it'll be sad when the moon drifts too far away that we wont be able to see that cool diamond ring phenomena or any real total solar eclipse anymore :(
@bwd81977 actually it gets darker than night. since the moon goes in front of the sun, it seems like night but the moon is not reflecting light either so, clearly, it must be darker. lol oxymoron
@MrDbz1995 Oh yeah! I should have known. I thought I knew quite a bit about astronomy but evidentaly not. :-) But even the guys who know a lot still dont know the half of it...
seen it in the uk in 1999, i was wrecked at work with the lads sat on a hill, it was cool, it wasnt like night time dark but it was quite dark, what was strange was the reaction of the birds, they started flying into the trees and were silent
@jbittjbitt There was a partial eclipse in '96 up in DC. It looked like sunset in the middle of the day. It was beautiful and kind of eerie at the same time.
@Salien1999 They say the next total will be visible somewhere in KY aug 2018, but i'm like most of asia, india and africa and the islands get them like 800 times in a year...it's like has God forgotten us over here in the northern hemisphere?
a UFO was captured in perfect quality on a high resolutions China News camera on this day. the investigation of the video is going to take a year and that means we are only 2 months away from this disclosure. i hope it brings the evidence needed. god bless this eclipse and day and everyone. lol im pumped
OMG!!!!!!! I would love to c 1 in real life just a couple of days ago the moon went on top of the sun me and my sister saw it on our way from wal-mart i guess it wasn't a total eclispe but its as close to 1 i've ever seen
It can only make you blind if you look at it with the naked eye, but if you're wearing the right stuff or looking at it on tv or something you'll be fine.
I love that such a simple thing as perspective, an easy enough concept for any individual to understand, can mark such profundity and majesty in our little corner of the universe.
For a moment, only a sweet solemn moment, does the earth and moon and sun align in such a fashion to present such beauty, and that only from perspective, is this beauty beheld.
Truth, the eclipse of the sun, can only be known from one vector, but that vector always changes in time.
@YawnGod I really hope you're being facetious. Didn't you know there was a lunar eclipse the day Jesus died? When the moon rose that evening, it was already in totality--a blood moon. A life fully lived, blotted out in blood. What's more, it was at the foot of the Virgin, as it had been as a new moon at Jesus' birth. When the moon went into eclipse on the day of the cross, the sun was put out in the heart of the Paschal Ram. Cosmic poetry, written by God at the founding of the universe.
this video is a shortcut, showing the two magic moments , the diamondrings. For my location west of Hangzhou duration was a bit over 5 minutes. Maximum duration was over 6.5 minutes in the Pacific ocean.
the danger is not the eclipse.. the danger is to look at the sun. the sun is full of harmful light, visible and invisible IR, UV. only once all the sun is covered by the moon then it is safe to look with the naked eye. yes, next total solar eclipse in USA is 2017. and in May 2012 we get an annular RING solar eclipse in western USA , incl. TX panhandle at sunset, in May... maybe with a tornado nearby ???
ur an idiot 123 years ahaqhahhahahaahahhhahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhhahahahaaahahahahhahhahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaahhaahahahahahhhahaahhahahahahahahahahaha
Amazing footage. I never noticed how the sun's brightness overtakes the moon the second the moon moves out of the way enough that just a sliver of the sun shows. I hope I live to see a solar eclipse that happens here in the US before I die!

You might, I recall a solar eclipse occurring somewhere in the early 90's and I think it happens once in 50 years or so in an area.
NASA has a website for this kinda of stuff. According to their website, there's supposed to be an eclipse happening on Easter Island next year.
Now that'd be a place to see an eclipse! :D
