The fact that Aerith's hand reaches for Cloud right before revealing itself to really be Tifa's hand reaching for him, can actually be interpreted to mean that Aerith is showing him the way to Tifa's heart - she's encouraging him to find happiness (with Tifa). Hence Tifa and Cloud go together, hand in hand, to find happiness - it's all very symbolic :)

It could also be possible that Cloud was looking for Aerith and that's the reason why Aerith's song was playing while the hand was reaching. This scene can be seen in so many ways... This scene proved to me that Cloud loved Aerith, because he sees her hand in his heart, and then after he saves Tifa he thinks of searching for Aerith. The way Tifa smiles... it seems to me like she's sad, but trying to support Cloud's desire to find Aerith. In Advent Children and Case of Tifa he finally forgives himself and can move on, and love Tifa the way she loves him. I think both couples are beautiful ^_^

@MatthewESims Yes, however the ring is on the wrong hand. Wedding rings are always on the left hand, but hers is on the right. You wear the ring on the right hand if 1) you're divorced 2) it's just an accesory. Meaning: perhaps they were married or engaged, but they weren't during the movie.

Maybe it is the left hand, or not a ring at all that symbolizes marriage (For instance in FF13 a necklace can symbolize engagement). Cloud and Tifa are shown to have a relationship, they do raise two orphans together, however rather or not it is as big as we think is unknown, but it is possible that it could be someday.

Cloud is not a clone. The word "clone" was pretty much a mistranslation anyway - a better word would be "host".

im just gonna put my two cents in i always thought clouds feelings for aeris were because of the stories zack told him about her when he was in his coma state and his subconcious retained the memories and developed feelings for it, as for tifa i think he loved her more because he tried so hard to get her attention when they were kids by acting tough and getting into fights plus tried to join SOLDIER to impress her, and i dont think he'd do all that just to be her friend, thats just my theory

The creators listed Cloud and Aerith as well. They mentioned that BOTH the Highwind scene and the Golden saucer date are optional scenes where different events can unfold. However, they've actually confirmed the Cleris date as being default...which is more than what they've done for the Cloud/Tifa pairing. Take that as you will.

Fact: this highwind scene was meant to be more mature. Cloud was meant to be seen coming out of the Chocobo stables with messed hair and Tifa was meant to come out fixing her skirt, but then they felt it was a bit too 'mature' so they changed it to fade black. In the ultimania (official SE) books, the character profiles state that cloud and tifa came to realize there feelings 4 each other in the highwind scene and are living together 3 years afterward and are still 2gether in DoC.
Furthermore, the reason Aerith keeps appearing and so on is because Cloud feels completely responsible for her death. It's more of a deep love for a friend, and Aerith is obviously a very important person to him (so is Zack) but it's not to the level of him and Tifa which is genuine romance love. If you felt responsible for a friends death, wouldn't you keep thinking of them? ANYWAY Aerith is dead, people have to move on. After Advent Children Cloud moved on, so he's with Tifa.

I changed my mind because I now think this whole Tifa-Aerith-Cloud debate is just stupid. Cloud didn't know who Aerith was when he met her so I don't get how people are saying his feelings developed for Aerith through memories from Zack. There's no evidence that Zack passed any memories onto Cloud, merely that Cloud was also present during the Nibelheim event and got his role mixed up with Zack's. And really, Cloud's crush on Tifa(all the boys crushed on her) was from afar. He was just a kid. It's not Aerith's fault if Cloud grows up and feels differently.
The Japanese word used between Cloud and Aerith is "koibito", a word that can only mean something romantic in nature. Your mother/sister/friend cannot be your koibito. The same word was used for Tifa, however, SE mentioned that Tifa has many dimensions to her character and that it ranges from that of a mother, to an ally, to a koibito(lover). Her character is versatile and whatever she is depends on player choice, apparent by the fact that there were two Highwind scenes.

Yes, the word koibito was used with Tifa too. They translated it as "sweetheart" just like how someone translated Aerith's as "beloved", but it's the same word. We know it doesn't involve johnny because the word can only be used between two people who love each other. Tifa doesn't love Johnny, only Cloud. Like I said though, SE said that her character is versatile so Tifa doesn't have to be a koibito. She can be like a mother or an ally in battle instead. Optional.
"moving on" can simply mean getting over the grief of your beloved's death. It doesn't mean you have to go bang anyone. FFVII's theme is 'life'. Aerith isn't truly gone and is still by Cloud's side as shown in Advent Children. She's a cetra. She doesn't go to sleep like how Zack has to. That's the difference there, buddy. And whether Cloud feels guilty about Aerith's death or not, bottom line is, Cloud's Promised Land is about meeting Aerith again...not about Tifa.

