I can't believe the stupidity of these people leaving negative comments that you're being mean to Marv by telling him to shut up and things like that. People don't realize that no matter what you say, or how you say it, you are entertaining him. Yes, that's right, you could be entertaining your own bird instead of it entertaining you.
If you ignore things he says, he won't continue to say them. His goal is to get attention positive or negative. He doesn't care. Telling him to shut up only reinforces him to do it.
I don't think you are being mean. It is obvious that you are just being silly. The bird is not capable of understanding what you are saying as something mean, they understand your approach and your tone, the words themselves don't matter. It's quite clear that your bird is taken care of, looks like he don't even feather pluck. I have an african grey too, they make such great friends.

@VerdeHoshi Look Im done with this whole subject, I have 11 parrots I have been a trainer for many years of both birds and police k9. Animals can sense a person feelings and can tell by the tone of voice and how they are treated. However if feels the need to be mean to the bird so be it. one day it will turn on him.

Even with none, I'm sure most people would agree that turning the African Grey over to animal conrol for being told to shut up is pure extremism. The big money is in the black cockatoos. If you can find one for $8,000.00, which would be an older bird, that would be a bargain. In the USA, the black cockatoos and the Hyacynth macaws are probably the most expensive birds you can have as pets.

You may have a parrot, but you don't know African greys. They're too smart to be fooled by the tone of your voice. It's impossible to offend Marv by yelling at him. In fact, he loves it.

I googled it, since I didn't think 6,000. could possibly be right (plus, bird types rarely speak of "well bred" birds - I found some - in Queensland - for 300.00.
I don't think so ! They may be that expensive, but it's not importation laws!!!!!!!!! NO parrots are imported to the USA, they are all domestically bred - so import laws do not factor in - and it's the same in Australia. In fact, I think it's the same everywhere, as I might like to travel again one day, but there is no country where I could take my bird. Aussies get their revenge here - you should see what we pay for the cockatoos Aussie farmers shoot as pests!
Truthfully, I recently learned that my 'too, A lesser sulphur crested, isn't from Australia! So I might be wrong about others. Galahas (?), aka rose-breasted, I think are about $1,200.00. Umbrellas are also in that price range, as are greater sulphur cresteds and tritons. The goffins, and bare eyed are in the $1,000.00 range. Moluccans, which are MUCH harder to breed, are closer to $2,000.00.
I think this is not funny only a waste of a parrots ability to repeat what they hear on social ques. all this guy was doing was swearing to his parrot. i own an african grey and they have way more potential than that.

I think talking back to him like that only encourages him to talk more, maybe it would be better idea if you put a blanket over top the cage if he gets to noisy for you. This usually helps calm down the birds.
I have a cherry head and blue mask conure on my shoulder...the cheery calls people assholes...they especially love this bird and have been around allot of africans...both laugh hard

I think talking back to him like that only encourages him to talk more, maybe it would be better idea if you put a blanket over top the cage if he gets to noisy for you. This usually helps calm down the birds.

I have a cherry head and blue mask conure on my shoulder...the cheery calls people assholes...they especially love this bird and have been around allot of africans...both laugh hard
