Amazing how many corvette crash videos there are. Must be a prerequisite to buying that you are a hack driver. Should have bought a miata and learned to drive first.
It's kind of cool how your first reaction would be to brake when you spin out of control, but shouldn't you instead counter steer and gas it? So you correct yourself? (Never got in a spin, but I think that's the right thing to do.)
Listen to the sound of cheap plastic crushing, beautiful.. and who the hell decided to make an autocross track in a parking lot with a huge sidewalk in the middle??
big engine, poor handling, it goes for every American car i guess, and the drivers? big wallet little brain, also any gramma can get a drivers license in this country! i've seen countless corvettes crashing on youtube, it just keep coming!
ps:i'm not dissing tho, i have much respect for any car that can perform, and vettes are one of my favs
The back of the Corvett loves to get sideways with out your permission ending in this. Its naturally unstable and blame goes to GM. the diver was just fin and then... crunch.
Is that all you do? Go around on YouTube and try to talk shit to people in the comments? I don't really care what you think so you are just wasting everyone's time bitching about how you feel. Have a nice day.
@Bmants : No nigga, thats not all I do, I fuck let your mother suck my dick at nights. Go suck yourself. Bitch! I was not talking to everyone bitch, just you homo.
Looks like what happens to automatic corvettes. They are really hard to recover from even small slides. Plus it sounds like he's running to much psi in those tires.
this dude may have a good reason of crashing on cold STREET tires and my heart goes out to him...but there's a trend here and it has nothing to do with cold tires...... i blame the very sketchy differential and transverse leaf springs....i mean corvette did all they could on making a IRS for this car ..but the suspension voids all the geometry tying it all together instead of independence most sport cars deliver...but thats my opinion
@SpeedDemonS7 The suspension on a Vette is independent. The transverse leaf spring doesn't communicate any force from one side to the other. This guy just didn't know how to handle a turn going 30 mph.
@SpeedDemonS7 Transverse leaf springs did not contribute to this accident at all. The leaf springs could only have provided the level control in such a situation to plant the power down. There are terrific merits to such a design but it gets a bad rap from non-engineers like Jeremy Clarkson.
In this case, it is ONE HUNDRED percent the driver's fault. Why did you brake AND steer at the same time? With Stabilitrak his incompetent skill levels would've been corrected for.
@pcfxer i agree.. this situation calls for driver error no doubt....im just not impressed after owning one...just nothing but problems ..im still sour over it
@SpeedDemonS7 Welllll, since you've owned one you must be very knowledgeable of all the cons of the transverse leaf spring setup. A porsche can handle just as well without knocking your vertebrae out of place.
GUTTED, although not surprising. The amount of vetts on youtube losing control is unreal. Maybe a very fast car but you need extreme skill to tame this beast at full throtle
@wildenboy If you look closely, he kicks the brake pedal as he is turning in. Whilst of course, still spinning the rear tires from flooring it. Spinning rear tires+lift off over steer+steering at the same time as kicking the brake pedal = this.
dang, that sucks. we had a new corvette c6 do the same at our auto-x. bad part... it was his wifes car he took to autox to see what it can do witout asking her...... it actually jumped the curb at our course. same thing, slalom to finsh, but was too hot on the exit.
I mean, who the hell builds curbs like that? The car could easily roll, and I don't think that this is really more save for the pedestrians nor for the car and driver.
Sad to see a Corvette take a hit like that when the driver's not on the street acting like a bonehead. Insurance usually says they won't cover accidents on racetracks. Hopefully this isn't considered a "racetrack" and they covered it.
this was not the car's fault due to poor handling capabilities. problem was that the driver floored it right before the car had settled on it's right side, so he upset the balance sending the car to a hard-to-control spin. that was fully a driver's error. too bad for him.
you can tell he loved his car, he even had a front bumper cover for those annoying bugs. Does issuance pay for the damages or because hes on a race track they wont?
That makes me really thankful events in my region never have curbs anywhere remotely close to the track! We did have an Elise last season that spun at the end and did several thousand in body damage hitting the timing light.
Whoa that's gonna be a heck of a repair bill ... The rear axle is busted and so is the front .. God help this guy recover if he had been hurt badly ...
Btw, that part of the course is a slalom, not a straight line. Driver error while weaving through the cones + curb too close = an unfortunate repair bill.
driver is not to blame, it happens... only problem is that corvette is not a car for this job, neither is 911... they are cars for big, fast circruits, but here for example honda civic type r would be more useful or lotus elise...
I think everyone arguing here is missing the point - the track was set up TOO CLOSE to a curb! It's a potential hazard. The driver nor the handling capabilities of the Corvette - which I believe are pretty decent - are not at fault.
@sixstanger00 erm... the driver is completely at fault. He lifted the throttle at a terrible moment. shifted the weight bias forward, threw the car out of control and into a curb.
@JustAnotherKneeGrow So if a race track is built adjacent to a playground, and a car flies off the track and injures some children, it's entirely the driver's fault? Anyone with a grasp of track safety can see this was a bad idea. Granted, the driver lost control, but you have to allow for that possibility when designing the track. Placing the track that close to a curb was a foolish move. Period.
@sixstanger00 I don't disagree that it was too close.. but that doesn't absolve the driver. He CAUSED the accident. The fact that a curb was there was absolutely stupid, but it doesn't change the fact that the driver's inexperience is what caused the accident.
@JustAnotherKneeGrow No, I wasn't disputing the cause, but as I said, even if Ken Block is autocrossing, that doesn't mean this kind of thing wouldn't happen with him behind the wheel. No matter your skill level, you're never immune to accidents. That said, the people overseeing the autoX shouldn't have routed the course that close to an obvious hazard.

