  • This song is good, the Vietnam war, there wasn't germans, or was?

  • sumtimes i wonder. how do u call a man whos killed. a murderer. and call a soldier. a hero. how do u disrespect an army. when they see things no one ever wants to see. how can u stop a war. when it was your fault. earth is just like this. its wat us humans know. and have dun along time. and it will stay that way forever. but ya know. theres nothing u can do. i just want peace. but war at the same time...

  • "goodbye friend. may the sun shine on your face and the rain sprinkle on your feet, we will meet again"

  • I know not what weapons will win WWIII but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones.

  • @damnmeanredneck epic fail quote.

  • none of you have seen war. iraq is a hell in a firefight. so stop talking

  • Gen. Patton said "It is foolish and wrong to mourn those who died. We should, rather, thank God that such men lived".

  • @oldwarrant4 Hell Ya Even though Patton was a brutal and cruel bastard, but who was a baddass general for world war two that only found victory during his battles.

  • Its sung in whats called scots irish a mix of west coast scots and platation ulster still spoken today mostly in the mid to north east counties of northern ireland but not so much a different language but a dialect of english ..

  • Guy below is a fucking civilian retarded bitch. We don't fight for corporations. We fight for eachother.

    Semper fi.

  • @TheLegendarypickle

You fought in Irak for what ? Against the WMD that never existed ?

Your fellow Americans who died in Irak must hate you......

You're a nasty coward and ignorant piece of shit.......

  • @PrinceSamanti Wow dude. Thats disrespectful man. Ya most of the WMDs didnt exsist but there were few that were still active. So respect the dead soldiers who gave their lives protecting your very rights you have today. and its Iraq not Irak moron.

  • This song is not for the US Army.........

Since 1946, the US Army is serving criminal and false flag wars.....

That song is for the innocent people fighting against illegal military invasion.....

  • RIP my brothers

  • @thomaschattertonman what happend 2 them is they dead

  • it's gaelic, not scottish, I studied it at RMC...just saying

  • @thomaschattertonman It's not gaelic. It's scots english. Gaelic is an entirely different language. This is basically scottish slang. The lyrics to the song (the slang) are pretty much how I speak to my friends and family.

For example "groon" is slang for "ground". It's not gaelic, it's just scots english slang.

  • @blackmamba900 dude ur way off he wrote this song after his grandfather

  • they die for what ?! for some movies in future or sad songs ?!?!?! Every war is bad,but so many ppl dont get that ... sad :(

  • Why do I always end up crying in this video??

  • (;__;)7

a salute to the men who gave there lifes for their country's

  • @xXxmodzrangerxXx nobody gives a rats ass for the country , they get killed for the money

  • God Bless all those who have served or are currently serving in the Military around the world, so much respect for those who fight for their country!

  • It's on the 'We Were Soldiers' soundtrack CD (on Amazon)

  • Anybody know what cd this is on?

  • absolutely beautiful fuck war and ne cunt who thinks its necessary

  • @blackmamba900 Any war is unnecessary, but I've met people from iraq, iran, and afghanastan that immigrated to another country because they spoke against their dictator/government, and if they didn't leave, their whole family would of been killed. And that is why most of wars are fought.

  • D3ltadrive, as ignorant as your comment was I will add that not everyone and their grandma has been around Scottish accents before so STFU

  • Is it really necessary to right subtitles for the fucking accent I mean if you can't figure out what those words mean your an idiot who doesn't have a good enough grasp of the English language that he can use it without thinking about it I mean really

  • @1234alleyboy how does it sound like a drunk English you dick

  • thank you all how have served and will serve to those that came back and to those that didn't thank you we will always remember you thanks to the service men and woman of america

  • what i cant stand is the fat asses in washington sending teens to fight a war that they see something gaining in. they have no concept of anything. that is why i am happy they were pulled out of iraq. the soldiers would no longer be stuck in that hell and no one else has to die. god bless the troops

  • And its just the way Scots who aren't speaking Gaelic talk, its a written form of their accent, the translation or anything written on here as subtitles are for those who are too uncultured to understand a Scotsman speaking English. I've seen American shows put subtitles under Show from England due to the accents, and I'm not talking Manchester or Birmingham, this is West-End London and Sussex accents that are very light, American's are just retarded...

