  • Isn't this going to be the song they use in the new Macaulay Culkin movie? I think the movie is called "Incorruptible." I'm almost positive this is the song -- as a matter, I am positive because the producers wanted it to be sung my a contemporary singer but the director insisted that The Critters' version was the one they would use. They haven't even started filming so maybe it's different now.

  • @ColumbiaPerna Looked up Culkin on IMDB. It says his new movie is in pre-production under the title "Service Man". Where did you read that this song will be used in it? I used to be in a band which did shows with the Critters and I would be real interested if this song (which is, incidentally, great!) is used in a movie. BTW, Don Ciccone (no relation to the other famous Ciccone) who wrote and sings lead on this song is today in a band called The Hitmen, together with Jimmy Ryan, another Critter.

  • The Critters is a fantastic band and they're still performing. You can find them on Facebook.

  • I notice his last name is Ciccone ... same as Madonna's. You don't suppose.....??

  • I heard this today on "the True Oldies Channel" and ran right to YouTube - THANK YOU!!! I have the 45 someplace, but no turntable anymore!! What a wonderful, romantic song - I feel 15 again!! Younger Girl is my other favorite of their's

  • You're welcome, TheChoralChick-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • i was 10 years old when this song came out, yet i still remember every lyrics...too bad they don't make this kind of music anymore...

  • It's interesting I never paid much attention to this song when it came out, but when I saw this posted I listened and found myself crying after lost youth... It is now my most favorite of that time period..something about the harmonies is very haunting ....

  • @beachray2000

you said it all for me beachray 2000, exactly how I feel.

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • FANTASTIC!

  • The song was popular the year I graduated High School. Little did I know how it was to reflect my life

  • Donny Bisogni was a member of this group. He sadly died (no pun intended!) on Sunday in New Jersey. He was also a member of the group The Excellents. They sang Coney Island Baby. Another popular song of his was The Younger Girl.

  • cippy2k,

Because you posted here the comment to insult otaku, you deleted all your comments and also blocked your account.

    60otaku3

  • WOW, I havn't herd this song in years. This one is a particular favorite of mine since I associate it with my first summer romance at the tender age of 15. Man that was some girl, tender song for a tender girl, what memories you just evoked in me, thanks a bunch for posting it.

  • You're welcome, Reggie1010101-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • I ran across a gem of a song from the mid 60's. I had forgotten all about it until I played it, but now recall it as one of my all time favorites.

The chord transistions and harmony are haunting and mesmerizing, and the bass line is simple but captivating. Just go to you tube and search the song title "Mr. Dyingly Sad" by a group called the Critters.

  • So, so nice.

  • Arigato, 60otaku3, for posting this beautiful song.

  • Dou itashimashite (You're welcome), therealjoebloggs-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • who sang the falsetto backup parts??

  • @dowahditty69 Don Ciccone and Jimmy Ryan.

  • SUBLIME ¡ tenia 15 años cuando la escuche por primera vez en radio capital y hoy tengo 59 y como la primera vez me sigue MOVIENDO ¡

  • Yes, a wonderful tune, bringing me back the great 60s. A very underrated golden oldie for sure.

  • Have'nt heard this tune in years , keep up the good stuff

  • Thank you TheRabbit1943-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • Gorgeous!

  • Great song, reminds me of "Call Me" by Chris Montez from 1966.

  • You have no idea how talented these guys were. They were not some make-believe artists created by a studio. They were excellent muscians who were masters at their instruments and who could sing and write great songs. I saw them several times when they used to play at or around Villanova (I think Bob, Jimmy and Don were students there). They would just knock you out with their talent. If it wasn't for the Vietnam War (Don was drafted) the Critters would be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • "...unlock all doors, I'm yours..." Love this song. Thank you for sharing it.

  • You're welcome, jeepgrandcher-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @drumsyeah on the b-side that was younger girl also cover by the critters

  • lahaina 1965-69, hanging out at SunsetFreeze, across from the Banyan Tree. the teens from Lahainaluna High School with the radios playing these beautiful love songs...awesome memeories, the Critters love song harmonies oh yeah

  • Warm Summer Nights in 1966, This song bring's back alot of memories. Thanks.

  • You're welcome, wolfmantip-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • Din't John Sebastin do a cover opf this tune?

  • Unfortunately I do not know that version...

However, I know this group has covered John Sebastian's song "Younger Girl".

