harder songs out there but those arent easy

Don't get me wrong, Lars is the best drummer for Metallica, however Dave Lombardo is around the same age as Lars and can go just as fast, if not faster.(Even though drumming is not all about speed)
I really respect Lars, because of him I really want to start playing drums. I know, there can be much better drummers, but Lars is for me maybe the first "real" drummer what I heard. You know, you can hear good and not ordinary drumming, usually. I hope that you understand my very bad english but I tried my best. aaaaaaaarg,hard...
Lars was meant for this band because metallica wasn't about JUST the drums. I'm pretty sure people rember them by their guitar riffs, or is that just me? Anyways, while displaying some of his talent, not all at the same time, people could enjoy cool drums with some STELLAR solos and awesome riffs at the same time. No one else could have made up this drum part
two different drummers, lars has this cool ass off timing shit that works well with james, Lombardo is badass and has his own curve that makes him unique as well, so In my eyes stalemate....
Why does one drummer have to be better than the other? Why can't anyone just agree that Ulrich is just as awesome as Lombardo and vice versa? They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Get over it.
Why oh why did Lars just stop practicing? He was so good and now just goes through the motions not really even caring if he is on time.

Look at The Call of Ktulu riff by Mustaine. Sounds dark and evil in Ktulu but in Hangar 18, the riff is used in a totally different way.

Now as much as i hate this band, these drums actually sound like drums. Don't get me wrong, they still suck, but not as much.

If you hate them so much why would you come here. go back to Robin Trower and his many goofy faces.

No one else could have made up this drum part

two different drummers, lars has this cool ass off timing shit that works well with james, Lombardo is badass and has his own curve that makes him unique as well, so In my eyes stalemate....

i agree i think you couldnt get a better drummer for metallica if you did then it wouldnt be metallica

Why does one drummer have to be better than the other? Why can't anyone just agree that Ulrich is just as awesome as Lombardo and vice versa? They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Get over it.
