I was about 5 years old when the good old US Air Force officer whom often brought goodies to the kindergarten when Korea was streaken with poverty and destruction after the Korean War (North invated South). We all knew his name 'Captain Joe'. I am now near sixty, but my memories about Captain Joe is still ringing in my mind with this song. I didn't understand the lyrics, but the melody was so sweet, not knowning how said it was. I pray for Captain Joe still today.
Hello Mr James Not too many memories of the Korean war.......Perhaps I was too young to be interested in politics..However remember laying on the floor in front of the only TV we had. Snookie Lanson on the Lucky strike hit parade singing this ........I loved it ever since. Thanks
I was about 5 years old when the good old US Air Force officer whom often brought goodies to the kindergarten when Korea was streaken with poverty and destruction after the Korean War (North invated South). We all knew his name 'Captain Joe'. He was good looking and toll.. I am now near sixty, but my memories about Captain Joe is still ringing in my mind with this song. I didn't understand the lyrics, but the melody was so sweet, not knowning how said it is. I pray for Captain Joe still today.
I love this song! It always reminds of the day, in 1958, when I saw my birthson for last time & signed papers to give him up for adoption the following day. However, this has a happy ending. I found him after 36 yrs & we are now very close. Love this song! As adoptive parents also became very close.
What a image to conjure up.. Most think of a love of the unrelated kind (sweethearts).....That must have been the hardest thing you ever had to do.....Thanks for the comment
@TheMaimie What a devastating thing to go through. As a teenager in that era these things were taken out of your hands,so to speak. You must have felt a part of you was missing for all those years. I am truly glad that you found your baby boy, and you both found happiness. with each other.
I lived across the street from a Wade Buff when I was a wee little boy in Jacksonville Fla. Wondering if this is the same Wade Buff. If so I never new about this. If not it's a pretty big coincidence.
@sacflies Replying to my own comment! Yes it is the same Wade Buff. I asked my mom about it and she told me he was in The Dream Weavers. Pretty cool! We lived in Jacksonville during the entire 60's and our families were good friends. Wade, if you see this Helen would love to hear from you!
Cool...I did not know them as I was very young when this was released. I first heard it on " Hit Parade" with Snookie Lansing Singing it ....But I hope Wade Is still living .....Gets your message and calls Helen.
A great slow dance tune, this song reached its zenith at #6 on the charts in 1956. I thought I found one of the Dream Weavers in Florida and tried to get in touch with him maybe get an autograph, but I was unsuccessful. But I still think this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
They went to college at the nearby University of Fla(Go Gators). I heard this on the radio before my teenage years even began. It will always be one of my all-time top five. That said.thanks for sharing this beautiful record.
What a beautiful, haunting song. We've all had a pure love that didn't last and we've went on with our lives and it's been good, but in a corner of our heart we've wondered what if... this song brings back memories that are bittersweet, yet dear, and makes us regret that we are growing old.
One of the great romantic pop songs from my youth....I was 15 when it was popular, and my macho buddies kidded me unmercilessly when I told them I liked it. So nice to hear it again.
r.i.p gran, this was your favourite song. I'll never, ever forget you. I have this on a 78 and have almost warn the shelack out over the last couple of months.
the most beautiful song ever. Its available through Amazon ahnd on various cd compilations as well as downloadable on mp3 from Apple (thats how I got it)> what a way to remember teenage broken hearts
I remember hearing the end of this on the radio when I was 16 in 1978 and spent 2 years looking for it. I even found it on a 78. This version can't be beaten.
my father played piano on this recording. They played on the Ed Sullivan show and I've desp. been looking for a video of the performance to surprise dad with. Anyone have any ideas who may have it?
