Beautifully photographed landmark documentary. There's a great shot of a MASSIVE blood-red sunset and bloodied blue seawater. I was so glad that this finally came out on DVD with a flawless 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer from the restored 2-perf Techniscope negative.
I saw this at the drive-in back in 1977 at the age of 9 on a triple bill with - I kid you not - Disney's "The Littlest Horse Thieves" and "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh."
Saw this when i was 8, 1976, up at The George in Barrhead. Must've been re- released due to Jaws.

Thanks for this post. I saw this in the early 1970's and could not remember anything about it except for the name of the movie.
Now I know why The Life Aquatic seemed so familiar.
