While I disagree with the way they let Brooke go from the show, I think the Grey's writers are making great strides with the portrayal of gay relationships and how they are no different from heterosexual ones. The current situation between Callie and Arizona--and whether or not they want children--is a universal issue. While their genders may be the same, the difficulties of life and love still apply.
well I'm not gay, I'm not an Erica fan at all (I actually couldn't stand her when she was there, even though she was right about trying to fire Izzie after HeartGate), I love Callie, but IMO

I like this scene and all but that whole leaves dialogue seemed like it was meant to besomething completely different, i feel as though seh dilivered it completely wrong. It could have something so much more, so much more meaningful but she made it into something that felt wrong adn awkward...and it just didnt feel right...

Sometimes, a character is eliminated for creative reasons. ABC has maintained, even strengthened, the gay couple on at least one of its shows (Brothers & Sisters). Therefore, it is illogical to conclude that ABC has eliminated the character simply because she was a lesbian. Maybe they really are being treated like everyone else -- sometimes characters get written off. Just because something happens to a minority, doesn't mean it occurred because of that person's/character's minority status.
don't be completely angry with what i'm about to say, but she didn't really get fired for her being gay on the show. it could be a reason, but there were also other stronger reasons. don't hate me for saying that, because this was my favorite scene on the history of grey's. i may not be gay, but i appreciate true love. and erica really moved me to tears. but everyone, don't be quick to blame abc for being controversial, kay?

I so hoped they were doing something right for once... apparently, this is what I get for my foray into optimism. It won't happen again. And I won't watch Grey's again. To fire an actress like Brooke Smith after a performance like that speaks volumes for the network. To be quite frank, they don't deserve the array of talent they have. I totally agree with you... she had me in tears watching that scene she's fantastic and they really did make a big big mistake coz a lot of people are not happen with the way this whole thing was handled and the interview with patrick dempsey on ellen was SO staged im so annoyed with the way their relationship ended they could have at least givin' her a decent exit.
That was one of the most moving things I have ever seen. I was really looking forward to the direction that Grey's was taking. Finally a show has the decency to write a character that so many people who haven't had a character on that show to relate to, now have someone they can relate to. Brooke Smith is a talented actress and it is a shame that they completely eliminate her from the show. Just when you think the world is coming closer to embracing our differences, it disappoints you again.

I feel dissatisfied at how they left it at the end between these two. And it's bugging me how Callie still hasn't said she's sorry at any point! The girl has no manners! OMG, this was a little painful to watch( i think it was meant to be that way so we'd feel a little like Callie feels), but i loved it and i just wanted to reach out and give her a hug. Erica poured her heart out to Callie and although i didnt like the way Callie just left her there, i'd probably do something similar. In all honesty i wouldn't know what to say or do after that, i wouldn't sleep with Mark Sloan, but i think that was more of an identity thing.
Erica is gay, she saw leaves, and Callie didn't. I think Callie was a little worried about what that meant for her, identity wise - was she gay, straight, bi? She didnt have the same revelation as Erica and it probably confused her a little. She slept with Mark and was disappointed that she like it, so what does that mean? What that means is yeah your bi or whatevs but you got to pick a side because what your doint right now is cheating (thanks Mark) and she chose Erica *jumps for joy*.
Overall im pleased, because i think Callie chosing Erica in the end and saying she wants to be with her shows me that maybe her "Aaaahh!" phase is over and its time for "clingy" ;)...i hope im not jumping the gun. I think Callie wont freak out about the same things as much from now on (i hope) and these two can act more like a couple from now on. I think Callie is finally comfortable with who she is, what she's doing and what she wants to do, so im looking forward to happy hour with these two.
Holy crap, this is so hard to watch. I think I love Erica even more now after that and the look on Callie's face as she realises what Erica is talking about is priceless! But seriously, how many times can they have Callie hurt Erica? Painful.

