Thank you for sharing these tips! It seemed expensive to me at first but I realize from what you shared you find your local markets and make it a part of your shopping routine. Our health is worth the effort, much success to you!
The trouble with swapping ordinary diets for a raw food diet is that is it going from one 'extreme' to the next. Whilst eating raw food is not extreme per se, when you try and go all raw to quickly, then 'fall off', you end up feeling guilty & 'bad' for not sticking to it. This is just another form of self punishment. People...find a way of eating that includes a high amount of fresh fruit and veggies & stick with that. The all or nothing approach just sets you up for failure.
Great video. I hate other videos where they talk about other stuff. But I heard that if you buy frozen fruit from the grocery store it doesn't count as being 100% raw because they flash freeze (blanch). But you can freeze your own fruits and vegetables and that's fine. Have you heard that?
Great videos, thanks fastinggurl31! Just a heads up - the country of origin for many organic foods is China (the most polluted country & doesnt allow foreign inspectors). Whole Foods frozen vegetable line is predominantly from China! Most cheap organic garlic is as well. Not sure about Costco? Mexico & many So. Am. countries bombard their produce with their pesticides! So, go organic for thin skinned stuff, save money with conventional citrus and coconuts. Read your labels everyone!
can you make a vid on how you cook for your hubby, you and the teen! well, i believe the teen went off to college but, still, i want to be raw but, it seems like too much work to make hubby and kids different meals, what do you do? also, bonus question! are you a stay at home mom/wife?
I do love raw food chocolate cake! and raw apple pie! and they are both cheap to make and are good for you :) try them out and let me know what you think:)
Thank you so much for this! I wanted to start eating raw a few years ago and when I researched it a little more, I decided not to because it was SO expensive looking. But I'll be sixteen on Friday, so I can get a job to pay for all this and with these tips, it shouldn't be nearly as stiff budget wise.
If you say it is OK to criticize anyone pushing any kind of diet, which you ARE, face it, then it's OK to get the FACTS. Soy is VERY UNHEALTHY to eat, unless eaten in extremely small quantities, like they do in Asia, where they don't have the kinds of problems that we do with soy.. and we wonder why. Over 85% of soy is GMO - look it up. While you are at it, look at all the documented studies on the health risks associated with soy. It is astounding.
Everyone is a salesperson - whether it be ideas, like mentioned here or teaching your children the value of brushing their teeth, products, or services. Our whole economy runs on sales. David Wolfe is a huge contribution to society, so please don't dis him because he is teaching/selling/sharing. Go after Monsanto, for chrissakes, not DW. No one mentions how minerally depleted a lot of these foods she's talking about are, many of them grown from seeds Monsanto created. Think about it.
The foods I support are ORGANIC foods. I do not support nor would I encourage ANYONE to eat anything derived from GMO food via a Monsanto seed. It is OK to criticize David or any one pushing any type of diet. The truth is you can eat raw & be healthy w/o ingesting pricey super foods on the daily. We need to be careful that we do not exclude those on a tight budget from the benefits of RAW despite their budget. If we do we run the risk of RAW being elitist.
Even if a fruit or vegetable is labelled "organic", there is NO GUARANTEE that it has all the minerals available to it that the soils once had. There is also NO GUARANTEE that it is truly organic, because there are some farms that from the farm itself to the supermarket spray them with chemicals to preserve their integrity, TO SELL THEM at the market.
Certain foods are certainly helpful, but pushing "superfoods" feeds into the concepts we've been trained to believe that there are quick fixes and shortcuts for everything.
Wolfe has a lot to offer, but keep this in mind and don't look for miracle cures.
A really great way to keep your raw food diet on a budget, is to just eat simple. Go to the farmers market or asian markets, shop around. Find out which places have the best deals for what produce. If you stalk up on vegetables and fruits, lots of them, and lots of different varietes, you are going to be able to get a lot of food for your money. As far as fats go, maybe get some avacados, or some flax seeds as she mentioned, and maybe some nuts. but go easy on them. My boyfriend and I spend
maximum $70 on produce in a week. With the addition of a few extra items that we eat, our bill usaully comes out to $55 a week. But we could make it a lot cheaper if we wanted. So it can be very affordable. for us, it is way more affordable than eating cooked foods! I love raw!
