Dr.Bukhari - Thanks a million - I had forgotten this song which I heard constantly from a neighbor's gramaphone late at night in Calcutta as a young boy.. Loved it then and love it now - Sahir the great poet of India.

I first listened to the same song in a bbc broad cast in the early 70's perhaps the same year it was recorded as given by Dr. Bukhari. But later I didn't hear any thing by the same singer and given the limits of that time was unable to discus it on a large plate form like the tube. So I forgot the singer, until I listened a ghazal by a singer called Sudha Malhotra and hectically searched the music shops for her album. That was in 80's some year but couldn't get any thing.

Dr.Bhukhari you are doing a great job, you help souls like us to revive the memories from the golden era of music,the era before underworld goons invaded the film industry. We had great film makers like Sohrab Modi,Mehboob Khan,K.Asif,Kamal Amrohi,Guru Dutt,Raaj kapoor and Bimal Roy,so we had great music directors. So it was this nexus which gave us good movies and great music. May god give you Mr.Bukhari many more acive years so that we can see and listen to many more gems.

We often forget to recognize the various instrumentalists accompanying the singers. These often unheralded artistes deserve praise,too. Here the accordionist, the violinist, the harmonium player, and the tabla player are all providing their own melodious yet understated connective phrases to make the gossamer-quality softness of Sudha's voice shine. The more I listen to this lyric the more I am struck by how beautiful those musical bridges between stanzas and the ambient sounds are.

Granted it is different from the original. It is sung more in a ghazal andaz. Look at the expressions, passion,dard, ada, andaz,sensuality - this woman, as the legend goes, inspired Sahir Ludhianvi in composing the famous "Pyar parabas to nahi hain mera lekin phir bhi" (talat in Sone ki Chidiya)

This hoor is like a comet that shows up and faintly shines rarely and only those who are shying away from the brilliance of sun find it very soothing.

Lovehumanity.. this is the song I commented on. It's watered down due to lack of practice from the original. Would appreciate it if someone has "Tum mujhe bhool bhi jao to ye haq hai tumko" with Suman and Mukesh. Another Suman song I like is "Nanhi si pari meri ladli" from Dil Ek Mandir. An oldie I really love is "Salame-hasrat kabool kar lo".

This is the voice that Lata ji muzzled.. with all due respect, Sudha was her only serious competition, and she refused to sing in any film where Sudha also sang. Check out her incredible voice in "Tum mujhe bhool bhi jao to ye haq hai tumko". You guys have no idea who she is!

(Continued) It's well known that Lata muzzled competitors including her own sister Asha, who prevailed only because OP Nayyar decided to teach Lata ji a lesson. Lata ji also had a fight with Rafi (which ironically gave Suman many chances for duets with Rafi) and with one of her main mentors, Jaikishen, which launched Sharda's short-lived but illustrious singing career.
