@kasuskasus Yeah man, that album's great... and the sweet thing is Kranky has reissued it on Vinyl. Have you checked out the offshoots from SOTL? Have you heard A Winged Victory for the Sullen yet? Dustin O'halleran, Celler are a great listen too, and you mite also like Hauschka. Check out his piece called Ping.
@kasuskasus Sorry I'm a bit late but you'd be doing yourself a huge faver if you peaped Stars of the Lid, especially their two latest albums, The Tired sounds of... and ... And Their Refinement of the decline. Then work your way back to their more spacerock influenced material from the 90s. All of the ofshoots from SOTL are worth your time as well if you dig their ambients.
@machinevsfascist Hey, man. Stars of the Lid have been one of my absolute top bands for many, many years now. Avec Laudenum is my personal favourites, but they're all magnificent.
Thanks everyone for your excellent recommendations! I check them all out, and have found a lot of new great bands from your suggestions. Cheers!
When I listen to this I picture floating on a calm ocean at night just stargazing without a care in the world. This is why ambient music is so amazing.
It's crazy how this song can inspire so much emotion and memories. Music like this is a blessing. It allows people to FLOAT in their own minds and release all the superficial junk that bogs down their life. Just for the moment the song is playing you can feel truly weightless and free.
@sunslastphase I was driving through a gulley this afternoon towards a beautiful sunset while listening to this song and felt exactly how you described here. Thank you for putting it into words :)
@Skoople88 my pleasure. I just came back and saw youtube decided to post my comment 50 times lol! Anyways, when i heard this song, those thoughts just poured out of me - it is an incredibly inspiring piece of music.
@sunslastphase It's strange, so many times I've felt like this when looking across a vast expanding landscape or natural vista. This music is profound beyond words. Truth is this music lets people escape from so much superficial clutter in their minds and just experience this moment for what it truly is, an all-encompassing gift that keeps on giving.
OMG i have had their music since 2006!!! and they dont have this album on iTunes. They have their newer music. they need to publish this album on iTunes like...now.
Hammock are my personal favourite, TWDY being my more 'rocky' post-rock preference. Hell I just love Hammock though, the most aptly named band to ever exist..
well It´s up to your taste I think, If you like to more shoegazer stuff then I´d say check out Auburn Lull, July Skies, A Shoreline Dream, Mahogany etc, and If you like it more like the whole post rock thing, I´d recommend Daturah, Yndi Halda, Balmorhea and so on, hope you´ll like it
In terms of Hammock, I would say Eluvium is close and very good. In terms of post rock, I don't believe it gets any better than Explosions in the Sky; but like destructionblade said, its ultimately down to your taste.
Thanks! To narrow it down, what are the better Eluvium albums in your opinion? Some I've heard are so-so, others, like Accidental Memory... is really nice.
Accidental Memory is quite unique because it's his only all-piano album. He's really made his name as a result of his more ambient material such as his albums "Copia" and "Talk Amongst the Trees." It's hard to pick which one is beter. Copia may be a bit more varied but Talk is unbelievable at times. To be honest my favorite Eluvium album is actually "When I Live by the Garden & Sea". It starts out with some nice piano and goes into some amazing ambient tracks.
@kasuskasus Jakob, Immanu El, Eluvium, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky, The Ascent of Everest, Red Sparowes, If These Trees Could Talk...
@kasuskasus July Skies, Stars of the Lid, Eluvium, The American Dollar, Rest, Destroyalldreamers, Au4, Common Children, Amman.Josh, Library Tapes, Gregor Samsa, Dreamend, Yellow6, Lights Out Asia, Byla, Osakan, Slow Dancing Society, 1 Mile North, Paik, Aarktica, lowercase noises, 33.3, See You In October, Flux Pavilion, Caspian, Joy Wants Eternity, port-royal, Explosions in the Sky, Balmorhea, Giants, Russian Circles, Lungfish, Amusement Parks on Fire, Mogwai, Tycho, Boards of Canada, etc.
I've been wondering whether there's another group in the same league as Sigur Ros - this group comes close! They are also similar to a group called "Rachel's".
i hard suggest to watch sigur ros - E Bow

The lyris are so sad, yet so true. The instrumental just conveys this feeling so well... This band is amazing.

On a cold night
We lay down
Under starlight
We breakdown
Spend our whole life
Seeking shelter
Til the last time,
Gone forever...
