  • Forever Changes was a great album.

  • Just a beautiful song and a wonderful man. May his spirit live forever. I have the original album!

  • never heard this before, a friend sent me it, fucking brilliant

  • That was nothing short of magnificent.

  • I had the enormous good fortune to present Arthur and this lineup in concert in Colorado about a year before we lost him. He and the band were nothing short of brilliant - people of a certain vintage age in the audience during this opening song were in tears.

Arthur was a total pro, very generous, extremely kind, a little shy... the great thing is that at the end of his life he knew how much people loved him and admired him.

God bless you Arthur. It was my honor. It really was.

  • One of the most amazing and well deserved comebacks in music. Unfortunately it didn't last longer. Arthur Lee was a genius and his music remains timeless.

  • RIP Arthur

  • Saw them at the much missed Limelight club in Crewe, Ray the owner had no idea who He'd booked and was gobsmacked at the fact people had to be shoehorned in, a fantastic night was had and luckily I have a soundboard recording,. Happy days, in the same twelve months or so we got Paul Kantner and the Vanilla fudge...R.I.P. Arthur Lee and the wonderful Limey.

  • bryan maclean wrote this, not arthur lee

  • AL sounds amazingly good considering the hard life he had and his untimely death just two years later. AL, Bryan McLean, and Love are criminally underrated and forgotten by the musical establishment. "Forever Changes" was such an incredible (if troubled) band! I wish AL and all the others (Syd Barrett, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Garcia and on and on in the sad litany) were still here and jamming- who needs another "Coldplay" album???

  • You just cannot beat Memphis boys when it comes to total invention. Stax. Volt. Hi. Alex, there's a hole in the bridge. Mister Arthur Lee, sorry I missed you. Unbelievable song.

  • Furst time hearing this...I really like the melody of this song.

  • Tijuana brass meets psychadelic funk - How can you beat it,,,,Brilliant

  • totally essential

    eternally haunting

  • Forever Changes is one of my favourite albums ever.Saw Arthur Lee in London in 2004 and he was fantastic!

  • 'Forever Changes'.......one of the greatest albums ever. Saw Arthur in Manchester in 2004. Superb gig.

  • 'Saw these guys play many times. Loved "Forever Changes". I always wondered why a band as great as Love faded away like they did. Arthur Lee tried many times to revive the band but heroin and $ troubles that took out the first band poisoned promotors and they never touched them again. Finally, California's 3 strike law put Lee away for a mandatory 10 yrs. A creative guy who never hurt anyone did 5+ years, got out, and leukemia took him in '06.

He didn't play the blues. He lived 'em.....

  • I don't know man. Setting fire to an ex girlfriends porch, threatening someone with a gun.. I wouldn't say he wasn't hurtful towards people

  • I've heard this song many times, but until someone told me the name of the song or the name of the band, I didn't know who it was. I thought I was listening to the Moody Blues.

  • Also nice covers by The Damned and Calexico, proves the greatness of this song!

  • hey this is one of the greatest bands I have seen in the last decade. That they managed to do this so close to ALs parting sort of made me feel privileged to have caught their act. Y viva los 60s/long live the 60s.

  • I can't see no reason to make any covers of Love. It's so perfect as it is so anyone who tries will just make an ass of himself! :D true!

  • Одна из лучших песен ever.

  • one of my favorite bands ever, but without Bryan Maclean, it ain't Love . . .

  • Arthur Lee and Love were simply too hip for most people to comprehend during the 60s. Therefore, he was unable to make a complete fruition of his true genius.

Perhaps mismanagement had a bit to do with it also.

Nevertheless, he will be greatly missed and, unfortunately, under exposed in the history books. RIP brother. You have a great heart that will be felt on the "other side".

    LOVE always

  • Absolutely fucking brilliance. Arthur Lee is Genius. RIP

  • A Bryan Maclean-guitarist from the original Love-song...

  • One of the biggest influences in modern music, yet, unsung...

Arthur gave Jimi his first recording session, ca. 1964, and Jimi's style of dress was also influenced by Arthur. They were both so ahead of their times!

  • КАЙФ!!

  • Great trumpet (or whatever solo).

  • Great number.

