I always wanted to know the reactor layout on one of these subs, and a relative who was a reactor officer finally sketched it out for me, highly illegal of course, but extremely interesting. So much redundancy, the engineering is incredible.
@kobenbawest He's the real deal. On klan patrol. The crew lives on ration of fried chicken and watermelon. Very gangster. To bad he cant use the same head and drink fom the same scuttlebut when hes not at sea.
I helped build this bad boy, initial manning crew, etc...and was the original sound silencing petty officer during construction. The shipyard HATED me...I had them replace anything that failed rather than simply fix it. :)
@cybrsage I too was on the initial manning crew, taking her on her first dive manning station at the Torpedo Tube Flooding hull valve in the Torp. Room. I still remember it! It was a pleasure to serve on that boat under TMCS and probably TMCM (SS) Villareal Ret.. Took the boat on its first Shellback ceremony, and Order of the Ditch to San Diego. TM2(SS). The Navy is the best, hands down...never will forget it!
@chopped50ford but TM2(SS) you left out the TM1(SS) that was between you and taco {TMCS(SS)} and stayed on the boat untill we were in san diego and you guys still had to call on shore duty to find out whare stuff was stored in the room
Lol I was on SSN 762 in the late 90's and I remember playing war games with surface ships. We had to bang on the hull at certain times so they could keep track of us. I think that says something.
Have you ever heard of the story that happened in the eighties called the single ping story. About 30 Russian subs that were out on patrol got a single US ping at the same exact time. The US navy with that ping just said we know where you are and you can not find us. It may have been a big part in ending the cold war. Do you know if this is true.
No. Even Tom Clancy mentions the story. Plus this happened over 25 years ago. When its old news anyone can talk about it. I just have not seen anything online.
No, this is not true. Th US would not give away its confidential information to the other side. The russians would just further improve their countermeasures.
asvab is the standard for each rate. nuclear guys, any type of intelligence or radio jobs, submarine rates, or really any rate that requires a secret clearance or above is one that requires a high asvab. Thats why most sh*tbags in the navy are labor rates, i.e. shiphand.
yes you have to. Major part of the ASVAB Test is Math and Reading. that is what really counts for the jobs you fall in. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY NAVY RECRUITER. THEY BULLSHIT YOU!
I did my second-class NROTC cruise on board this sub. Spent two weeks on board and loved every minute of it. Amongst other cool stuff I got qualified as a sonar watchstander. My eternal thanks go to CO Scott Swehla, XO Chris Cavanaugh, COB Burt Kuntz and the rest of the crew during their 2006 WESTPAC.
im leaving for the navy in march 4, 2009 and i be in this sub after sub and a school. i cant wait. my dad was in this sub. los angeles, darter and indinapolis. fist class torpeoman (the Head Guy of it)
Watch and learn you Mujiks !!!!!... this could sink the whole russian navy (lol...)... except of course those ships that would sink themselves like the Kursk :o
and I am sure by terrorists you mean the innocent palestenian civilians that have been forced from their lands and confined to areas that lack the basic human neccesities.
if by "forced from their land", you mean "invade another nation with the intention of anhilliating them but losing their war of aggression and therefor are now suffering the consequences of their hatred", then I agree.
the soundtrack is from the movie Crimson Tide, great movie

Great video but have to say unsat for no Sonar clips during Battle Stations and using shots of a boomer painting in a couple scenes.

was the a black usn commander in charge of that sub? this has to be a hollywood reproduction.
kobenbawest 1 year ago
Just because there's a black usn commander doesn't mean this was a hollywood production.

thats really cool XD shows how silent the los angeles attack subs are....
but with the navys new virginia class, even banging on the hull wont work lmao
podo42 2 years ago
Yes it does!
Since most of the tracking we did was passive and at ranges outside your weapons systems range, it says you are suffering from sensor deprivation.
