  • The No was to

"Gee I wonder if you are refering to my removing/blocking the NUMEROUS 'spoof YouTube accounts' which in the past were clearly set up by those who.. by ATTACKING any who dare to point out just how DANGEROUS the BHPA is...."

but whilst we are at it there were not 7 deaths of BHPA members due to paragliding in 2009. I stand to be corrected of course.

  • Hi Scot / Paraglener, were just back in from a afternoons flying in Fife, Duncan also thinks the total for 2009 was seven BHPA deaths.

In view of the incompetence of BHPA 'instruction' the surprise is just how few deaths they have!

The fact that a significant % of BHPA 'pilots' either no longer fly, or only occasionally fly in nice conditions/Top to Bottom 'sled rides' (hence the BHPA 30% turn over of membership every 2 years) keeps rates down

NB that includes a student under training)

  • @murrayhay please put down the details of the 7 BHPA deaths due to paragliding in 2009 so everyone is aware of these incidents.

  • Hi Scott as you may (or may not) be aware the BHPA charge £10 £15? Per report... in addition BHPA reports don't include the relevant MET Office reports from the day of the death... And as the MET Office charges around £400 these days for a copy for the Aviation MET Reports for a accident location/time...

Hence to provide 'details of BHPA deaths' would cost me a LOT of money... which I prefer to spend on helping even more pilots AVOID accidents/deaths!

PS The BHPA student death was abroad

  • @murrayhay your stalling, date and location and a short precis as you understand them will suffice.

Glad you had a nice fly on friday in nice conditions.

  • (Early) Good morning Scott (paraglenner) Up to feed the flock I guess ;-)

Bet the sheep are glad for the wooly jumpers (and you feeding them!) just now... Brrrrrr

    More video edit/up loading!

PS I don't 'Stall' unless demoing How to RECOVER / AVOID stalls to my many RE-training EX-bhpa students and of course the non-UK students travelling to Scotland to RE-train!

As the BHPA DO NOT RELEASE THE FULL ACCIDENT INFORMATION UNLESS YOU BUY THE REPORT FROM THEM.... why don't you spend the £400+ per!

  • @murrayhay so you cannot even provide dates and location of these incidents that led to the death of BHPA members while paragliding?

For your info the sheep are currently elsewhere 'till April.

  • Hi Scott, lucky sheep away on their hols till April ;-)

I could of (as YOU could also do...) course PAY the BHPA several hundred pounds to get SOME of that information..... However in aviation most (i.e. the ones involving flying rather than say a prop strike while taxing) FAI's to be complete would require all the relevant Aviation MET reports, which as I previously mentioned currently cost over £400 to obtain the MET Office used to provide me copies, with the added assistance of the RAF) FOC

  • @murrayhay No body is asking you launch an enquiry let alone spend your cash.

Dates and locations would suffice, links to media reports would help I am sure.

    Have a nice days flying

  • Also don't forget as I do NOT find it either Legally or Morally acceptable to fund those that CHOOSE to Injure & Kill UK PG pilots I'm NOT a member of the BHPA.... of course even BHPA members HAVE to PAY the BHPA if they wish copies of the information you asked me to provide FOC to you!

A couple of things have been made VERY clear over the last 20 years: 1st the BHPA keeps REDUCING training requirements! (i.e. TWENTY Min Airtime CP rated 'pilots'!) The BHPA WILL maintain their accident rates!

  • @murrayhay still no word back from you about these alleged 7 incidents in 2009.

There were 2 at Long Mynd mid air collision, subsequent deaths from sustained injuries.

1 at Corndon pilot lost control of glider, death from injuries sustained.

Awaith the details of the 4 other tragic incidents.

  • Scot Mathers/paraglenner I'm sure being judged by you as only 'alleged deaths' will be of ZERO comfort to the bereaved families..... Tragic, clearly, but inevitable... clearly YES! As long as those like you CHOOSE to fund the BHPA Ltd. (assets approx £500,000, turnover P/A similar.. turnover of members 33% every 2 yrs... mainly due to the accident, injury & death rates...)

As I've pointed out any of those that FUND the BHPA can simply ask them 'How many died' you MAY even get an honest answer!

  • @murrayhay the thing is Murray, if YOU make a claim then YOU should back it up with facts. The 3 incidents that I highlighted didn't cost a penny to find out about. If YOU know that there were seven incidents involving BHPA members as you claim then I am sure you could get the details as easily as the 3 that I have mentioned.

After all the AAIB puts out information about reported incidents to try and reduce them and improve practice of all aircraft operators.

  • Eh NO! The BHPA (a Limited Company you choose to fund) did not 'claim' rather they STATED that they had had seven members die in 2009!

Note: The AAIB in fact does NOT put out information about all PG deaths, rather as you correctly stated they issue (in their name, but often have nothing to do with the 'report') on REPORTED deaths (hence not the un-reported deaths)

The last 20 years have CLEARLY shown the BHPA Ltd have no intention of cutting out INSTRUCTION accidents, injuries & deaths!