  • The bastards that want to attack Iran should be required to listen to this.

War isn't a fucking game. It's about human lives...

  • Proud to be Scottish aye I am aye I am aye I am and go rangers

  • There are no extraordinary men, just men faced to do extraordinary things

  • THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS, THIS SONG FROM A MOVIE I HAD FORGOTTEN THE NAME OF IS WHAT GOT ME INTERESTED IN THE SOUND OF SCOTTISH FOLK MUSIC, BLOODY HELL I'VE WANTED TO HEAR THIS FOR AGES!

  • If any germans here are listening i got a job for ye, 23 people dislike this son, get a gun and... need i say it? Iwant them to fall by a german gun...

  • will not cry will, i will not cry 0:52 to late

  • this is not gailic WOW omg please people especially u guys in america dont think this is gailic. PLEASE

  • @1234alleyboy Gaelic mate, its spelled Gaelic........and it was written by the band as a tribute to the death of one of the musician's father's death.......

  • @GoldenAxeVox666 yh but its not Gaelic though is it.

  • @GoldenAxeVox666 in fact its like drunk english

  • @1234alleyboy I never said it was, but learn to spell if you are going to comment on a subject.......

  • this isnt actually gailic its ulster scot.

  • Luceo non Uro Meaning (I shine not burn) my Mackenzie family motto

  • Makes me proud to be a Mackenzie

  • FAUGH-A-BALLAGH!

  • its about the english beating the scottish for ever ... now its about for the second time the irish beating the english but not in our life time

  • @tyrekickingwetdreame We Brits will never be beaten by the Irish. ;)

  • @tyrekickingwetdreame "For I fell, tae a Germans gun."

Yeah... Cuz Germans are English now, right?

  • My great grandfather was a seaforth highlander that fought in both of the world wars. He died honorably upon the battfield in Italy. I am very proud of my Scottish-American heritage. Cuidich 'n Righ!

  • @Theclaidheamhmor My great-grandad was a Gordon highlander and fought in the first world war :D

  • I remembered two names that brought me here today, SSG. Rath and CPL. Essary, they both died on this day January 8th 2009 by a suicide bomber, while on patrol in southern Afghanistan. Your memories are not forgotten with those of us who served with you guys in 2-2 Infantry, my regret is that I had not gotten to know you better, rip brothers

  • Makes you feel like crying. :'(

    But in a good way.

  • Gänsehaut...

  • a soldier went to the gates of heaven and met god. the soldier said ' god i my have done some things i am not proud of and some things you wouldn't approve of, so if you send me to hell i won't threat'. God turned to st. peter and said' let him in'. st. peter asked why. God said ' this man just came from hell'.

  • @celtdemon

God does not like soldiers who fought for corporate interest.

  • @celtdemon that is a very nice lie

  • I don't know what's making me cry harder, the song (and how epic it is that all it needed was bagpipes) or the comments.

Thank you so much for posting :)

  • who can dislike this..god rest his soul (too all real soldiers) that ever died.amen

  • i will kill anyone who dislikes this sound track

  • i will kill anyone who dislikes this sound track

  • What a beautiful tribute to the fallen soldiers. We must never never forget them. That itself would be tragic. thank you for posting, it is honorable.

  • Thank you for the post. we owe many...........

  • I close my eyes and imagine me seeing the last days of the civilization as we know it. Finally the end of time has come. consciousness shifted to a whole new level. No cities, businesses, politics, money, media etc. very little people left, no fear, no winners that create the history. Only few individuals acting by the unconditional love still stand tall on the sacred land creating their own destinies and sharing stories about once mighty world population that destroyed itself. A new Atlantis..

  • @serekes17 Atlantis was not a positive utopia, it was the archtype of an aggressive naval power wich had to expand at all costs. And that was their own downfall...

