ive personally found the pop can shims to work more fast , but obviously they arnt very durable - 3-5 uses max but you can make around 15 from 1 can

this method dont work whit the european lock and many padlock dont have enough space to insert the shims....

I don't live in the UK. And shimming only works i cheep locks that don't use the ball barring locking system, If that's what you mean.

You are never actuating the locking arm. You are covering up the groove on the shackle so you can bypass the arm.