  • Love forever lives through Arthur Lee and his music- it is magic.

  • Anyone who saw them perform in LA in the 60's as a whole band would have been very very lucky

  • Why is there a cartoon bubble over Arthur Lee's face during one of the most important lyrical moments of this performance?

  • Lovely rómantíska lag

  • I was fortunate to see the old guy not long after this and not long before he unfortunately passed away and he did not disapoint! ...a real 60's legend and like the Beatles & Beach Boys Love were a stand-alone sound and truly something different and new at that time!

  • I saw Calexico do this (and a whole show) with a full Mariachi band at a small theater in Tucson a few years back. Pretty cool, but i regret not seeing Arthur do this tour...

  • I had the unbelievable luck and pleasure to see Him before he took it to Europe.

    What a Sound,

    What a Writer

    What Magic

    ARTHUR LIVES

  • The Master.....he will NEVER be replaced, one of a kind. RIP

  • i grew up with his music. he shook my soul. he plays magic.

  • Love Forever

  • A lovely song.UFO did a cover of this also on their LIGHTS OUT album

  • Yeah the UFO version is worth hearing - slightly verbose, but a good tribute to a great song and a legend.

  • @ruffledme The Damned did a great version too, as did Calexico. (their's was without the horns and strings)

  • you didn't deserve 2 thumbs down, UFO is a great band, and had great taste by covering this...

  • I loved both the UFO version and the one by Arthur Lee,to me they are both great. Thanks for your support, but i suppose everyone has an opinion.I saw this version live on Jools Holland and at the time i thought it was great.

    RIP Arthur Lee.

  • yes that is an understatement lol. i see some smart things written on here and some really boneheaded things also...it's as though you can't like UFO and LOVE since they're completely different kinds of music...it's good to be eclectic.

  • magical tune....

  • Paolo Nutini sings this amazingly

  • O00Ooo... I'll need to have a wee looky for that. Thanks.

  • No worries, if you find it can you send me the link please?

He sung it the other night at his gig, and now i can't find him singing it anywhere haha!

  • I saw Arthur Lee perform Forever Changes at the Royal Festival Hall in London and remember an involuntary tear start to roll down my cheek as the first notes of Alone Again Or shimmered in the dark. I was crying both with gratitude and in disbelief - was this really the mythic figure of Arthur Lee singing for us? We'll always love you, Arthur.

  • Me too

  • Thanks 'Bottle Rocket', for turning me onto Love.

  • lo viví en madrid, se me erizaron los pelos!!!!

  • Came across love in the mid eighties and have played "forever changes" so many times. To see and hear Arthur lee play live is amazing. Thankyou

  • amazingly gifted musician, timeless song.

  • calexico does a great cover but there is nothing like the original

  • A beautiful song.

    Amazing

  • This must have been done just before he died. It's a great performance.

  • Yeah I'd wager it was recorded before his death

  • We were disappointed that he didn't play Alone Again Or at the gig in Glasgow. There was no strings section, but the rest of the concert was fantastic.

  • His live shows were always spot on performances.

  • Awesome! I watched this at the time and loved it. Thanks for posting.

  • Okay, this'll sound weird, but the first time I EVER heard this guy was this very appearance with "You Set the Scene"...2 hours after seeing the movie Grindhouse, and I was thinking how absolutely GREAT these two songs would sound on a future Tarantino movie! I didn't know Arthur Lee had died until I looked him up, though. But I did buy one of those "Definitive Collections". He was definitely better than his '60's counterparts like Jimi, Janis, and Jim. Wish I got to see him live! :(

  • Awesome - how tragic that he's no longer with us - but brilliant that he introduced an entie new generation to his timeless and beautiful music - and that he was appreciated for his art at what would turn out to be the end of his life :(

  • yes - we went to see Arthur Lee as a direct result of this appearance on Jools Holland and were privileged to see one of his last shows in Britain before he died. What a life, and what a talent!

  • Yeah, me too. Apart from a mention in a Lloyd Cole song, I'd never really heard of him til this. So glad I did.

  • The Damned did a cover of this, and Pale Fountains/Shack owe much to Lee's/Love's sound. Great song--the Love concert at the Royal Albert is a majestic listen.

  • calexico also