  • @JimmyMadrix Well I know what I've written... As long as there is humanity, there will be the rise and fall of civilizations (This is what history has thaught me) so whenever there's a new beggining, it will most probably lead to a new end which is

the reason why I put 'Atlantis' there -> Most probably it will destroy itself once again somewhere in future... :)

  • @serekes17 Okay Donovan this just so happens to be about war, death and sorrow..not re-birth and Atlantis.

  • @serekes17 But!.each does go hand and hand.

  • the saddest line in the verse is "Nair mair shall a see the sun

For a fell tae a Germans gun".Just think about it.

  • While recuperating in the hospital, McKenzie was asked what it was like to kill "the Hun" (as the Germans were called then). He replied, "what a waste of a fine body of men".

  • Comment removed

  • My Scottish clan name

    Crosby clan

    Motto:we will rise again

Rest in peace the dead of my family

  • hundreds of history-lessons did nothing but tell how wars came and went and noone learned.............one film showed how war looks like in reality and changed my mind. so why don´t schools play "wer were soldiers" or other films like that in school? The hardest part of life keeps the life

  • so sad, such a meloncholy sonund

  • I first heard this song while I was taking a 20th Century Wars class...I love it so much.

  • damn you people sure do love to speak your minds openly dont you... i bet you wouldnt say half the things you say to eachother's faces...

  • A real tear jerker if yer a true Scotsman. Would love to download this tune for my faither, does anyone have a link??? wud be much apprectiated.

  • @TheSilentNinjaSniper download the freeware called "dvd video soft". It can convert youtube links into mp3 files.

  • @TheSilentNinjaSniper w w w .listentoyoutube .c

  • @TheSilentNinjaSniper I can send it to you if you want. Send me a private message and I'll give you the details.

  • Hey guess what! :D None of this even fucking matters! :D

So listen to the music and shut the fuck up will ya? :D

  • Sgt. MacKenzie you dont help out at cadets do you

  • congratulations to who have courage

  • This song is scottish and is about a Scottish solider who gave his life for his mate.

  • I'm American and I must say does it really matter where the hell you from? It's a tribute to fallen soldiers and lets leave it at that huh?

  • @vzer32xj Your a real stupid person you know that? You tell us what nationality you are then you start bitching about how it doesn't matter where anyone is from.. bloody idiot. You don't even know what you are talking about. I think it does matter where a person is from so then you can represent your country with pride and dignity.

  • @wiscodyne Well, You fuckhole, at the end of the day it's a tribute. Quit arguing over youtube in long paragraphs jackoff. Make your own tribute to whatever country you represent it's just that simply you fuckface.

  • @vzer32xj tha bloke who write this song write it after his wife died or cancer

  • did you guys know the sarge died defending a hurt buddy in the trenches

  • This song makes me think of all the men and women and children who have died as a result of war "Lest we forget"

  • Why are you talking about german things when this video is about the american lives lost in this cold war?

  • @TheVideotribe Because the song is a lament for a Scottish soldier killed by a German soldier in the First World War, but a lot of people seem to have mistaken it for the Second World War.

  • @TheVideotribe You fucking prick. Americans are not the only people on the planet asshole. Many people have died bravely, not just Americans. This is a tribute to them. Also this son has nothing to do with the cold war. Its about all conflicts. You are a fucking dick.

  • @TheVideotribe you are retarded and the reason why foreigners think americans are stupid.

  • @TheVideotribe

"For I fell to a Germans gun", this song is about WWI and how many soldiers on the battlefield died to the German Empire.

  • @TheVideotribe wtf this has to be the thickest comment i've come across on youtube . Its got nothing to do with the cold war or america for that matter

  • @TheVideotribe This video isn't about Americans nor is the artist of this song American.

  • That is not Scottish. That is English with a thick accent. True Scottish is more like Gealic than anything like English. All those lyrics are is what is sounds like spelled out using the English alphabet.

  • @SilentJT3 Many people find the dialect, which is classified as Scottish English, to be akin to a completely different language; it's not surprising the original poster included the lyrics without the dialect. And 'True Scottish' is not 'like' Gaelic, it IS Gaelic.

Not having a go at you, just clarifying the point.