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @60otaku3 I remember I had the 45 of the Critters and you jogged my memory. It was younger girl I was thinking about. On my 45 Mr. Diengly side was side B. That song Younger Girl always confused me because the Critters singer sounded exactly like John Sebastin. I always wondered if he didn't do the vocals as the Critters 45 sounded so much like the John Sebastin. I was about 10 at the time and I remember going to the Corondelet(remember this store?) and buying this 45. LP's $3.49, lol.

  • @cooltooth112 The Lovin Spoonful did a song called Full Measure...it is a bit similar to this tune.....Maybe thats the one you remember...??

  • @drumsyeah Seems as if I had the 45 of Full Measure and it was the B-Side of a Lovin' Spoonful hit.

  • This is Real Music, Golden Music!

  • Very alluring and seductive, and I loved her second of this song. Ah, to be in love like that . . .

  • Yet another awesome ultra-obscure golden oldie from Summer '66, ignored by golden oldies format radio consultants but posted on YouTube! God bless uTube!

  • Don Ciccone, writer and singer of this song did his time in Nam.

  • One of my all time favorites.

  • Great song! I love this song. Thanks for posting it. Also...check out

The Visit by The Cyrkle and also I Wish You Could Be Here by the Cyrkle. You'll love those songs, too!!!

  • You're welcome, TheBloozboy-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • @TheBloozboy I thought I was the only one whi knew and liked the Cyrkle song "I wish you Could Be here" great choice and beautiful song.

  • Music doesn't get any better than this.

  • They are awesome!!! thanks for share

  • You're welcome, TalmaLennon-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • I dont get how a so such a nice song and better the so many ,we dont get to hear in the radio ever.

  • ANTOLOGIA DE COLLECCION.

  • I've been listening to pop music for over 50 years, and this song released right before my junior year in high school is about the most beautiful I've ever heard --- I just can't stop listening to it. Everything about this song -- lead, lyrics, melody, bass line, background vocals, etc., are just *stunning*.

  • this song is so romantic

  • This one is on my Favorites 60otaku3 -- you have very good taste in music (since it seems to be MY taste also!). I got an iPod for Christmas, can I download this to it? Someone from work is going to help me as I'm ignorant on how to do it, but I plan on putting the one-hits from my albums on it, too. Might be too challenging for this Boomer babe, but I'm going to try!

  • Thank you, azjans-san!!

About a way to download music, please try to read an operating manual of the iPod well.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @azjans this is quite easy to get it to your ipod simply DL this with free youtube mp3 converter and once downloaded to your HD as mp3, itunes will convert it automatically for your ipod and just synch it.

  • BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, LOVE THEM

  • This is one of the greatest pop songs ever. Those lyrics!!

  • One of the best from the 60s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the Most Beautiful Songs to come out of 1966, Summer of that year. I remember it well. Thanks Again.

  • You're welcome, wolfmantip-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)v

  • Where was that picture taken with the rocks? I always wondered.

  • My Dad loved this, he loved songs that harmonized. I miss you Dad, I wish you could hear this. This is for you, I love you and miss you. I am sad...I know I will see you again.

  • ONE OF THE GREAT SONGS, IT SENDS ME BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL, MY BUDDIES, THE GIRLS...SO MUCH MEMORIES; NOTHING LIKE THE 60'S...

DOES ANYONE WOULD KNOW IF THIS SONG CAN BE DOWNLOUD TO MY COMPUTER? please advise...

  • This song is freakinly fantastic. And so is "Younger Girl" (written by John Sebastian (of the Lovin' Spoonful) Take note all ya "younger generation" of what is not missing in this song and is missing in most songs of the last 15 years .. well everything; I don't have the time to tell.

  • Give me summer in high school, my boyfriend, a farmers lane to park the muscle car, and this song!!!!

  • I think this is one of the most underrated and beautiful love songs. If it hadn't been pretty much a one-hit wonder, it would have been a classic, right up there with anything by the Carpenters or Elvis or the Beatles, which is where this song belongs.

  • No debate, could be wrong, believe at least one of the Critters was from Long Island or elsewhere. Check other posts of this tune and other hits to verify my "Critters" dance/concert attendance credentials back in the "Children And Flowers" , "Younger Girl" and "Don't Let The Rain Fall Down On Me" days...may well have all been from NJ...not sure... don't you just love Mr. Don's bass styling?...ref: "Come Back When You Grow Up Girl" (Bobby Vee)...Critters forever!...real Jersey Shore!Tunesmith

  • Love this song - don't know why it only went to #17. Thank you.

