well if you are driving by and one of the horses starts coming close to you car then i wouldnt want to drive too fast by it and startle the poor thing. what do you want him to do go in reverse and make a 50 ft circle around the moving animal?
This is a nice video - I like the music (I don't think it's too dramatic, just the perfect amount). I've been on this ride before, and it was one of the most fun times in my life!
What a beautiful video...we have been lucky that every time we go to the OBX to our beach house we have seen the horses...this was just like reliving seeing them all over again!
@Cvj118 I agree. you should have just watched them from afar and let them in peace. there is way too much human interaction with these creatures as it is due to the never-ending development. Some protection NC offers these things. So sad.
Nice video, going to Corolla for the first time tomorrow, cannot wait! These horses remind me of the ones in Delmarva, near the Va./Md. state lines right on the beaches!
ABSOLUTLY LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!! THEY R SOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! i am going to corolla Friday and i hope i see some wild horses!!!!!!!! LOVE THE MUSIC!!!!
I alway loved our coast. If you haven't seen Shackleford "ponies" Horses please see those too. Our coast line is beautiful & I take a lot of landscape photos.I don't want to see any of them destroyed, just beause of the overcrowding.
We need to keep Our Heritage alive!
Even Goat Island which is further down in the Waterway.
These horses were bred and released some-odd 50 years ago. they kill off 500 of them yearly to keep population down...you guys are extremely stupid to think these are the true "wild mustangs" thse horses were domesticated and released...the 500 year thing is complete bullcrap that they sale to tourist.
wild sea oats grow on the dunes. the seaoats are a protected plant species. i have seen signs stating this.good thing the horses cant read. i dont know where they get fresh water. i pla n trip to obx this fall will go see horses great video thanks
@tmartin3 YES! There are many places in Corolla and the surrounding area. We went with Wild Horses Adventure Tours (WHAT). They were very reasonably priced for a 2-hour guided drive.
@wilhelm1974 ....I live in NC. The wild horses are really there. I see them eat the grass like horses in pastures do. The horses swam to shore in the 1500s and 1600s from the English, Spanish, and Portugese ships which wrecked there. The Outer Banks are called "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" because of all the shipwrecks. Debris from the wrecks still washes onto the shore sometimes after a hurricane.
@ydontyoudosomethin It is amazing and unique. The outer banks is like no other place I've ever been. We stay in Avon when we go. It is peaceful and chill. Not for the "party crowd" It's all about the beach and nature (obviously, =) ) Surfing, kayaking and fishing. SOOOOOOOOO RELAXING!!!!!!!!
@ydontyoudosomethin ...........my family just returned from there.........was pretty quite and cool, which we liked. Along with the horses you'll find plenty of conch shells early morning

