I saw the Dynamic Superiors in the early 70's at a club in DC called "The Room" on NY Ave. I never really continued to follow their music. "Shoe, Shoe Shine" has always been my favorite. Thanks to each of you contributors I can experience the music by them that I've never heard. I love the Dynamic Superiors. If anyone remembers "The Room", please holla.
This is Greg Burgin the promoter of those concerts, I sprung the Dynamic Superiors on Marvin with my play brother Micheal Mancha, when toured in an old school bus painted blue.
Spingarn GreenWave DC, home of Elgin Baylor,Dave Bing now mayor Detroit, Sherman Douglas, Micheal Graham, Dynamic Superiors and the greatest producer of the late 60's to mid 70's Van McCoy
This is what I'm talking about Album covers! Some you could look at and always enjoy or covers that made you think because they were so profound....but this one I just like to look at. I don't remember this single but I like it. Thanks for posting.
@blaknificent09: so you like those provocative album covers? then check out Jack McDuff's - Ju Ju. For a jazz musician, he definitely had "ohio player's" taste...song is badass too...
I'm an original member of Rock Candy ("Alone with No Love, "I Don't Think I'll Ever Love Another -- Dontee Records, Joe Tate) and gigged regularly w/ Dynamic Superiors in DC.
My mom was best friends with George Spann's mom . . . didn't know he was still alive. Appreciate anyone who can get me in touch with him.
To all of the other soul messengers I gigged with and knew from back in the day who've passed on --- may you rest in peace.
@FaithNetTV Greetings. I have the Rock Candy record "Alone With No Love". It was a big spin at Blackpool Mecca's Highland Room (Ian Levine/Colin Curtis) in 1974.
they came to milwaukee, back in the days, the group said, they were dedicating the song to all the women's in the house, tony, dedicateded the song to all the men's, and the broke out with, shoe, shoe, shine.solid showmanship
....since "Idol" is doing Motown this week it would be nice to have the coaches introduce some of this to them instead of the usual Motown stuff they always do.
My DAD was in the group (road manager and sound man) I'm currently working on the documentary. Let me know if you want to appear (all 70's groupies wanted LOL) - My Dad and Maurice are here in ATL - we will start shooting in FEB. mamcfaddenjr at yahoo
I was in the group too from around 1969-1970. Please say hi to your dad and to Maurice, from that white boy guitar player that worked with them at the Shelter Room and elsewhere. Mike is a good man. And Maurice too. John
Hey...I saw them perform in 1976-77 (not sure of the date) at the Olympia Theater in Detroit, MI...I believe they opened for the Isley Brothers. Their act was one of the most controversial, I had seen...I LOVED IT!!! Please post, "Shoe Shoe Shine."
Saw these guys back in the day, Tony used to wreck the place with his version of "Me and Mr. Jones"! Can we get LIVIN FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN up in here? I know it's long but it's a kickass tune!
I've always thought "Shoe Shoe Shine" was a great sound on the Dynamic Superiors album. I had the opportunity to meet Tony, the lead singer of the group in the early 70's. I hate that they didn't really get a chance. Welcome to the DC area the new Dynamic Superiors. Where these guys where from, can you believe they made it to Motown and SoulTrain and never got any credit for their work. Looking forward to seeing the new group getting their props.
I had the joy of traveling with these guys when they opened up for Marvin Gaye in 1974. They were a great bunch of guys, and a hard act to follow on stage. Ladies Choice, (we were Marvins background singers on tour), and everyone aboard enjoyed them. They were a very special group.
@shadowdragonzerox this is greg burgin promoter of those shows remember michael mancha my play brother. loved ladies choice. stephen hill disagreed with my decision to replace the independents with the superiors but i did it anyway and they killed it. Marvin loved them. plus they were a grand cheaper,
Hamishblues you are the man!!!!! Everything these guys did I love!! Now, if someone could download Leave It Alone and from this album, "Feeling Mellow", life would be good!!!!
oof! love the cover.. gotta get this one on vinyl!!

"One Nighter" was a massive underground hit on the UK Soul scene.
Lead singer Tony Washington appears to have upstaged (and preempted) Sylvester in many respects... ;-)