  • You're welcome, lasinlo-san!!

  • What a great oldie, have not heard this in years.

  • @2528doo I agree. To hear this and other 'lost oldies' on the airwaves nowadays, one probably has to subscribe to a satellite music service such as Sirius since mainstream FM oldies stations hardly ever touch 'lost oldies' such as this gem...Thank you YouTubers for uploading this and other 'lost oldies/classics'!

  • Their music was my time.. a pleasure to listen to any time of the day..would make you stop, sing with the song or simply sit back, relax savor the melody and lyrics.. well being young that time only meant simple pleasures that meant a lot already.

  • One of the best ever, period!!

  • One of the prettiest song ever. Just music to soothe the ears.

  • One of my all-time favorite songs. Way ahead of its time.

  • Were they from England?

  • No, all of them are from New Jersey.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • Otaku, you have very good taste in music.

  • Thank you so much, ziggster59-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^o^)b

  • Memories of them at Shades in Westfield.....and at the Shackamaxon Country Club...

  • Just so happen to click on this song. I had heard this on the oldies & thought this was by Lou Christie. Thank you for posting this one!

  • You're welcome, emerybayblues-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @emerybayblues Lou Christie did record a cover of Mr. Dieingly Sad on his 1999 cd, "Pledging My Love". The tune was written by Critters member Don Ciccone while a university student at Villanova. Later on, he became a member of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons.

  • I say, that this song was used for a shampoo commercial way back then..it may have been "prell" ..and the girl used for the shampoo may have been one of Charlie Angels gals..can someone tell me if I am right!

  • Very beautiful song.

  • Remembering when this song hit the charts in late August, 1966, this Baby Boomer suggests that the bass work in this wonderful song is *stunning*...

  • Awesome song...the kind that gets in your head and stays there. I can hear this one over and over.

  • Geez, haven't heard this since 66, nice revisit.

  • This is my absolutely favorite all time song. Beautiful melody, can't get it out of my head and never want to. :)

  • I can hear this song all day.

    great song, will last forever.

  • Love this Love this .....SO LOOOOOVE THIS ! takes me back to 1966 when The Beatles were still touring, -did ANY of us ever THINK they'd stop?-Beach Boys were having Fun, Fun, Fun and Chicago was 7 or 8 months away from meeting in Walt's apt. and w/a handshake, creating a second dynasty in American Music. This was the last Summer before all H*ll broke loose(!) Thanks SO MUCH for this post!

  • I love this song. This song is one of my hall of famers.

  • It doesn't get much better than this!

  • brings back memory of my first love.

  • Medic, you to my man....welcome back

  • Sadly, some of this band went off to Vietnam, as did I.....but we made it back...Amen

  • @lnefouse Welcome home, bro

  • Amen..

  • @lnefouse Vietnam ruined our generation. Those greedy old bastards in power raided the colleges, farms and factories and sent our best, brightest, bravest and strongest to be destroyed and haunted.

  • @lnefouse Amen, brother. tell me, did the Critters get drafted or did they enlist?

Maybe it made no difference back then. I was seven, anyway...

  • @lnefouse I didn't know that, but it's not quite clear: did they not come home? God bless you for your Vietnam service.

  • @lnefouse Glad to hear it...

  • @lnefouse God, Vietnam was terrible wasn't it, I think that the wars are like black holes arround us. I am Mexican I don't know how is a war, but I think it's so sad.

  • Musician's pop music?? One can trace the structures and chord patterns along with the track. And when did a pop song last feature a key change?? The style only flourished for a brief period. Probably can't ever come back - like trad jazz etc.

  • @martinjp1958 I often wonder such things. Or a guitar accompanying a vocal like Rainy Night In Georgia. PS: Has anyone else felt the lead singer sounds SO much like Johnny Mathis. Quick vibrato and all?

  • i just love this song brings back so many memories

  • An easy 5 stars! Thank you 60otaku3 for posting.

Some will never get it, I sense you will.

    Beautiful music.

  • You're welcome, meattyBeaty-san!!

  • This is a great song bringing back many happy memories spent in the summer on the beach during my college years. ...5*