Sometimes, a character is eliminated for creative reasons. ABC has maintained, even strengthened, the gay couple on at least one of its shows (Brothers & Sisters). Therefore, it is illogical to conclude that ABC has eliminated the character simply because she was a lesbian. Maybe they really are being treated like everyone else -- sometimes characters get written off. Just because something happens to a minority, doesn't mean it occurred because of that person's/character's minority status.

don't be completely angry with what i'm about to say, but she didn't really get fired for her being gay on the show. it could be a reason, but there were also other stronger reasons. don't hate me for saying that, because this was my favorite scene on the history of grey's. i may not be gay, but i appreciate true love. and erica really moved me to tears. but everyone, don't be quick to blame abc for being controversial, kay?

I've had already read it on the journal today. I get like, WHAT? I mean, It's just incredible that in century 21 the management of some channels been so F***ING ST***D for FIRE an actress like her, just for made a GAY PAPER. ANYWAY, the producers, maybe they must think about the possibility of thinking before doing this type of scenes, cause the poor Erica has been fired without an end, just, she goes.

the ABC network said that they weren't firing smith because she's playing a gay character, they said they didn't see her character going anywhere that would make the show more exciting. which i think is just a lame excuse they're putting out there, because i think that the erica and callie relationship is a really great one...plus, it could open the eyes of a lot of ignorant people if the abc network wasn't being stupid. i'm beyond frustrated about this.

Because she signed on to play a gay character. And not just a gay character, a lesbian. It's nothing new and, sadly, not even that unexpected or surprising. I so hoped they were doing something right for once... apparently, this is what I get for my foray into optimism. It won't happen again. And I won't watch Grey's again. They've systematically declawed or written off every strong woman on that program. Enough is enough.

To fire an actress like Brooke Smith after a performance like that speaks volumes for the network. To be quite frank, they don't deserve the array of talent they have. And they most certainly do not deserve Ms Smith. I wish her all the best with her future endeavours and she should know, she has a fan for life.

I totally agree with you... she had me in tears watching that scene she's fantastic and they really did make a big big mistake coz a lot of people are not happen with the way this whole thing was handled and the interview with patrick dempsey on ellen was SO staged im so annoyed with the way their relationship ended they could have at least givin' her a decent exit.

That was one of the most moving things I have ever seen. I was really looking forward to the direction that Grey's was taking. Finally a show has the decency to write a character that so many people who haven't had a character on that show to relate to, now have someone they can relate to. Brooke Smith is a talented actress and it is a shame that they completely eliminate her from the show. Just when you think the world is coming closer to embracing our differences, it disappoints you again.

Ya I argee with you too it was badly written the could have made it way more exciting the rushed their "relationship" and there was no fun in it really...very disappointed they just gave up on it though...it's their loss though she is a fantastic actress and that scene right there in my opinion was the most moving, genuine and stunning piece of acting in the whole series.

I feel dissatisfied at how they left it at the end between these two. And it's bugging me how Callie still hasn't said she's sorry at any point! The girl has no manners! I totally get Callie freaking out and everything but walking away just seems heartless. Even if Callie doesn't care for Erica like Erica does for her, they're still friends right? Don't friends at least comfort each other when they get upset and start to cry??? I wanna give Erica a great big hug!!!

OMG, this was a little painful to watch( i think it was meant to be that way so we'd feel a little like Callie feels), but i loved it and i just wanted to reach out and give her a hug. Erica poured her heart out to Callie and although i didnt like the way Callie just left her there, i'd probably do something similar. In all honesty i wouldn't know what to say or do after that, i wouldn't sleep with Mark Sloan, but i think that was more of an identity thing.

Erica is gay, she saw leaves, and Callie didn't. I think Callie was a little worried about what that meant for her, identity wise - was she gay, straight, bi? She didnt have the same revelation as Erica and it probably confused her a little. She slept with Mark and was disappointed that she like it, so what does that mean? What that means is yeah your bi or whatevs but you got to pick a side because what your doint right now is cheating (thanks Mark) and she chose Erica *jumps for joy*.

Overall im pleased, because i think Callie chosing Erica in the end and saying she wants to be with her shows me that maybe her "Aaaahh!" phase is over and its time for "clingy" ;)...i hope im not jumping the gun. I think Callie wont freak out about the same things as much from now on (i hope) and these two can act more like a couple from now on. I think Callie is finally comfortable with who she is, what she's doing and what she wants to do, so im looking forward to happy hour with these two.
