The SLR is honestly a better car. But probably two of the best sounding cars here. I don't know how the SLR V8 gives that resonance like you're hearing a dragster from a mile away. And the gurgling growl of the V12 is really a benchmark sound for me. I don't know any other 12 that sounds as nice. I can't decide which sounds better.

Reading a lot of nonsense here...I'm no expert but here are my thoughts:SL is NO sportscar !Put a SLR vs a SL65 on a racetrack and the sl65 is nowhere to be seen,the SL65 is simply way too heavy at 2400 kg...Then,when they accelerate the SLR pulls away because it's 600 kg lighter than the SL.BUT at top speed, weight is not as important and raw power wins...And because the SLR has a way better downforce, it loses at topspeed.SL65 winner?Don't think so.Lucky for him there weren't any corners...

Oh right. SL is not as powerful it IS more heavy, only thing it has more than SLR is torq (about 90nm) so what is happened. TUNING. You probaply saw SLR's Speedo? Biggest number in that speedmeter is 360 km/h and i think while the video it showed about 270 km/h and SL topseed is limited to 250 km/h. ATLEAST SL's topseed limiter was "knocked out" and i can promise u with 99%insurance that SL WAS TUNED!

hell yea it did...everyone keeps talkin bout the slr's top speed but little do they know that it struggles to get above 200..road and track tested this car in a 0-200 sprint and couldnt get it over 200mph in 2 miles(after getting it to 180 in the 1st mile,it only gained another 18mph in the 2nd mile)..with the governor off the sl65's torque is just too much top end wise for the slr

guys! do not under estimate the raw power of the sl65. yes the slr is quick and lighter and tops out at 208mph but the sl65's top speed without the limiter is roughly 211+ mph. if you combine torque with power you'll notice that the sl65 amg is more powerful than the slr and even though the sl65 is heavier 738 lb ft of torque is enough to push it way past 200mph

In this video the mercedes sl65 limits torque in all gears but the last.

I'm not sure of the exact numbers... But I think in 1-4 gears the torque is limited in the 500's. But in the last gear it unlimits it and unleashes all the torque. The reason for this is to save the transmission.

You can buy a chip that will unlimit the torque.