  • Scottish blood flows faster with bagpipes

  • RIP

  • Thank you for this

  • this song was played at the funeral for my buddy who was blown up by a IED in afghanastan

  • Joseph MacKenzie wrote the haunting lament after the death of his wife, Christine, and in memory of his great-grandfather, Charles Stuart MacKenzie, a sergeant in the Seaforth Highlanders, who along with hundreds of his brothers-in-arms from the Elgin-Rothes area in Moray, Scotland went to fight in the Great War. Sergeant MacKenzie was bayoneted to death at the age of 35, while defending one of his badly injured fellow soldiers in the hand-to-hand fighting of the trenches.

  • nasty english ...

  • this music is selected for the movie by Mel Gibson, antisemitic , rightfully so , but islam-ophobic too .say no to religion,. join The Zeitgeist Movement , occupy wall street.

  • The ignorance in most of your posts is comical.

    1. Song is written about WW1 and has nothing to do with the 3rd Reich.

    2. Avg Germans under the third reichs power had nothing to do with the war crimes.

  • Colonel Jay Stephen Russell died on the morning of October 28, 2011 after fighting cancer for over 4 years. RIP uncle steve.

  • @MHSRULES12 wow a colonel. you rarely hear someone that high of a rank you usually hear private-gunnary sergeants dying in battle. let him R.I.P.

  • this is probably one of the best songs in the world

  • A good friend of me died at 07.12.2009

This song was played at his funeral...

Stop ur senseless discussions and remember the dead...

    And yes, i´m german....

  • @Badewannentoaster

    Well said sir. R.I.P.

  • @Badewannentoaster

    I'm french

    Be proud to be German

    Stolzes Land...

    Einige Americans sind ganz verruckt...

    Mit freundliche Grüsse aus Frankreich

  • @alex669953 nous ne sommes pas tous les trous d'âne :}

  • @Badewannentoaster god bless.xx

  • wtf? cant be bothered looking over previous posts, this is a song written by a fallen scotsman for scots..............

  • @awryhighlander aye fookin right mate

  • @lilskates3 in case you didnt know, when hitler came into power in 1933 only 51% percent of the country voted for him. yes there were nazi supports however a large number of the population did not approve of hitler and his party. When the germans started to rally the jews and sent them to camp, even nazi party members were not willing to do such things but given the situation they were forced in threat of being shot by their own party. Most germanys did not want war, they were simply dragged in.

  • The British stood there ground. This is the Only credits ill ever give to them was in WWI

  • So FREAKING SAD SONG ;(

  • What a sad but inspiring music.....this song made me cry

  • so sad

  • This is great inspiration

  • tbh you dont need the english translation:L

  • I dont' know why everybody brings up the nazi's because this was written in remembrance of a soldier who fell in World War I, long before Hitler and his party took over Germany.

  • this is a scottish song, but it isnt only about the scots in the war, its all those who fought against the nazi regime. in the east and west. american, russian, british or canadian, lest we forget!

  • @Outdoorsman631 It's actually about the first world war!

  • im in the army on my mates profile and hes joining soon i apreciate thisn sooooooo much]

  • thanks i never would have known the lyrics this song makes me sad :(

  • Great song. Does anybody know what war that came out of? W.W.1? W.W.2?

  • @jqfuzzyface21 I believe it was World War 2 because of Hitler attacking Poland

  • @jqfuzzyface21 It was written by Clann an Drumma member Joseph MacKenzie in memory of his great-grandfather Sgt Charles Stuart MacKenzie, who was killed fighting the Central Powers in World War 1.

  • if you think about (note i am netural in the matter) it the german army was just the normal army. it was the ss were the murders

  • @celtdemon not true

  • Which aircraft carrier is that at 2:32-2:45?

  • i always understood the words. best part of the movie

  • Those who even appeared NOT to be extremely enthusiastic about HITLER were killed. That is why many "appeared to support " the movement. Kill one, a thousand will obey you ... that's the philosophy. The Germany of Today is NOT the Germany of WWII.

G.Knox, former Sgt. 10th Special Forces Group (Green Beret)

  • uh...whats the translation for???????

  • Thanks great song !!!!!!!!

