I have an original ticket to Mudd Club from early 1980's, when the ticket got you in and also got you two drinks. It's in perfect condition. I bet it's the only one in existance.
I remember seeing The Cramps opening up for Siouxie and the Banshees back in 1982 at the Hollywood Palladium and Lux stole the show!!!
A lot of people (that includes me!) came only just to see the Cramps and many have left before Siouxie came on. It just shows that people know who has raw talent and guts!
I went to the Mudd Club once in my life, which happened to be in 1981. Which is when this was shot. But the Cramps weren't performing there that night.
@bobgure it's was called TR 3 and 10 year old Harley Flannagan's(Stimulators,Cro-mags) Mom worked there as a bartender..best show there that I was at , was The Stimulators opening for Bad Brains in February of 1980 or 1979 I don't remember for sure LOL
@roamnet I'm so glad you were there to remember it all. It was a memorable time in my life. Along with Hilary and the rest of the gang we rescued Katleen and Maureen's (RIP blessed souls) failing bar/rest "Tier 3" (it's three tiered architectural design, remember the upstairs madness, LOL?) - and started the dollar beer dance parties and eventually Hilary started booking the bands......new order, lounge lizards, 8 eyedspy etc. Stimulators were regulars (RIP Patrick as was Rosebud, Har's mom.
@bobgure yep Bob, I have to say, only an eyewitness would know this stuff you know, chain of events, and bands/people you mentioned..remember "Jack Rabid" who also DJ there on punk nights? I am glad to have survived those years and all the drugs and insanity to reminisce about them with you on you tube lol..from what you said you def. were more on the inside of the club then anyone still around.
@bobgure .I was just a 16 year old russian kid who took the train to NYC to hang out and go to hardcore punk gigs from brighton beach and fought all the "normal people" back in brooklyn every day just for the way I looked and dressed
@roamnet Google "perfect sound forever tier 3" and you'll get a full interview with Hilary by Andy Schwarz that explains the Tier 3 name and all the rest of the chaos! LOL.
I DJ'd there and boy was it FUN. I'm in splinters still! Glad you're around!
@roamnet yes BB's played there , I think 2x , the 1st being like a Tuesday night to an empty club when they first played NY. UN believeable!! Nothing like it had been heard before!
@bobgure yep that's correct..first BB gig at TR 3 was to almost empty room..that's why next show was with the Stimulators who had a 40 to 50 kids hardcore following...we aRE lucky to be young in that era..I was around 15 in 1977 when I first ran away from home to live on L.E.S. and live the life of a total society's dropout..as you know ..."No Future" and all that... LMAO...ANYWAY... AT LEAST WE WERE THERE FOR THE REVOLUTION!!!
@bobgure they sure did..like crass words in "punk is dead" CBS promotes the Clash-its not for revolution its just for cash..and now crass sells their movies on you tube...yep the establishment did not miss a beat nor did the real estate developers they make lot's of money off retards on NYHC bullshit as well as all the suckers that bought into "east village" bullshit studio apt boxes in an old walk up building on ave C renting for $2500 a month lol...we ARE lucky to be there when it was real...
There have been times I'd say, 'I wish I were a fly on the wall", bur a teenage werewolf...never. It usually had to do with a friend or someone that was talking about making out(sex). The lead singer is too much, he's not only sweaty and sexy but he's ahead of the pack, I didn't hear or no of The Cramps here in Vancouver cause Punk bands don't get the exposure that they should...just like rockabilly rock back in the doowop era wasn't either and now I've found that out, on my own on youtube.lol
This is amazing. I was at this show. It was pure Voodoo. I remember a previous show with Bryan Gregory around 1980. Anyone knows who shot this? I also caught Bow Wow Wow, Suicide here. Both insane shows.
@wzaxx ha! i think i was there as well... i know i saw the gun club and bow wow wow there as well. i grew up in brooklyn and the mudd club was the easiest place to get to...ah those where the daze!!!
Saw the Cramps at the Hacienda in Manchester in 1983. Lux Interior wore a bin liner and half way threw fell into the crowd and had it removed. He just stood there singin bollocko as if nothing had happened - priceless
I know where you can buy the DVD, though I haven't been able to get it yet. I will though, make no mistake. I'll send it in a link. It's cheap too! Get it while you can!
@73mandala Bryan died in 2001 or so. He left the band right around the time of this vid. I do not know the whole story, but supposedly, Bryan took all the band's gear when he split.
Saw them @ 19 saw them again @ 21, saw them again @ 26 - have stayed with me forever. The LUX version of Route 66 is subliminal. Very sad when he left... Hope PI is OK...
Saw them in dallas around 2005 or 2006. One of the best shows I ever saw. Been waiting for them to come back. Can't believe he's gone. This is truly depressing. Thoughts and prayers are with Ivy who must be devastated. Died of heart disease. He must have been real sick for awhile. This is just awful ya'll. He was a true original.
I'm feeling very blue about never being able to experience the Cramps live...
But what is worse-- LUX is gone. There can never be a replacing of him. Soak up the import of that for a minute-- "Lux is gone" means "Lux is NOT THERE"... and that is a very terrible thing.
2 windows, brick wall and that damn pole. Definitely 9:30 club in DC. If it was 1980 I may have been at that show. My first and life changing experience. Mudd club had bigger stages.
I think you and viewebut are right, its not CBGB'S and its not 78, after much research i'm confident its the Mudd Club circa 1981. Its from the japanese punk documentary "Under Underground"
