  • Can you explain the points at 0:57 and 1:38? In the first one, it looks as if Lopez has the attack because Pozdniakov took a retreat before his attack yet he was given priority. Same thing for the second one except it looked as if Pozdniakov had the attack (this one was difficult because the camera angle cut in mid point).

  • @kevinthemathgeek these days that is how it would be called, however at that time directors we very harsh with the "attack no" call in the first zone. both of those attacks were called attack misses, counterattack is good

  • It's only one of one like boxing would be better if you could have a whole army of fencers vsing another army like what you see in lord of the rings.

  • Jack Sparrow is better than these idiotic retards

  • i didnt no there was a fencing olympics xD

  • @thomas141500 i think it is one of the five sports that have been in every single olympics actually

  • I think people should tell you whether their vid is foil, epee or sabre.

  • @hello123459546 i posted these videos back when i only posted sabre. now i try to do a better job with that

  • @hello123459546 one question I take fencing but I am a newbie and I only know the names of the swords in spanish which is: el florete el sable y la espada. But I don't know which is which in english I was wondering if you could clear that up for me or someone else could.

  • @iYahhdo florete is foil, sable is sabre, espada is epee. hope this helps

  • @CyrusofChaos thanks a bunch! I subsribed btw good videos.

  • holy crap lopez is fast

  • haxor!

  • fencing= i poke you i win

  • so...who won?? i stumbled upon this video and i know a wee bit on fencing, but i wasnt so sure if they were even hitting each other or what was going on.

  • Lopez's chest cuts have very good technique.

  • Those two have met so many times.

  • That lopez fucktard makes the sport look like bar room darts, with his ranting and hollering during sport, how tacky.

  • @holydiver420 what do you expect? the french are not known for their class.

  • lol 80 comments, 42 ratings

  • неудача

  • im fat

  • personally i gotta say i can see where hotelroomsmoker is coming from because in full speed its almost too fast for anyone who doesn't know what they're looking at to realize how complex fencing is. @hotelroomsmoker once you slow it down, like in the slowmo here, you'll notice how deliberate EVERY SINGLE action is

  • Lopez's counterattacks are beautiful to watch

  • sorry im not buying it. i watched the old olympic fencing videos circa 1940. Talk about talent skill...not cheap shots. PS I am NOT a fencing expert, but I am an amateur fencer and I personally would enjoy to see the "best" fencers in the world show off some swordplay and not just go for the quick point. It's like fencing sabre and getting all your points on "hand hits". Laaaammmmmmeeeeee

  • @hotelroomsmoker so your saying in a sport where the objective is simply to get a touch, only well executed touches should count? :P

  • @avidOlympicsWatcher I honestly don't care about popular opinion. I watch a guy run and jump just looking to barely tag his opponent for a point and I call it dishonorable and childish. KThxBai

  • @hotelroomsmoker a lot of people say that because they cant see that there is actually a lot of strategy involved. its obviously not traditional sword fighting so you have to think of it as a completely different sport altogether and respect that these athletes have extremely complex and interesting games that they play when they fence

  • @CyrusofChaos

yeah but it's always 1 vs 1.. What about 2 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 or 10 vs 10 to elimination that would be better imo.

  • @hotelroomsmoker well you sir are for one...ignorant in not seeing the complexity of this sport and the tradition of it....and two you are most likely american which explains the ignorance

  • Dude, I am a fencer and I am sure you couldn't do half of what they are doing on that strip. I mean seriously which do you think is harder, to pull back the Saber and smack your opponent like a brute or flick them with the end of the tip at the perfect distance to score a point?

  • @mc44996 they are both equally difficult. try attacking someone good across the whole strip in sabre. it is one of the hardest things i have ever had to do

  • @hotelroomsmoker it's dishonorable and childish for you to say that. you probably don't even fence. you just watch the olympics. what would you know about this sport. As a fencer, i know that it takes a lot of skill to get a wrist touch, and it's way harder then just slashing someone. grow up dude

  • @hotelroomsmoker Plain and simple bro...don't watch.

  • I fence WAY better than any fencer out there. I have NEVER EVER been beaten in fencing. I use a REAL TWO HANDED sword and I can use it a feather weight rapier. I fence so good halfly because I'm a Mughal. if the Mughal empire was still around I woud be a prince. My best sports are archery, javelin, and fencing. FENCING 4EVA

  • @SirValorUltima Noone cares, shut up...

  • @SirValorUltima LOL :D serious business!

  • ロペスのコントルマジパネェw

  • What the hell, all they do is swing their sabres all over the place. I think my class and I could pown either of these guys, seriously haha

  • @MarinVillalpando15 Your class would lose priority at the word fence and wouldn't retreat fast enough to avoid the first advance lunge.