  • one comment its not scottish translated to enlish its not even anceint scottish or jacobite its a gaelic hereos song learn plz

  • And when he reaches the gates to saint peter he will tell one more soldier reporting sir i have served my time in hell

  • Sgt MacKenzie died in WW1. No Nazis yet.

  • Germany suffered under a dictator. Unfair to still criticize them for things they did not decide. From South Africa

  • what is the name of this song?

  • Lest we forget

  • You can't say Germans were the bad guys. You know, this song is about WW1. Nazis = ONLY WW2

  • Nazi Germany**

  • It's funny how people look at Germany as horrible people but there's been plenty of Empires that have done much evil to it's people or to other peoples. Read up on the Soviet Union and Stalin you'll find evil there and we allied with them. Patton wanted to go whip them of the face of the earth.

  • Great song.

  • caberfeidh

  • Thaks for posting reminds me of my dad served in vietnam...took 3 bullets...bless all the soilders who lost their lives....including my uncle.. thanks to all the soilders who serve in iraq!! :') im glad to be in this country.

  • @Motocrossismyl1fe my father also served in vietnam he died last december i remember and cherish his memory :)

  • @Balian521 i thanks your father sorry you lost him :( i love you (in a brotherly way)

  • "?cuimhneamh i ngach ceann dár deartháireacha tar éis titim i arm" in galic it means remember all of are fallen brothers in arms. God bless all of the soldiers out in Iraq and Afganistan

  • @goddamnfaggots Please do not confuse Germany with Nazi Germany. Those are, and were, two separate groups of people.

  • @Trentacus

We know that now Germany isnt nazi, but its the same nation. I am sorry, you must live with it. I can forgive you I WW, but two wars? I know, i was 70 years ago, but many people still remember this. Greetings from Poland :)

  • @Trentacus how many movies have you seen where the german guy is the good guy?

they are like the boogeymen of hollywood now

  • @goddamnfaggots No side is the good side in any War...

  • @lilskates3 Many Germans did support Hitler, but no one outside of leaders in the Nazi party, SS, and few soldiers knew of the extreme atrocities of what is now considered the legacy of the Nazi movement; e.g. genocide, eugenics, and mass murder. Besides, many who did "fully support" did so out of fear.

  • @Trentacus u should just remove the comments...that would make all this so much simpler :)

  • @lolbug100 I won't do that because that is just censoring people, which I don't consider. Even if I disagree; it is important to let people have their free and open expressions.

However, it gets hidden if enough people negatively vote for it... which is good enough.

  • @Trentacus i know what u mean but when i go into a video 9/10 times people are just trolling each other or making ignirant comments (no offense)

  • @Trentacus fear is not an explenation at all... You are human or not.

  • @DarthSuon When those who didn't faced prison, or until Dec 7, 1941 when Nacht und Nebel decree was put in effect directing German authorities in western European occupation areas to eliminate those individuals "endangering German security." They were to be disposed of in a discreet manner, to "disappear" into the night and fog so that even their relatives would never know what happened to them. So it is completely reasonable that many did out of fear for their life and the lives of their family

  • @Trentacus First: sorry for my english, it's not so perfect as Yours and I could have problem to explain what I mean... I understand that citizens of Nazi Germany were scared as shit because of secret police, SS, etc... But please take a look from different side: There were milions of Them! And only few tried to remove Hitler (like Stauffenberg) They lived for years quite comfortable under goverment of Hitler and His supporters. They didn't care about rest.

  • @Trentacus and one more thing: since few years I see that history is trying to clean Germans... Now we are facing in news with terms as: "Polish concentration camp" where that was NAZI GERMAN CONCENTRATION CAMP PLACED IN POLAND, not Polish... Your posts are the same for me as those misunderstanding I ment up. You're cleaning Germans for Their own history.

  • @Trentacus Don't dilute yourself. Don't pretend that German's didn't notice 15 million Jews, Catholics, Gypsies, and others just disappear. I'm not saying that all German's are guilty because they are German. I'm just saying that just because they aren't Nazi's doesn't mean they're not guilty.

  • @Jahiliyya But they didnt know where they went. Thats the main thing.

  • @Trentacus Remind me why your talking about hitler this film is about vietnam
