  • "Jez San of Argonaut Software"

    Clever.

  • hear intro

    switch game

  • It even came with a novel in the gamebox. The game was somewhat average.

  • @LeopardFixJeopardy Yea the game was shit, Elite was good on the ST and Dungeon Master was the best game ever! The Sentinel was pretty good, Archipelagos that was good. In fact there was loads of good games thinking about it. Stunt car racer, Guild of Thieves, Monkey Island, damn I need to buy an ST!

  • The most epic intro for one very average and boring game! That music must have been 3/4 of the diskette.

  • I guess this little intro filled about half of the total space avaible on a 770kb disk

  • I love it! Thanx for the video! (although the game itself kinda sucked)

  • @KhalidNbg

The game was pretty good, certainly for the time.

  • anyone know who composed this? was it Dave Lowe?

  • This literally made my week. I've searched unsuccessfully for this theme tune sporadically over the years and now that I've found it I'm totally making it my ring tone. Thanks so much for uploading this!

  • Never figured out what I had to do in this game :P

Like flying around and shooting things though :)

    Out.

  • loved this, hopefully not the same dave lowe that did the one show theme??

  • P.S Im sure the amiga could do this to right ?

  • @janmansde3dede Oh, the amiga version had it to, but not as theme song.

  • @janmansde3dede

The Amiga and ST both had it play during loading.

  • Best intro song ever OMGFTWROFLCOPTERBBQ!!!!!!!!!!! (I love this and had it on Amigo over 20 years ago)

  • One of the best games (in my opinion) along with Starglider 2 on Atari ST. I loved them.

  • just made this a ring tone, classic

  • My friend and I genuinely thought this said "Star Glider...he's a raper, raper, raper!" when we were, like, 11 years old.

  • Brilliant, I remember this! Best song ever!!!

  • havent heard this for 20 years........thanks for posting!

other games i had on the st at that time were 'beyond the ice palace' and 'ikari warriors'....ahh..those were the days......

  • Oh wow yep, I remember first seeing this game on the saturday morning show Get Fresh with Gaz Top and Gilbert the snotty alien. I think it replaced Xenon as a quick shootemup competition for kids.

I loved how smooth the graphics ran. All other 3D games at the time were kind of stuck at 4 frames per second so this one soon became a fave to play.

  • In the eighties I remember my best mate coming up to me and saying "Hey "MrHeineken32"! I've got a new game on my Atari that goes "STAAAAAARGLIIIDER!!".

  • star rapist?

  • @HeliosCore

glad i'm not the only one that can hear it.

  • @HeliosCore star-rainbird

  • sounds like the great ULTRAVOX......:)

  • I remember seeing this game back in 1986 in a computer store in Ottawa. I went with my dad to pick the game up and the guy showed us the game on a demo computer he had. Both my dad and I thought the music was coming from a radio at first because sound like this was something new from a computer lol. Brings back some good memories.

    Cheers!

  • the intro is so f*cking fat you expect a real epic game, and then when u start playing it...ugh. but hey, I guess all those games are ugh nowadays :)

  • ♫♪ Star-Glider....

    from Rainbird, Rainbird, Rainbird ♪♫

  • @gumdeo

i had this on the atari ST 20 years ago..i understood the 'starglider' bit but not the rest. after 20 years i finally know now.....thanks, man! :(

  • This sort of music was beyond the times back then. Remember that not even technotronic existed and this song was very electronic, over elaborated and with human voices and a delay effect!

  • OMG! Hearing that just took me back!!! Like a lot of you, I remember being blown away by that tune!

  • Brilliant! I would load this up just to hear this song!

  • It is nice to see all these old screens and sounds again.

  • I had this on the Spectrum and it came with a music cassette containing 2 sides of a much longer rendition of this intro. I seem to remember it had a girl and a guy singing in it too. Sadly, you can't find the tapes anymore for love nor money - if anyone has it still, please mp3 it and get it on here! It sounded great!

  • Maybe you've already found it, but you can download the tape music from a site called "UnExotica".

  • I remember how fascinated I was when I heard that HUMAN voice out of my ATARI 1040STFM ^^.

    Yeah... childhood...

  • @No1BRC We are two that loved our atari st's out of our minds :D

  • I was about 15 or so when I got my hands on a spanking brand new 1040STf. These were probably the best times of my life, as far as computers are concerned. Good old days.

  • I hear ya. man...think I was 19 when I got my 1040ST, and just could not believe the graphics and sound after having an 800XL for so many years. Good times.