  • @naimah92 Like you would know.

  • god i love Pozdniakov

  • this is sabre so you can slash right?

  • epic lunge at 6:35 rofl

  • @kevinthemathgeek lol thats a flunge

  • these people just put on the replays at the wrong time

    soooo annoying

  • @china6786note it is incredibly frustrating isnt it?

  • these guys look worse then the kids at my fencing class...sheesh. Henry Morgan would have chopped these kids to pieces.

  • @hotelroomsmoker wow ok: lopez got a silver and gold medal at this olympics and pozdniakov is widely regarded as the best sabre fencer ever

  • @CyrusofChaos Best ever? What about our Pawłowski, huh? :)

  • Dammit I blinked and missed the whole ten minutes of this :S

  • Im not a fencer but I mean doesnt that shit hurt like a bitch if it clacks your off hand?

  • Lopez needs to shut the hell up.

  • @carpediem081 have you people not watched fencing before? compared to many other fencers on the tour lopez is actually very quiet. and this is the olympics where everyone is supposed to be fired up

  • MARTI THE ONE OF SPAIN FIGHTS BERRY GOOG PINA TWO BUT I LIKE MORE HOW HE FIGHT MARTY THEY ARE FROM SPAIN,

  • yo , checkout my profile . add me as a friends too :)

  • yo , checkout my profile . add me as a friends too :)

  • I just love Zsolt Kaposvari as a referee.

  • @anyplace1 He has a nice accent :]

  • 3:12 excellent atk

  • Man that Lopez looks like a prick, why does he gloat so much? Isn't that a bit unsportsmanlike?

  • Lopez is impressive, just the best!

You are the coward not him : )

  • I fucking love sabre...

  • that was a pretty good bout man

  • Dear God I hate the Olympic coverage of fencing. It's the worst for sabre; the damn rings are slowly flying across the screen obscuring entire touches. Save the slow-mo for the 1 minute break, challenges, and the recap.

  • stop making fun of lopez

  • I really find it hard to continue watching this - that frenchy keeps screaming like a bitch

  • It's pretty normal. Go to pretty much any competition and you'll have people yelling a lot. You get used to it, though it still can be annoying.

  • Personally, I think the yelling is appropriate for the olympics; they came so far to get there and i doubt they would want to be stopped =)

  • first fencing vid i ever you tubed. my reaction...ooook

  • @Blurate

Podzniakov won around four or five olympic. He has many more international medals. No one has achieved as much success as he has that's currently fencing right now.

  • i must say pozdniakov is my fav fencer

  • Lopez is a coward!!!!

  • how is lopez a coward...

  • i dont know hoes hes a cowerd but that skyhook he just puuled off ahhhhhhhhhhhh flawless

  • @vovangenius Who won?

  • @vovangenius there's a difference between coward and defensive

  • @vovangenius

    he's not a coward, he's just a sissy boy..

  • yep statistics, abo.

  • lopez has no form whatsoever. jumping around like a frog is no way to fence

  • but i guess, to be fair, that pozdniakov has slow reflexes (see 8:00)

  • that is not slow reflexes: lopez set up the counterattack brilliantly. he got pozdniakov to hold an incredible amount. that is not slow reflexes, it is a sign of an incredible counterattack

  • Statistics.

  • Lopez is really talented!

  • Superb.

  • Lopez is incredible!

  • why do you think that. lopez is an amazing fencer and beating pozdniakov is obviously something that he should be allowed to celebrate about

  • why is he a dick exactly?

  • it appeared that way with all the yelling and unecessary celebration after each point ... but after watching more fencing videos it is apparently normal to overreact to a point.

    Whats the point in this?

  • It's just something fencers do. I could myself getting very excited about one point just from being nervous.

  • I know its not your fault, but the replays by nbc are rediculus. Its often during the "live" fight...

  • god bless european fencing. It's so strange to think that i wasn't even born and Pozdniakov's kneck was heavy with medals...

I love this russian dude... but lopes was really inspired.

  • Yeah, Lopez did a wonderful job of denying Poz his famous attacks. Over and over you saw him catch Poz in prep or simply time him out with wrist cuts. It seems clear that either his game is an anti-poz game or he prepared for him. I am leaning towards the former since Poz's attacking style has become so popular.

  • Lopez is french!

  • Strange things happen when you upload dozens of videos at a time ;) Thanks!

  • of nothing :)

  • Nicolás López was born in France, but their parents are Spaniards.

  • Hell Yeah!