I always go to the international market that is close to me and sometimes the health stores however that health store cost a lot. I go to health food stores twice a month.
the 99 cent store in my area carries nice produce. they usually have whats in season but i have gotten tomatoes, bell peppers, mangoes, and cucumbers there. most are 2 for 99 cents. not bad if u are single and eating raw or the only one at home eating raw
iv been raw for two weeks and i have lost 10 lbs!!!! i only excersized a little bit......i start out witha spinach/apple/bannana smothie.....i have always been a vegitarian but my downfall was eating late and eating pasta potatos cheese chips and dips veggie pizza!!! i will only eat raw fruits and veggies.....raw is now a habbit.....yay
Great tips on buying on a budget. However, I think we should ALL try to buy produce from our country. There are so many farmers losing their farms b/c people are buying from other countries. I know it's hard to buy that way all the time, but I think we should all try to make a concious effort at looking at those stickers and seeing where it's from. A&P(waldbaums) will only sell California Garlic. Garlic from China is cheaper, but you need to add more of it to your dish b/c it's not as potent.
Buying local is very important. I think onve some one is libing on a raw fodd thier mids becomes more clear. Transitionf from SAD to RAW is very important and budget is a real issue for some. WHen possiable I always say buy local!
Hi cristina. I am 17 & I have a problem. I was bulimic and it has been a year since my last relapse. Nobody knows about the ED. Nobody. I am positive that it is behind me. The problem is that after all that purging my tooth is aching badly. The rest of my teeth are fine. But my enamel is almost gone. I live with my parents and I know I can go with a dentist and have it fixed, the problem is that my father is a dentist. He never checks me but I am afraid he will. help me! I an really scared.
How do you know he will check you, and if he does, so what?! That SHOULD be a good thing because then he may find out the truth that you have an ED and help you. But not all parents are very good at helping their children when they are in distress-actually many are TERRIBLE at it and sadly that is why their kid has an ED to begin with. So go to the many people who ARE supportive and loving such as the many ED recovery support online communities or get together with a support group in-person.
I liked this video so much, I posted it on my raw food meetup site& my organic produce co-op site.
I don't know if you mentioned sprouting, but you can buy lentils for less than $ 1 lb, which makes heaps of sprouts. Like nuts, lentil sprouts will make you feel fuller (I add them to salads & other dishes), but without all the fat, so they don't make you feel as slow afterwards. I don't eat them often, but they are cheap, easy & yummy. They might give you gas though, so take enzymes.
Sprouting is Great! And so easy and cheap. I did not metion it. Only b/c I have not been doing it lately but I will again. LEntils are a great idea and yes very cheap!
i'm so relieved to know that there are people out there who have the same struggles as me with food, you are very inspiring. I have decided to go raw for 30 days to see how it goes (i'm already a vegan...so hopefully it wont be hard) I'm 140 now i wanna weigh 110, wish me luck:)
How much weight do you think i can lose since you have already tried it?
Good luck! When I am really in tune with my body and I only eat when I am hungry I can loose 2 to 4 pounds a week. But when I am leaning on food for whatever emotional reason and I eat too much (even raw) I loose atleast a pound a week. If I exercise more. The thing about raw is you loose your appetite for sugar and flour and those are two big blockers of weightloss!
Congrats on your weight loss! I am eating very simple. My goal is to juice veggies like crazy for 2 weeks. I hope to do it. I love Costco & asain markets. I did not know that latin markets had cacao beans! Great info! Your advice is very sound and real! I do belong to an awesome co-op. I am SO lucky! I do grow my own food too. Raw does not cost me more. Everyone keeps talking about that onion bread. I need to find that recipe!
