I have a pointer-beagle mix named Katie. We adopted her almost 10 years ago from the humane society. She's about 13 now, and she's still the best dog in the world. I agree with what they say about needing more baths than the average dog- she has gotten into a lot of stuff over the years (raccoon poop, dead opossum guts).
Well if you love hunting. You will love a beagle! He is also a great pet and my beagle is great with my kids. He sleeps all night and it only howls when it's really bored. Which is rarely because I want him to howl with my kid. But beagles alert you for sure!!!

@lizziecrayola I use to know someone with a Beagle like yours...Sadly that dog tried jumping in cars for the scents , But I would be cautious about your dog when she finds a scent in a hole....with a snake in it or turtle....
The best way to clean them during muddy snowdays or summer bathtimes just get a small bowl of warm/hot water and a few Tbsp's of Apple Cider Vinegar......with paper towel, it's as easy as heck and this also condition's their skin.........

I have a beagle and yes he barhs but only when he wants something or sees another dog across the street. during the night is just some sleep junkie, althought he would bark if he senses something strange. all in all a GREAT dog breed. beware while they are pups they have a hevy destructive behaivour. just give him/her plenty of excersice (sorry for my english I am not form an english speaking country)
It's very surprising to hear that beagles are very vocal! My beagle hardly ever barks (When the maillman isn't around, of course) and I don't even think she knows how to howel. XD They are STUBBORN but easily trainable with the proper motivation, technique, and time. She lovesto get her nose into anything, yes, and she is absolutely food obsessed! But be warned. Our begale is one of the few non-football shaped beagles in my neighborhood. lol
I have a Female Beagle myself as well and she is adorable and very smart. I never had a problem and she is well trained. I plan in the feature to get a male beagle my kids adore this dogs they are just so fun and very loving animals
@NARATO0 as mentioned, this does depend on the landlord. Some rented houses don't allow pets, so it's not just the fact that it would be an apartment. You just gotta get lucky.

My beagle is uber diva just like her name. Sleeps all day. never barks. She's awesome, very lovw-maintenance. She stopped barking when she had to go through second surgery because the doctor fuckd up her belly when she got spayed, she barked the whole time she was at the vet she didnt have voice when she got home and nver bark from then on. Our cocker howls when the beagle is not home. LOL :)
I just lost my "Little Miss" in October to kidney disease and I'm still heart broken! This was by far the BEST dog I have ever owned! I miss her terribly and I still laugh when I think of her "singing" for anyone who would listen!
This video is right on, they are very trainable with FOOD, my dog is 7 and I still teach him new tricks with little pieces of meat- he is a vert fast dog and running with them at the park keeps their weight down. Also playing with them; hiding treats- keep them mentally stimulated- they are SO smart. But I'm thinking about getting him a pal because they tend to have separation anxiety.

I love my 2 year old beagle mix Edward! He's 1/4 Jack Russell and the rest Beagle. The first few months of having him was tough cause he was very hyper and naughty puppy! But he mellowed down after about a year when I started training him and now he mastered basic commands and a bunch of cool tricks! He's a wonderful dog! ^_^
My family just welcomed a new Beagle pup into our home last week...haven't had the breed in many years now, but we all love them, and everybody decided it was time we had another. :) He's the tiiiiniest, cutest little thing...endeared himself instantly. He may have a nose for mischief, but who can stay mad at a puppy face--especially such a sad, sweet-looking one?! :3
I'm not gonna lie, my beagle is a bad dog. He howls a lot and at the most inappropriate times, he chews up and destroys shoes, he nips at me when I try to make him get out from under my bed, and is always hyper. He's very affectionate though.

my dog Buddy was a stray when we got him. Before making the decision to keep him, i got online and did some research on Beagles. It pretty much said the same thing this video said----they need to be kept---leash or fenced yard. even a fenced yard is no guarantee that they will stay in it. Beagles are great diggers. I have neighbors that have two beagles in their yard--with concrete laid all around it so they can't get out. oh and electric fences? forget about it. they can get past them.
@Lucariospirit They will go after your rabbit for sure. They definetly are hunting dogs. Mine is always sniffing around on walks. Keep your rabbit locked up or just watch your rabbit really carefully and youll be fine. I used to have a guinea pig and i let him run around the yard, my beagle seemed to just want to play but i wouldnt trust it if you cherish your rabbit. The lizard i dont think they will go after. But im not completly sure.
Hm... I wanna get a dog but my mom doesn't want a husky my dad doesn't want an Alaskan malamute so we looked at beagles...the beagles we saw are puppies who's parents are only trained for competitions and there's no hunter supposedly in them but there might cause it's there nature...we have two rabbits and a lizard soo...any tips?
@lucariospirit first of all, beagles are hunting dogs. all hounds are hunters. beages are bred for hunting rabbits. like an earlier post said, keep your rabbits safely away from a beagle. The beagle will go nuts trying to get to it. Like the video said, beagles need to be kept. I have a beagle mix and he is indoors always. When he goes out it is on a leash.

Well if you love hunting. You will love a beagle! He is also a great pet and my beagle is great with my kids. He sleeps all night and it only howls when it's really bored. Which is rarely because I want him to howl with my kid. But beagles alert you for sure!!!

i have a beagles, her name is Cherry and she is 13 years old. I have had her since I was 18 months old. shes the love of my life. (: they are a great breed of dog.

I love my 2 year old beagle mix Edward! He's 1/4 Jack Russell and the rest Beagle. The first few months of having him was tough cause he was very hyper and naughty puppy! But he mellowed down after about a year when I started training him and now he mastered basic commands and a bunch of cool tricks! He's a wonderful dog! ^_^

My family just welcomed a new Beagle pup into our home last week...haven't had the breed in many years now, but we all love them, and everybody decided it was time we had another. :) He's the tiiiiniest, cutest little thing...endeared himself instantly. He may have a nose for mischief, but who can stay mad at a puppy face--especially such a sad, sweet-looking one?! :3

I'm not gonna lie, my beagle is a bad dog. He howls a lot and at the most inappropriate times, he chews up and destroys shoes, he nips at me when I try to make him get out from under my bed, and is always hyper. He's very affectionate though.

my dog Buddy was a stray when we got him. Before making the decision to keep him, i got online and did some research on Beagles. It pretty much said the same thing this video said----they need to be kept---leash or fenced yard. even a fenced yard is no guarantee that they will stay in it. Beagles are great diggers. I have neighbors that have two beagles in their yard--with concrete laid all around it so they can't get out. oh and electric fences? forget about it. they can get past them.

@Lucariospirit They will go after your rabbit for sure. They definetly are hunting dogs. Mine is always sniffing around on walks. Keep your rabbit locked up or just watch your rabbit really carefully and youll be fine. I used to have a guinea pig and i let him run around the yard, my beagle seemed to just want to play but i wouldnt trust it if you cherish your rabbit. The lizard i dont think they will go after. But im not completly sure.

Hm... I wanna get a dog but my mom doesn't want a husky my dad doesn't want an Alaskan malamute so we looked at beagles...the beagles we saw are puppies who's parents are only trained for competitions and there's no hunter supposedly in them but there might cause it's there nature...we have two rabbits and a lizard soo...any tips?

@lucariospirit first of all, beagles are hunting dogs. all hounds are hunters. beages are bred for hunting rabbits. like an earlier post said, keep your rabbits safely away from a beagle. The beagle will go nuts trying to get to it. Like the video said, beagles need to be kept. I have a beagle mix and he is indoors always. When he goes out it is on a leash.