It is sometimes difficult finding horses like that on the beach. It's much easier if you go to Corova. But Corova is hard to find if you don't know where you are going.
Was Blessed to spend 4 days there,Whitetail in the back yard and a Large family of Horses in the Road out Front. Beautiful Area- Great People! I'll be back!
We have lived in Greensboro NC and are only going to Outer Banks for the 1st time. We are meeting a few families in Corolla, NC Friday and only there for 2 nights. Please tell us the best things to see and do!! 10 yr old, 8 yr and 6 yrs
cant wait till this summer i am going to the OBX with my cousins i used to live in NC agreed with best state in the country i am proud to say i am from North Carolina
Amazing footage! I know exactly where this spot is north of Corolla and Whalehead... I have driven along this beach about 10 years ago with neices and nephews. They are all "older now", but they still remember this area too!
omg when me and my family went to the outer banks, i got so close to the horses, i was like 3 feet from one. but i wasn't scared! lol. my mom kept telling me to back up cause its gonna attack, but i didn't believe it was even that wild! next time we go down there(this spring)i'm gonna feed them carrots, or is that allowed? idk
We stay in Kitty Hawk on our vacation but we always drive to Corolla to see the horses and drive on the beach. We make it a day of it. Pack up some lunch, grab the beach chairs and blankets and we are set. The first time we drove on the beach with my rav4, it got stuck. Hit a soft spot and it acted like a shovel. My father in law had to dig us out and tow us a little. It is 4 wheel drive but I guess they can get a little stuck. The next year we were a little wiser on where we drove.
Oh see I why love calling NC Home! Born and raised and I just wish you people would stop driving on our beaches and killing the precious ecosystem with the smug from your SUVs!
hey thats were am going t crolla but i am staying in buck island and we drove on the beach to but now i think its closed i am going on the august 7 outer banks nc in buck island untill the 17 comet back soon but i am leaveing for simth mountain lake today and coming back tuesday night and packing all day wensday it then leaving on thursday it will be so fun and awesome!!!!!
The horses will drink the brackish water, a mix of fresh and salt water. I guess after 400 years of so they have adapted. Don't take your nice new vehicle on the beach yourself, I see soooo many bits of plastic trim lining the beach and at least 8 vehicles stuck on the beach at one time. With only one tow guy here called Larry prices can be VERY high to get a tow.
The horse are usually not actually on the beach itself but behind the dunes. During the summer they are pretty easy to find if you know where they hangout but in the off-season they are much harder to find as they tend to go back more towards the Sound. I highly suggest going with a professionally driven tour such as Wild Horse Adventure Tours, they have a money back guarantee to find the horses for you and really make it a lot of fun.
I LOVE DRIVEING ON THE BEACH IT IS SO AWSOME!!!!!!! A HORSE WAS BORN UNDER OUR HOUSE IN COR. NC 2 YEARS AGO WHEN WE WHERE THERE WE NAMED IT KINGSFORD BECAUSE IT WAS BORN NEXT TO A KINGSFORD COAL BAG! WE SAW IT LAST YEAR WE GO OUT AT NIGHT SIT IN THE BACK ON MY GRANPA'S PICK UP AND DRIVE WAY OUT THERE AND see wild bors horses deers and foxs!
Awesome! I am headed back to Corolla in a couple of days. My best friend Kim and I discovered this place and the wild horses about 10 years ago, along with our kids and husbands. Kim passed away a year ago, and now we are all headed back together. This video brought all the memories back. Thank you, it is a beautiful video.
i was just in corolla on the 12-19 and we tried so hard to see them of course we didnt bring are 4 wheel drive car so we will next year! thats gotta be a great experience!
Lived in the Southeast most of my life. Never went to the OB. :( Of course, I had no idea of the wild horses there. Now I have to take my fiancee there. :)
I live in Napa Valley, so I'll bring some wine. har har
I just returned from a week's stay in Corolla. The 20-something years I have gone to the OBX I have never seen the horses. Sad, I had to watch this video to see them. Too much development ... I'm worried about these beasties!!!
lol omg i saw where we had to drive up on the beach cuz i just got back from curritcuck and i remember driving up the beach 8 miles to get to the house we were staying at
thanks sads92 for this very nice video; I have never gone past the end of the road in corolla to see these wonderful wild horses; what a great part of the outer banks!
which tells me we have either very bad OR (my favorite!) "extreamly exceptional, boardering on genius, taste, that if cloned would raise the perception of the rest of the world by 15 percentile points"..or just good beer! lmbo!
I didn't even know there was still a place in this country that has wild horses roaming free. What a magnificant sight with the ocean in the background. God Bless these beautiful creatures and may they always be happy and free...
Wow! Thank you so much for sending me this vid! I love the Outer Banks!! I was just in Nags Head back in October for my daughter's wedding, such a beautiful place! No wild horses there, but I did get to see many dolphins, swimming southward!! Oh, such a heavenly place, we must preserve this God given stretch of land. :)
t.j. 61!!!! i can't believe this! outer banks lover, too? hmmmm? just ealized that was where i was heading the summer that "windy" came out!.. well, back to y.t. tag! lmbo!
When I was little we would get a beach house every year in Corolla or Currituck. One year we had 2 horses come right up to the house when we had food on the grill. It's a great place and we got a lot of pictures.
please never delete this video Our family stays 8 miles up every year this helps us get through we love it soooo much. Respect the Beach and wild life everyone its theirs not ours.........
Omg. Memories. One Of The Black Horses Was The One Trying TO Attack Me But He Didnt. The Ones Asking How they Got there. There was a shipwreck A Longgg Time Ago.
The horses live there....they were born there...they used to run free till touris activity picked up and the horses started being killed on the highway, now they have a fence so they cant get to the highway but they run on the beach. Beautiful!
I love the Outter Banks! I hope to go back there one day. Seeing this brings back the memories of going to North Carolina! :D Thanks for the video! :)
Gotta love the epic music.

Kim passed away a year ago, and now we are all headed back together. This video brought all the memories back. Thank you, it is a beautiful video.

Lived in the Southeast most of my life. Never went to the OB. :( Of course, I had no idea of the wild horses there. Now I have to take my fiancee there. :)

I just returned from a week's stay in Corolla. The 20-something years I have gone to the OBX I have never seen the horses. Sad, I had to watch this video to see them. Too much development ... I'm worried about these beasties!!!

which tells me we have either very bad OR (my favorite!) "extreamly exceptional, boardering on genius, taste, that if cloned would raise the perception of the rest of the world by 15 percentile points"..or just good beer! lmbo!

I didn't even know there was still a place in this country that has wild horses roaming free. What a magnificant sight with the ocean in the background. God Bless these beautiful creatures and may they always be happy and free...

candle,

When I was little we would get a beach house every year in Corolla or Currituck. One year we had 2 horses come right up to the house when we had food on the grill. It's a great place and we got a lot of pictures.

The horses live there....they were born there...they used to run free till touris activity picked up and the horses started being killed on the highway, now they have a fence so they cant get to the highway but they run on the beach. Beautiful!
