  • he is a great drummer, but i think if he was a bar of chocolate i think he would eat himself.

  • brain has the best single bass pedal technique i've seen from a drummer.

he can add 3 16th's in succession just like that, very inspiring to learn from.

  • i think hes one of the best and a nice guy too

  • Crazy drummer. Hes able to make simple meters sound like something never heard before like in the vidoe he started off with a 2/4 beat then built it up with fills and what not. That's a real drummer

  • SHREDDING REPPIS ON THE GNARR GNARR RAD!!!! The only tutorial video ever released that is worth watching! Every other vid is some cheese fest with a billion cymbals and some arse toucher accompanying on a 6 string bass.Brain is a funk demon with no faff and all style.

  • That's what you get for having Buckethead as your best friend, and vice versa:)

  • anyone know what high hat he's using during the examples? it's got such an ear stabbing tightness to it, but it's a good stabbing feeling.

  • @3ucketheadJuggal0

I think they look like 13" Dyno Beats but i'm not sure.

  • what's up with good drummers and underwear?

  • that boy been to DC a few times. Play that funky music white boy!

  • Go go Brian!!! Go go!!!

  • by adding some 16th note triplets to the bass drum you can give the gogo beat a more shit feel.

  • fantastic drumming!! AAAAAAAAAAH Brain is the shit!!!!

beginning on that building top kinda reminds me of a beastie boys joint....

  • Funkiest shit I ever heard in mah Life@!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy can FUCKEN GROOVE

  • i got this in 1995 it.he is kinda strange but he knows his stuff is he really gay because he said that at the end

  • хороший бит

  • some more dumb shit

  • whatever style you want to call it, it's dope as shit.

  • man this guy has a killer feel!

  • i died.

  • I don't hear example 4 as being more rock-like at all. That's just the beat from Chuck Brown's We Need Some Money. And in classic go-go, you don't want things to be busy on the drums. All those fills at the beginning of the video - no way. You pull that stuff out on the gig and you're likely to get fired!

  • @dillikins Yeah! That's the "We need some money" beat!!! Only the music is a little bit faster. You catched it!

  • @dillikins I think he's just demonstrating how to incorporate what all the go-go percussionists usually play but how to do it on a drum kit.. He does also explain that on the DVD as well.. Which I think is quite useful if you're in situation where there's no percussionists.. Definitely adds a lot, I used to see Brain play all the time throughout the 90's in various bands, and I can say he's most definitely a "less is more" groove/pocket player and not one to over play.

  • @dillikins And yes that's the classic "We Need Some Money" groove.. Brain used play that song all the time with a band called Curveball.. He's a huge go-go fan.. And I would think his description of this beat being more of a rock-like groove is probably because that kind of kick drum pattern was something that a lot of classic rock drummers from the 60's/70's ala: John Bonham/Ian Paice/Cozy Powell etc.. used to use a lot..

  • By adding some 16th note triplets to the bass drum, you can make it not a go go beat at all.

  • @crohnsappleadams that's definitely 100% Go-Go..

search: "we need some money chuck brown"

  • @crohnsappleadams yeah man you're totally right! i mean, he's playing the exact beat from the chuck brown song " we need some money". and chuck brown is totally NOT go-go. i mean, if he was, he'd probably have some nickname like "the godfather of go go" or whatever. wait a minute......fuck!

  • @flipadiddle Ha.... I have zero recollection of writing that. Yeah, it's definitely a go-go beat. I must have been drinking.

    Still am, actually.

  • why would you put rock in gogo

  • @keython301 Search: "we need some money chuck brown" and that should answer your question.. It seems to work just fine.. :) Enjoy

  • DW five thousand baby.

  • Great groove!

  • Dude, YES everyone should have a conga on their drum kit. It's as pivotal as a cow bell. haha

  • fuck!I just wanted to click on the pause bottom and I accidentally give 2 stars to this video...

He's a great drummer and great musician, great groove, always smiling while playing...and that's VERY important....

  • LOL why can't drummers keep their shirts on?

  • cause their tits sweat to hard

  • this video always pissed me off. I was like i have a DW five thousand. but i could only do heal toe. For anyone doing heal toe, stop. You can get so much more from the ball of the foot to the toe, and it sounds a little different and you can train yourself to get quintuplets by doing the toe to the ball of the foot and rolling a litle further. that ball to toe that hes doing for a solid trip.

  • Where is the cowbell??? :) hehehe

  • Great groove Brain is a rhythmic genius !

  • I'm definitely in love with this hi-hat... :'(

  • hahaha wow fuckign sweet

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • I got to see Brian today. But he didn't play anything :(

He just talked. But it was still cool.

  • where did you see him?

  • At UCSF

  • was he doing a seminar?

  • best thing since chad smith

  • dang, i want to see a duet!

  • brains my favorite lol

  • one of the best drumming videos eva

  • Great drummer! With Charisma!! Unlike all the other nerdy drummers ->> Neil Peart, Steve Gadd, Mike Portney, etc.

haha, go ahead, bash on me

  • i actually agree

  • Yeah, man. You're always gonna get the feel/groove/emotion versus the thechnical/precise/measured way of playing debate but i agree that the former is so much more artistic and expressive. Good on you, soldier. As if Brain can't turn on the technique aswell. Sigh.

  • exactly

  • This Video was on lifeskool on Cablevision a few years ago. I used to sit with my two year old son and watch it. I was trying to instill funkiness in him at an early age. He would be mesmerized watching the vid and get into the groove of the go-go beat. He's six now. He's pretty funky.

  • sto coglione doveva insegnare filosofia all'università?

  • I love your hi hats, I love them. You must tell me what they are, PLEASE.

  • Could be zildjian 14" mastersounds - but i aint sure

  • yep, i have the same hats

    zildjian z custom mastersounds

  • Bryan! You've been in here all day! Bryan! Bryan! Ah, mom i was RIPPIN!

  • Animals should not try to act like people dvd:)

  • From Shreddin Repis on the Gnar Gnar Rad (his DVD)

  • Go Go is a distinct style of beat that grew out of Washington DC. It was used in 70's funk and hip hop in the late 80's and early 90's

As a DC native and a Primus fan, this was great to watch!

  • yeah it's from his dvd. you also get to see him go apeshit on a toy drum set if you get it!

  • i'd fucking love to see that

  • I think its from his dvd?

    i got it from drummerworld

  • awesome...great beat...so where is this from? what is he teaching?

  • he is fucking sick.
