@StevenASweeney You can attach a rubber band to the handle, and pull the rubber band. The rubber absorbs the shock and stops wobbling. watch?v=Fj6fMcJ18aA
Great video, Lawrence! Really shows what the D3100 is capable of. It seems like most of it was shot using manual focus with a tripod. Is that right? Also, did you slow any of the footage down in Premiere? Were you using the 18-55 kit lens? This video convinced me even more about getting this camera. Thanks!
@rmmcclay thanks! it was all using Manual focus and shot on a video tripod. All footage was with the kit lens and not slowed down, just at normal pace.
To be honest, if i knew about this cameras exposure issues (camera auto-exposes) i would have got the Canon 550D.
@nerdishcouk Whoa! That's a shock. This is the first complaint I've heard about auto-exposure. Now I'm confused. Spent the last two weeks going through everything I could find on the D3100 and was sold. But now this. =( I have Nikon glass, and don't like converters. Plus as a father of two, budget is restrained; but since my old Sony video cam (tape) started having recording issues I decided to go digital. I'm probably still going for this camera. But I'll look into the 550D.
@rmmcclay i just wish i could manually expose in manual mode - its a shame its not fully manual, but i was in the same boat, had Nikon glass and couldn't afford the D7000 (which has manual exposure) as i have two small ones of my own.
Only reason I mentioned the 550D is my friend has one, and it is fully manual.
I believe the 5D MkII was auto at one point, but updated firmware to it could be used in manual, just hope Nikon do something similar.
this camera does have manual exposure control friend, I even use my exposure lock

Nice video. How did you minimize or keep the video from doing the "D3100 quaking wobble" on the pans?
