  • Ouh yeah <3

  • ... Even if you don't see this for a long time, I'll still be glad to get your suggestions, and I'll definitely check them out. Good luck in school. -Steve-

  • @jimirymodestoca Don't worry. I go on youtube like 20 times a day lol! I will get back to your question sometime this week.. Im kind of clogged with homework at the moment.

  • Hi, again, Kevin. I was listening to your piece again and I noticed your exchange with "rwmcjazz". I was wondering if you could recommend a piece or two that you consider good examples of modality. I guess it would be extra cool if they were pieces with modal lead guitars, but other instruments would be fine. I'm not sure how much I understand modes, and I have a hunch I might be ready, ear-wise, anyway, to appreciate them. ... Even if you don't see this for a long time.... (continued)

  • what was exactly the assignment about?

  • @MrVargasesteban I dont quite remember since this was like 2 years ago, but basically we had to create composition in school, solo or with a group and write the score.. So I did this freestyle composition, basically improv.. and ofcourse, I broke the rules, I BS'ed the score because I was playing something much more sophisticated than the skills that I needed to write the score at that time.

  • Hey, Kevin, I'm just a random surf-by (just looking for major scale bend licks), and I happened to really enjoy this. Really nice piece; very tasteful. I hope you're still playing and composing. Bravo! -Steve-

  • @jimirymodestoca Thank you a lot! I actually started college recently as a pre-med student so I've been busy and haven't been able to play the guitar as often as I would like to. However, I do plan on picking it up soon. =)

  • Hey, it's great to see young people trying their compositions out on audiences. That takes a lot of courage. I often hear my students at our high school say the same thing you said; that their composition/guitar class was their hardest class. Like I was saying, you are ready to move on and begin using more of the modal sounds available in improvisation. Move away from blues (based) scales and diatonicism. Vary your tempo(s) and create well defined phrases that you can develop.

  • @rwmcjazz yeah, it is true, i should get a little more advanced with my scales.. right now im currently working on perfecting my technique... and trying out tendencies tones and just something that sounds much more interesting, something simple but engaging at the same time...

  • Good, you seem on track and ready to take the next step up. In truth, you basically said all you had to say in your solo in the first 40 seconds. The rest was - well was not very engaging. No problem though. Motivic deleopment is needed along with the use of modes. Reharminzation of the piano chords, as they were much too basic. Play over implied chords and answer you own musical statements.

  • @rwmcjazz thank you very much for this critique, i know i could have done better, but our only opportunity to practice this was in school, i tried to keep it simple, i will actually remake this piece in studio quality, I will play the piano and play the guitar all myself with something more melodic to it and give it some flavor. It would be cool if you subscribed so that when i finally create this piece you will be one of the one to hear it first :)

    Thank you very much!
