I never felt this moment as mocking, the beginning for sure, just not the end. Close up of the face at the end I see frustration. They still have a ways to go till they complete the mission. Remember, they're looking to take a man out of war simply because of outside circumstance. And so far (from what I remember, been 6 years) they're losing their own men for a reason they think isn't really justified. "Why risk my life for one man who has free leave of the war?"

He's not even cool" but it's easy to project a lot of things to their expressions and I like your interpretation more. They might be actually even touched by his very personal, individual suffering and feel understanding. I also haven't seen the movie for years, so that makes it even harder

At the Kevin Pollak Show Nathan talked about this shooting and how jetlaged (the set was in London) and super nervous he was. So he couldn't cry, which was all he had to do. He said Steven Spielberg was so relaxed and nice, that at the end he couldn't stop crying.