I love this ending scene. <3 Cloud finally gets to see Aeris again and realizes that this won't be last time either. She'll always be with him, and one day they'll be reunited in the lifestream.

that's why the compilation doesn't make any sense and ruin this perfect ending, cloud really wishes to be with aerith and if we account the last time aerith is seen in the ending, as if she awakens, it's a a hint that both will meet again =D
Im twelve and I get choked up during this seen and when Aerith died well the first time I saw Aerith die I was like Yeeeeeeeeeeesssss! but on my second playthrough I was like AWWW thats really sad Aerith was so perky and happy but now she will never cry, never laugh, never speak....

Maybe they didn't get together, but I think the fact that they even focused on it (if only for a second) kinda shows they are more than close friends.

I don't think so? Cloud and Tifa are lovers after the game, they drift apart up until Advent Children then they become closer again...of course it's not easy for him to forget Aerith, but neither is it for him to forget Zack :/

And in the lifestream he said: i think i can meet her there". And Aerith is often shown in his dreams or visions. more than zack :'( he really does love aerith truly. clud loves aerith even after her death. >.<

Fact: this highwind scene was meant to be more mature. Cloud was meant to be seen coming out of the Chocobo stables with messed hair and Tifa was meant to come out fixing her skirt, but then they felt it was a bit too 'mature' so they changed it to fade black. In the ultimania (official SE) books, the character profiles state that cloud and tifa came to realize there feelings 4 each other in the highwind scene and are living together 3 years afterward and are still 2gether in DoC.

Furthermore, the reason Aerith keeps appearing and so on is because Cloud feels completely responsible for her death. It's more of a deep love for a friend, and Aerith is obviously a very important person to him (so is Zack) but it's not to the level of him and Tifa which is genuine romance love. If you felt responsible for a friends death, wouldn't you keep thinking of them? ANYWAY Aerith is dead, people have to move on. After Advent Children Cloud moved on, so he's with Tifa.

I changed my mind because I now think this whole Tifa-Aerith-Cloud debate is just stupid. And the fact that the creators themselves can't just end the whole thing and say "CLOUD LOVED (name) ROMANTICALLY AND NOT (name). END OF DISCUSSION." because face it, everyone is too stubborn to believe whatever 'truth' they've HINTED or subtly IMPLIED, they should just say it straight. Just aerith says that cloud is her beloved. and her and clouds bond is different than tifas. and that makes tifa jealous. So i think that in this part "beloved" means "theyre loving each other like wife and husband". and tifa is just like a mother to cloud :'(

Besides i never really liked aerith because cloud liked tifa first so aerith is sorta like a b*tch. AND clouds feelings for aeris were because of the stories zack told him about her when he was in his coma state and his subconcious retained the memories and developed feelings for it.

Cloud didn't know who Aerith was when he met her so I don't get how people are saying his feelings developed for Aerith through memories from Zack. There's no evidence that Zack passed any memories onto Cloud, merely that Cloud was also present during the Nibelheim event and got his role mixed up with Zack's. And really, Cloud's crush on Tifa(all the boys crushed on her) was from afar. He was just a kid. It's not Aerith's fault if Cloud grows up and feels differently.

The Japanese word used between Cloud and Aerith is "koibito", a word that can only mean something romantic in nature. Your mother/sister/friend cannot be your koibito. The same word was used for Tifa, however, SE mentioned that Tifa has many dimensions to her character and that it ranges from that of a mother, to an ally, to a koibito(lover). Her character is versatile and whatever she is depends on player choice, apparent by the fact that there were two Highwind scenes.

Yes, the word koibito was used with Tifa too. They translated it as "sweetheart" just like how someone translated Aerith's as "beloved", but it's the same word. We know it doesn't involve johnny because the word can only be used between two people who love each other. Tifa doesn't love Johnny, only Cloud. Like I said though, SE said that her character is versatile so Tifa doesn't have to be a koibito. She can be like a mother or an ally in battle instead. Optional.

"moving on" can simply mean getting over the grief of your beloved's death. It doesn't mean you have to go bang anyone. FFVII's theme is 'life'. Aerith isn't truly gone and is still by Cloud's side as shown in Advent Children. She's a cetra. She doesn't go to sleep like how Zack has to. That's the difference there, buddy. And whether Cloud feels guilty about Aerith's death or not, bottom line is, Cloud's Promised Land is about meeting Aerith again...not about Tifa.

I love this ending scene. <3 Cloud finally gets to see Aeris again and realizes that this won't be last time either. She'll always be with him, and one day they'll be reunited in the lifestream.

Im twelve and I get choked up during this seen and when Aerith died well the first time I saw Aerith die I was like Yeeeeeeeeeeesssss! but on my second playthrough I was like AWWW thats really sad Aerith was so perky and happy but now she will never cry, never laugh, never speak....