  • Death/Serious Injury is 'natures' (Physics) way of telling paraglider pilots it's 20 years past the time they should have stopped funding a bunch of incompetents that make up the BHPA!

I can't help wondering if it wasn't for the considerable sums of money involved, year in year out, (and liablity issues from the last 20 years!) if the BHPA WOULD be prepared to slash their accident rates?

  • PS I see they have just had another (HG) death... I've had BHPA HG pilots come out with me in the past for re-training... And based on what I observed/was told by them, the HG training is almost as bad (poor standards) as BHPA PG training.... One HG pilot who stood out as VERY shocked as to how dangerous his 'BHPA turns' were could not believe (on re-viewing the pics shot from above his wing) just how CLOSE he was to spinning (asymmetric stall) on EVERY turn as clearly indicated on top surface!

  • Quote: The producer of the "dross?" video has got a bit upset... ??

Well of course BHPA Injuries & Death's ARE 'upsetting'!

Quote: perhaps he should look at videos from this chap to see what quality control and editing is about. (flykar57) About the best that can be said is Nice Sunny Day... Poor launch, BAD landing.. so so filming.. Music comes down to personal preferences, for 2nd watching I hit Mute which improved things :-)

NOTE: Snowshoes (as seen in my Vids) are advised :-)

  • For those who ARE intrested in cutting the appaling accident, injury & death rate that results from BHPA 'training' THINK long and hard about the comment in Skywings Dec 2009 from the then LLSC Seniour Coach:

'Unless we SIGNIFICANTLY change our approach to the sport the (BHPA) accident, injury & death rates will NOT change'

Well the FACT is that a Significant Alternative to DANGEROUS BHPA 'training' HAS been avaliable since '97... which is why 75% of my students are RE-training ex-bhpa pilots!

  • Scott, regarding the rating that (in my opinion)... well that depends on why it is watched... for 'Artistic' (senic/flying etc.) clearly as 1 (or perhaps 2..)

For CONTENT (to the many pilots from across the world who ASK me to add more videos with 'voice over' live chat of Safety Procedures/Ground Handling/Launch & Landing procedures and checks THEN it clearly would (by those pilots) rate a 3-4-5 star range.

Hence overall prob get a 2-3 rating.

PS YOUR 'Poss Dross' clip I gave a + rating (4*)

  • 'Nice' to see 'Cosmic Rough Rider' / Scott Mather....

....well known for his habit or spreading lies about any Instructor who has the guts to dare to point out that the incompetent and clearly dangerous training/coaching from BHPA 'instructors' and 'coaches' (who keep KILLING and INJURING a LOT of UK 'pilots') has linked this video on PG Forum as 'Dross?'

So Scott with SEVEN BHPA DEATHS (as well as LOTs of injuries) in 2009 do you think it's time they answered in court for their actions?

  • @murrayhay isn't there something ironic about choosing when to lift your censorship?

So you don't like the fact that I described this video as "dross?" in context of 5 years of youtube. I know you posted it but what would you have starred it on the previous star system? 1...,3... or even a 5?

As for the other bit well I have yet to see a BHPA school instructor kill a student. I have seen reports of accidents involving students under instructiion. Ranging from bruising to broken legs.

  • Ref: Scott Mather/Paraglenner 'isn't there something ironic about choosing when to lift your censorship?'

Gee I wonder if you are refering to my removing/blocking the NUMEROUS 'spoof YouTube accounts' which in the past were clearly set up by those who.. by ATTACKING any who dare to point out just how DANGEROUS the BHPA is....

Dangerous as EVIDENCED by the vast number of Serious Injuries & Deaths resulting from the incompetence of the BHPA 'Instructors' & 'Coaches'!

    PGforum = Censorship!

  • @murrayhay No

  • Scott Mather/Paraglenner quote "No"

Nice and cryptic.... the 'Glass Full' amongst us will of course take this 'No' to mean that Scott has finally decided that 'YES' the BHPA have injured & killed far too many pilots...

While the Realists among us will take Scott's 'No' to indicate (among other things) that he IS going to keep funding/supporting the BHPA as it keeps needlessly Injuring & Killing PG pilots... Mind you perhaps Scott 'thinks' 30 mins airtime IS a 'good standard' for CP training!

  • Scott Mather Quote 'I have yet to see'

Try opening your eyes! AFAIK One of the SEVEN BHPA deaths in 2009 was under CP BHPA 'Instruction'

WHY DO YOU WANT TO HELP THE BHPA KILL & INJURE YET MORE PEOPLE?????

REMEMBER I've PROVED, again & again since '97 that it is EASY to SLASH PG accidernt rates! Just AVOID dangerous bhpa 'training' at 'schools' that for £1,300 will 'give' a CP to 'pilots' with UNDER 1hr flying!
