never played Sonic CD(Wish I could) can someone explain BOTH endings to me?

@Skunxful The short answer is that in the bad ending Robotnik/Eggman retains one of the Chaos Emeralds and flies away with it. Sonic throws a rock at absurd velocity, which hits his flying vehicle and explodes it into a dust cloud resembling the Dr's face. In this good ending, Sonic has all of the emeralds and can release all of the energy contained in the Dr's (presumably) artificial planet. Getting all of the emeralds also gets you the "good" version of the future, not the destroyed version

I stumbled on this video and it took me back. When I watched this video for the first time in 1993 on Christmas Day (got it on my b-day, the 23rd), I thought to myself, "this is the future of gaming." I just turned thirteen and had a much deeper connection to video gaming as I watched a wonderfully vivid animated blue hero came to life beyond a two and semi third demential medium. This is what Sonic the Hedgehog was really supposed to be.
