  • Ad many said before, consoles do not really do 1080p + resolutions plus, they don't need to deal with Direct X extra layer of software.

  • Still looks fake! I'll wait another 10 years.

  • hahah sad but truth

  • The guy that speaks, does not know how to speak or not capable to do that job...

  • Bullshit.

  • that guy stutters like no other..

  • if i recall right only the reflections were raytraced... nothing 'wrong' with that. but its not the same as a fully raytraced scene and thus they should mention it

  • not very impressive, ATI's cinema 2.0 is better than this.

  • so what the point ?

  • it's just a new game engine

  • cool

  • it seems like this is supposed to have a part 2

  • there must be a few gt300's rendering this, anyone who is anyone knows that a single gt200 would choke and die Rasterizing this let alone ray tracing. I beleive a daisy chain of 3 PS3's managed about 7 fps on something like this. (i cant quite remember)

  • Well there's no real way of knowing, but I think you exaggerate far too much.

A single GT200 would be capable of rasterizing that scene quite easily. Most of it is just high-res textures in a somewhat enclosed environment, being a city, with the only really high-poly object being the Veryon.

As for ray-tracing, I don't think a single GT200 could run that smooth, but certainly four GT200s.

The reason is because the scene really isn't as complicated as most think.

  • However, the other Veryon demo, since it featured much more complex lighting, like with global illumination calculations, is far more difficult.

This scene appears to use a fairly simple ray-tracer, few bounces, not-so-complex lighting, and we all know how ray-tracers tend to scale in performance much differently than rasterization.

Ray-tracers typically have a linear performance curve when raising or lowering resolution, for example.

  • your very correct on my exaggerations , i forgot gpus are about 30x faster than the cpu.

  • 3 ps3s in not even equivalent to one gt200

  • @calvinjaramillo

You are some stupid asshole.. compare a console to a videocard? Cell is the power in the ps3,not the RSX,dumbass.

  • you can't compare a gpu raw power to a cpu..ps3 cpu got betten by a p4 in raw power. its just an overrated cpu in the wrong place that shouldn't even be used for consoles.

  • a P4? seriously? ive never really looked into a PS3's cell processor. but i guess it really isnt working looking into at all.

  • ... and i've read that the PS3's GPU is a modified 7900. It brings to question: how the f*** do they make games look so good on such weak hardware ?!

  • lower Anti_aliasing with lower resolution than most tv's, plus theres an upscaler with makes dvd's look almost as sharp as blu-ray, and theres also many cpu's.

  • @GagyiLaszlo Because the games are optimized for that architecture (PS3 in this case), is easier and cheaper to develop a game like crysis (the first one) without inverting time optimizing the code, so the hard work is for the hardware, developers don't care.

  • tow words: the illuminati

  • Actually if you recall, killzone 2 ran most of its graphics of of the ps3's processor. Which is really really powerful

  • @GagyiLaszlo

because they are rendered at 720p with >= 30fps and then upscaled.

Additionally, the aa is only applied to part of the image and there is no support for excess of 4x.

Really crappy when you break it down.

  • good design and artists!

  • Because when the 7800 came out, there weren't any games that used the shader model3 and normal mapping, Now almost every game uses normal mapping and contains only shader model 3 shaders.

  • the key word is modified ;) LOL but seriously i know and they've got the CELL processor aswell

  • @GagyiLaszlo They may have a secret that they don't want to reveal? =O hehehe... ;) Just kidding... I don't know.

  • @GagyiLaszlo cos the ps3 aint runnin windows... and it has two 7900's (i think)

  • @plodge85 It has one 8800 and You are pulling these two 7900 out of your a55 ;)

  • @GagyiLaszlo Well when they design games to fit the graphics card and not the other way around, gpu's can be pushed way harder.

  • @GagyiLaszlo Software, why would you want to play nice and smooth for 300$, when you can pay 2000$ and lag in Crysis.

  • @berindea,

If you buy that amount for a PC that lags in crysis you are screwed over!

