In fact there were THREE RAF squadrons in WW2 that were made up of US citizen volunteer pilots. They wore RAF uniforms and RAF pilot's wings, but had a USA shoulder flash on their uniforms. After the US finally joined the fight in Decmber 1841, they were given the choice to transfer to the USAAF, or stay in the RAF. Some did some didn't.
Its called Eagle Sqaudron, writen in honour of Americans who joined the Royal Air Force to fight Hitler before the US come into the war in 41. Some stayed in the RAF and some transphered over to the US air force. All bloody heroes in my book.
Spectacular. I've had the good fortune to see all of this first hand. I just have one question maybe somebody can answer, and no I am not trying to be negative. Does anybody know what the march starting at about 4:25 is? I swear it is from a Hollywood film. Still, a great piece of music. I'm American, but my grandfather served in the British military. This makes me think of him. Thanks for posting this.
you might be interested to know the march eagle squadron by major ricketts R.M (kenneth alford) was written for a squadron made up of american airmen who voulentered to serve with the royal air force, prior to the U.S entering the war.
No other country can put on a show or spectacle like the British can do. Royal Weddings, State Funerals, Coronations, to Trooping the Colour and Remembrance Day. All that pomp and grandeur seeing the Royal Family, the military soldiers and musical bands. They march in such precision. Pretty horses too. It makes me jealous.
i think the Queen and Prince Philip, despite all their trials and tribulations, have always represented the very best of the British character.Whatever money it costs to maintain the Royal Family is an investment in ourselves.
It is.. but its not because they dont feel the need, but from safety reasons.. today's situation requires the police to have their full attention to the public...
There is a video of the Irish Guards marching in London with their pipes and drums, on youtube, where a Policeman salutes the Colour as it passes. Maybe he is ex-military, but it was nice to see!
Why can people like yourself never stop making silly, puerile comments like the one above as to who is or isn't giving salutes, facing in the right direction, has their shoes perfectly polished, etc. Just be thankful that we have these great traditions and songs in the first place.
I was merely making an observation and it wasn't my intention to make a direct criticism. Of course, all that really matters is that the men in the parade are on good form. The parade is wonderful and I am of course thankful for it.
I agree with you, it annoys me when people make negative comments, especially when it is off on a tangent, like mine. How hypocritical of me.
Well that was all very colourful - though no doubt some miserable sod of a politician will want to abolish it as being too expensive. It must cost oooooooooo, thousands. Pity the politicians aren't so keen on cutting back on there own salaries and expenses or on spending billions on the Millenium Dome, the Olympics etc etc. If they were they could save some REAL money. Anyway,
rant over - thank you for reading lol. I'll go back to sleep now.
As a true "new elizabethan" Briton, (born in the coronation year), as a mark of respect to the oldest ever British monarch, I have to say god bless you my sovereign lady...
It's not all it's cracked-up to be...my military band just gets in the way when going to the shops, in the pub, washing the car. A pain in the rear... ;-)
Thank you for this great video - I am a Londoner living in the US and it allowed me to share a glimpse of Great Britain with my young children and a glimpse of a Grandfather, now long gone, who served with 1st Life Guards at Ypres, Arras and in London 1914+.
Though I understand you complaint about the American dialect; American spelled with a capital A by the way. Make no mistake about it we are not lazy. We love our older brothers across the pond, hence why we saved your ass during WWII. If you are going to insult our writting skills, could you at the very least use proper punctuation next time. Good greif, now who's lazy.
who did you save in WW2? you joined the war 3 years later, and by then the Bsttle of Britain was over. I dont remember a single german soldier setting foot on British soil in either WW1 or WW2. You merely HELPED us FREE the REST of Europe, thats all. Get your facts straight, you illiterate yank peasant.
this is a great little video, looks like the household division are returning back to barracks from the trooping. Sadly i think some of the young guardsmen and cavelry are no longer with us (Apghanistan, Iraq)god bless freedom
I am an American of British and German ancestry. My British forebears arrived in Maryland in 1648. Makes me proud to watch this video and yes...I even got a lump in my chest and a tear in my eye. Must be some latent DNA from several centuries ago.
I personaly don't like the american way of spelling i don't know why they had to change it from British english. Maybe it's because they're just too lazy.
Always remember, the guards are allowed to move, i know several who have punished mainly american tourists who think they cannot, so beware, they will have you if you get too close!
I`m a monarchist since the Queen's visit to Germany in 1978. It made a deep and lasting impression on me and it turned out that this moment would quite literally change my life. Ever since then, I have been fascinated by everything connected with Great Britain, especially Her Majesty.
Over the past 50 years she has been, and still remains, the best advertisement for her country.I hope the people of the UK preserve this unique and fine institution for the future. Support the Queen!
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on regimental uniforms through the ages. It includes the Royal Horse Guards and many other regiments.
I'm planning to go to this year's Trooping to film it and photograph it again, hopefully from a better angle. I don't suppose you're able to give a wave to the camera are you? lol

One of the troopers in the last rank of Life Guards seems to have lost his helmet.
I bet he subsequently spent a few days on his knees cleaning the barracks square with his toothbrush :-D

Isn't it sad that policemen or women no longer feel the need to salute to the monarch or members of the armed forces on parade.
Or for that matter, to passing funeral processions.
01MarchHare 3 years ago
It is.. but its not because they dont feel the need, but from safety reasons.. today's situation requires the police to have their full attention to the public...

Yes that is the reason..you still see senior ranks of the police force salute the Monarch on official occasions.
