@JoJoDeathunter To my (little) understanding it's been embedded into Chinese culture through Confucian beliefs since the Qing dynasty (17th Century), it'd be pretty hard for a few generations to fight back a whole spiritual belief, but I guess it's possible.

@zoo1619 My dear, the Qing dynasty was only a few centuries ago. Confucius lived in the Zhou dynasty which ran from 1046–256 BC. That's thousands of years ago. But yes, Confucian beliefs and traditions is still deeply imbedded in China's culture as well as other East Asian cultures. The preference for males is because the males "pass on the family line" while the females marry into another family. China should abolish the one-child policy, it's doing more harm than good.

@zoo1619 Confucian beliefs has always been strong in China since its early stages and influenced other beliefs such as Taoism as well as deeply rooting itself into other East Asian cultures. :) The Qing dynasty was a really horrible time with rebellions and uprisings sprouting left and right and was actually founded by the Manchu and was China's last dynasty. Several million died and many people left China to escape from the civil wars, my family included.
