WOW that Stallion is grate. we have a little stallion in traning now he's 18 mouths old. tell me if im rong but arent stallions really mean and hard to controul if they are not traned right. because when i was little my mom would take me to the race trake in the back and 4-7 people for one stallion
The world has countless creatures, from the very tiny to the great whales... but from a purely aesthetic stand point alone, HORSES & TIGERS must surely rank at the very top. Nothing beats the majesty of a stallion prancing slowly, with both tail & head raised high, saying, "Look at me." And the penetrating gaze of a 500 pound tiger, with a perfect, giant head full of long sideburn-hair, with shiny yellow, white, & black stripes flowing everywhich way... surely define both majesty & beauty.
I like the idea of having a more mature horse be around. Helps the colt to feel reassured and learn much faster.
Just one qn, around 0:50 when your stallion was 'demonstrating' , why were his ears sticking out more to the side rather than perked up and pointing in front ( as most horses do when paying attention)? Help me understand this behaviour as every horse is different ...!
I couldn't help but noticing.. Is it just me or does the colt have a minor Umbilical Hernia? I've seen your other videos and it's obviously nothing threatening as he seems to be a very happy and healthy colt, but I was just curious.
Very nice video to watch! I do similar things with my horses, most of the time with the whole herd in the arena. the result is that we have real fun - the horses and I. I agree that it is sometimes a bit challenging to work stallions in freedom, but fortunately I can keep them living on the pastures all year long, that makes them quite easy to handle.
That's a wonderful stallion. I've never seen a horse so trusting of an object like that. And his trust in you just seems endless. You and whoever involved have done a terrific job with his training!
I did the exact same thing with my filly except it was my gelding that led the way, they seem to be so much more confident to take a look if they see someone else has already done it and the tarp didn't eat them lol
You need to take a look at Bravos little brother :) He is only ten days old and one of the dogs had dragged in some plastic into the garden. When we came out he had already started the training ;) He's amasingly tough!
Search for the video: "Andalusian foal Amoroso is going tough "
lots of time brushing and loving on this colt Your horses trust you that is why this works. If you get a horse to trust you they wont be scared of anything. Good for you.
Awh wow!! Thats amazing!! It's amazing to see how much the stallion trusts you and love you :) He's following you and copying you. Thats amazing and beautiful to see :)
@lilvixion Thank you for those kind words. The stallion is a great horse and a great dad, too! I wish more people had the opportunity to let the stallions be involved with their offspring, it's great for all parties; stallion, foal, mare and not the least the human :)
finally someone saying they have their own methods--- and it works!!! You have wonderful animals...best of luck in the future, love to see how this little guy grows up!
Glad to see there are people who still train horses about everyday things. I got a mare (12 yo) and was scared of everything... tarps, cars, trailer ramps, buckets. And we lived where there are a lot of storms and strong wind near a caravan park... and we always had tarps and stuff in her paddock, she'd be in a corner of the paddock... it was funny at times actually... finally got her used to them
A few words of warning: I wouldn't recommend everyone to let the stallions breed the way mine does. The stallion (and the mare, too!) should be certified for breeding: not every horse is suitable. In order for him to live with his familiy like mine does, he needs to be socialized from a young age. Stallions aren't "bad", but they need a good social upbringing if they are to act naturally; don't just let them loose with other horses and expect everything to work out by instinct.
This is SO beautiful to see!! Your horses are amazing! I hope you still own them and their doing well! I only wish you were in my backyard so I could see them in action!
ok ppl, we use treats to help teach our dogs, why not our horses? Would you go out of your way to work for someone for NOTHING? It's called "incentive". And as for those "tricky situations", when you call on your horse, he WILL rise to the occasion. In my dicipline it happens alot, and mine never lets me down. Treats used judiciously are a great tool.
it's always better to have another horse to show the one your training it's nothing to worry about, it won't hurt you. And treats are just helping him
it's not bribing, it's like positive reinforcement. the foal showed a little interest and sniffed the tarp, which is what you want so you give it a treat ( the treat says well done so does kind words) but the foal will figure out that if i sniffs/ stands on the tarp he will get a treat but if he doesnt do those things he doesnt get a treat.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ye but what if u r in a tricky situation and you dont hav treats to bribe him? what then? the horse should think 'well if my herd leader (you) is calm and not bothered then i have nothing to worry about' maybe thas why you use the grey horse because HE is the herd leader? everyone has different training methods and i am interested in what other ppl do and see which bits i like, this not being one, everyone is different!
Bravo to you, that looks fabulous, how the stallion was standing there looking at the foal and thinking "Come on matey, its all ok, its only a bit of plastic & mums here with treats!!" lol bless

gosh your stallion is a sweet fella, did you train him yourself? if you did, what meathod? ct, parelli, (i cant imagine him being trained traditionally with a temperament like that, but you never know...) bravos sure to be wonderful just like his dad!
Fabuloso has a wonderful temperament, and I train him with my own methods, I am a professional trainer. I do NOT use parellis methods, but I don't think anyone would consider me traditional either. Clicker training is a big part of how I work with horses. However I believe his gentle behavior is mostly due to him living with his family and being allowed to be a horse, and not the training. The mares are much better trainers than me;)
lol, i agree, most people segregate their stallions from their "herd" (not quite as big as in the wild! lol) and expect them to behave well! i really enjoy CT, but havent had a chance to work with horses yet with it, it seems one of the best meathods! anyway, congratulations on your beautiful horses!