@markd514 you do realize that the transmission is in the rear of the newer vettes giving near 50/50 weight distribution. try to educate yourself before you comment the internet will be a better place.
@niceboy60 Your ignorance is overwhelming! Did it occur to you that there is a relationship between the number of cars sold to the number of cars wrecked??
@makstone Americans are always willing to defend the Catastrophic handling of there own cars despite all the evidence against.
.
1- I can Assure you 90% of all cars are able to do the same test without completely loosing control in a 100 % straight line at low speeds (0:40) even with ESP turned off
. Just because a car is sold in considerable numbers does not mean , its OK to be the Car with most video crashes posted in the WORLD
@niceboy60 You don't have any evidence that proves ANYTHING concerning how Corvettes handle. Have you ever owned one? Ill bet the farm the amswer is NO. Look up the lateral G and slalom figures for any Z06 or ZR1 in any enthusiast magazine and they are world class. Get your head out of your ass, let go of your close-minded thinking and back up your statements with FACTS, not some general hollow headed statement about youtube videos.
@niceboy60 FACTS: Cars sold (U.S., 2010) Porsche 911, 6000...Dodge Viper, 344...Corvette 13,000. Logically, there will be more Vette owners having accidents and thefts than 911 or Viper owners because there are MORE OF THEM ON THE ROAD. Do you need more help with grade school level math?
@BabyBeastie1 IS THE CAR FAULT !!! . If my mum mini has ESP system and stability control , there is no reason why a car with a Massive V8 system which can reach speeds close to 200 mph , Cant have IT . Is Reckless & Murderer no to put this safety features in this Monsters . There is far to many videos of people crashing this Stupid Corvetts at low speeds or even on a straight clear roads . This cars behave like they are on ice even at low speeds , This Corvetts are Recless . 0:37
@niceboy60 You are an uninformed idiot! First of all the car DOES have stability control, but he likely turned it off while he ran the course. The number of crash videos is relatedd to the number of cars sold, thus the more popular a sports car is, the more owners that will wreck them.
If you were a REAL sports car driver who actually attended these events in PERSON, you would see spinouts like this at EVERY event, regardless of the model. The problem here is POOR COURSE DESIGN.
@LairdAssessors He had stability control turned off and he applied too much throttle. Would you have called it a "crash" if the course was away from the curb and he never struck it? No, you would call it a spinout, which can occur in ANY car on a road course if too much power is applied with stability control turned off.
@makstone you just don't get it !!! . Look , is not a problem if this corvette Crashed . The problem is HOW THEY CRASH !!! . If this cars had been Crashed wile it was doing a hard corners it was OK , It can happen to every Car . But what is UNACCEPTABLE when a sport car that can reach almost 200 mph to CRASH in the ONLY straight part of the Test at very low speeds ( 0:38) . ONLY Reckless Crap American cars SKILL is required to go straight !!!
@niceboy60 Hey idiot...LOOK AT THE VIDEO. He was NOT traveling in a straight line..he created an oversteer condition by applying too much power after passing the cones. This can happen in ANY car with a high amount of torque with traction comtrol turned off. You also don't know what gear he was in...or how fast he was actually going. In 2nd or third gear torque can overwhelm the tires and create oversteer. Can you really be this ignorant?
If you look at 0:41 you can see he turns the steering wheel slightly to the left as he was still in the process of straightening out from the previous corner. At the same time he gets aggressive with the throttle resulting in the the slide.
As the car slides he tries to reverse it by turning in the opposite direction and possible staying on the gas. It does seem at 0:43 that the front brake locks for a split second but its hard to say for sure.
R.I.P vette :/

In this case, it's too much car, not enough driver. Glad he's okay.

We love the style, sound & power of American cars, but when will they make them handle?
LairdAssessors 2 months ago
@LairdAssessors He had stability control turned off and he applied too much throttle. Would you have called it a "crash" if the course was away from the curb and he never struck it? No, you would call it a spinout, which can occur in ANY car on a road course if too much power is applied with stability control turned off.

Just bad timing I'd say.