Got my system for 600 Euros and it plays Crysis smooth in 4800x1200

remember most console games are rendered in 600P then stretched to 1080P!

    we do raw 1080P ^^

  • @waazabie Don't think you can get a system with 3 or 2 monitors to run that resolution for 600 euros. And i was also being ironic.I'm acctually a PC guy.

  • @berindea, ooh, well I did:p

    Phenom II X6 1090T

    HD5770

    ASRock 880G Extreme 3

HAF Coolermaster with 5 extra fans. (8 fans lol)

But do notice, I already had my Blue-ray player and HDD from my older PC.

  • @waazabie Well, you can't get that in my country for under 800-1000$, considering you have atleast 4 gigs of DDR3 ram.Anything's possible though.

  • @berindea, btw I have 2gb ram.

    I think I spend like $750 on it. that's about 630 euros

  • @berindea, Wait you meant 3x1080p?

I don't have the monitors for that and probably wouldn't be possible for the HD5770 but 4800x1200 just goes fine^^

  • @GagyiLaszlo until the ps3 secrets is fully reveal we will be wondering ourselves. but by the looks of uncharted 2 and god of war 3 the ps3 sure can pull some awesome in game graphics for sure.

  • @GagyiLaszlo PS3 GPU is not 7900 it's 8800 something (GTS/GTX/GT).

  • @GagyiLaszlo, In a PC, CPU and GPU work apart (Unless with Physx shit)

anyway in a PS3 CPU and GPU work together so I think that's why.

And most of those games just run in a res of 600P ;)

  • @GagyiLaszlo Simple really, developers first start working and optimizing the console games and then they just port them to the PC... that means they have all the time to optimize the game to run on a specific combo, CELL CPU and 7900GPU, now for the pc they have to optimize the game to work on a shitload of graphics cards and Cpu's...

  • @GagyiLaszlo Pretend the console is a PC without windows or anything installed on it. Now with a game, the cd has software like Unreal Engine or Valve's Source. They basically write their own graphics drivers and with that, it makes the console a bit more efficient than a normal PC cause the drivers aren't optimized for each and every graphics card out there. That's why some game a lot faster on AMD card than Nvidia card even if the Nvidia card is a high-end model.

  • @GagyiLaszlo

retard alert, if you read up on ehte PS3 hardware you will understand why.

  • @GagyiLaszlo I think it's really good that programmers sometimes are limited in power like on the consoles because then they learn to program in a way that uses all the awailable system resources, but ya it is really impressive to see, I just wish that much would be done in the same field on pc.

  • @GagyiLaszlo lower resolution and the ability to use the gpu fully because you know it in detail. if you program for a pc you never know what hardware youre going to find.

  • @GagyiLaszlo no operating system and different architecture of course

  • @GagyiLaszlo virtual drives my friend, virtual drives.

  • @GagyiLaszlo the graphics on that games looks fine but the true behinde that is that they use lower graphics settings lower resulution textures and some other lower shit but they use a smooth particle thing like in GTA IV and shinny reflections. That is the true :).

    You can test it.

I have a PS3 and a XBOX 360 but xbox doesnt work any more ^^

  • @GagyiLaszlo By making the "maps" much smaller and make the games in DX9 ;-)

  • @GagyiLaszlo because, ps3 have an operatube system very light, and requieres less power, but still is a shit, me too and i dont know how they can put more games in that shit consoles

  • @GagyiLaszlo

    -1- don't use Micro$oft Windoze

    -2- use OpenGL-based 3D API instead of Micro$oft Direct3D

-3- make use of of several CPUs not just 1 CPU core/process

but still console gaming on a crappy FailHD TV with very low 24-30 FPS, makes a game comparable to movie, not a real game. But then again, most modern Games are in fact a "interactive b-movies" without offering a real challenge.

  • i think ur mistaking the gran turismo 5 tech demo where it was 4 PS3's and the game was running at 240 FPS but wut ur saying sounds reasonable for ray tracing limitations.

  • бл.. сосите - такого счастья вам ещё как минимум до черезслед. архитектуры не будет не считая gt300...

  • нихуя себе качество!!!!!!!!!!

    excellent quality!!!!!

  • fuck man that is AWESOME