  • @dvamateur

Yes indeed. Kids are so bloody blase these days about the next gen of consoles that come out, but the ST and Amiga were a whole new world, a quantum leap from the machines that had come before. Full WIMP environments, viable 3D processing, hundreds of colours, and thousands of enthusiasts building games and other applications for them as one- or two-man teams. Great days.

  • does anybody know the goal of the game ... hs it one? lvls?

  • @r8qt7

I actually can't remember if the game ever ended. I know you could destroy the starglider flagship, but I think the game just kept going after that. (?) Essentially you were trying to keep your fighter craft in the field, stealing energy from the energy lines, rearming at bases, fighting off the various enemies on the ground and in the air. It was actually pretty fun as a 3D vector combat game. A lot like the arcade Star Wars game, but with greater depth and variety.

  • Oh man, that is one helluva blast from the past! Someone needs to release all these old Atari ST tunes in an album or something! Geekin' out.

  • That's interesting, I keep telling my dad he should put all the tunes he did up on iTunes but he wasn't sure if it was worth the effort of hunting all the DATS out of the loft or if anyone would be bothered to hear them let alone buy them.

Personally I think they would. Maybe we could start a petition to make him do it! Or maybe I'll make him make it into an album on CD or something. Hmmm...

email me: hollyjazzlowe at gmail if you think its a good idea!

  • jesus i was like 4 when palyed this

  • far out.. memories..

  • Please give me a link for just a loop of this song... PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • Hell ... I was young in that days ...

  • sweet years

  • Gosh my dad (Dave Lowe) did the music to this and it just brings back my childhood of hearing it blasting out of his little studio all day! Good times!!

  • lol its very intesting read that, its a great track, im try to learn on piano but i cant hear the back strings very well in the minute 0:10 :P

  • lol i made it :D

  • At that time games were all original concepts, and you could be left wondering what on earth you were supposed to do, it didn't prevent you from experimenting and being fascinated.

  • I remember this intro SO WELL! A friend of mine, when I loaded the game to show him, thought the radio had just gone off.

  • "Rainbird, Rainbird, Rainbird, Rainbird...!"

  • Anyone know the name of the band that made the music to this intro?

  • My dad DAve Lowe did the music to this and a bunch of other games around that time. He worked under the name UNCLE ART. It was just him though, and sometimes he got my mum to speak... I think there's some point where they're saying "Starglider" over and over..! Takes me back to me childhood. xx

  • Talk about bringing back memories. Okay, that name does ring a bell. He did the music to IK+ and Afterburner as well. Damn. Almost up there with Rob Hubbard, Jochen Hippel, Chris Hulsbeck, and the like. These guys will not be forgotten!

  • Your dad did the music to Starglider? Tell him he's my HERO.

  • great ...

  • Classic! I remember I used to load this game up just to hear the song sometimes! Ha ha!

  • This was the second game I ever got for my Atari ST

  • I wonder what that would sound like backwards?

  • Starglider2 had the awesome audio tape music.

  • As did Federation of Free Traders.

  • What an excellent Music for a Game!!

    Long Lived the ATARI-Time

  • This was great! :)

  • Damned - thats a long time ago (also worked on monochrom). Does somebody has a plan how you can complete it?

  • I've never got very far in it, but the most important thing to learn is how to recharge your ship - see my video.

  • Man, this song is now stuck in my head for some odd reason...

  • This song has been stuck in my head for like 18 years.

Every time I think of the Atari ST, this song pops directly into my head. Good times back in the day.

  • lol I had this game... but it always crashed in the middle of the intro song :_)

  • i prefer the speccy128 version :-)

  • Ha! I wanted to buy the full song when I heard this on Amiga for the first time. Lookout OMD, step aside Talking Heads...good ole game electronica...

  • great simple game but highly addictive! on my Amiga 1000 the sample tune only played once during loading. The title screen had some naff synth music instead....

  • man i miss these games, no matter how unbearably hard they were to work out.

    !!!LONG LIVE THE AMIGA 500!!!!

  • Oh my god that is fantastic. The PC version had the same titlescreen, but horribly degraded for the 4-color CGA screen. It certainly didn't have the awesome 80s-tastic music, though.

  • This is all I ever saw from this game! Unfortunately, the game would crash after the intro.

  • this really brings back memories. i remember trying to convince my aunt that i created the music for it.

  • RIP Argonaut Software/Argonaut Games!
