Oh my, here is a singer I have never even heard of, how LOVELY this singing is. My mother used to do the whole first phrase in one breath - used to scare conductors to death LOL....and almost this slow. This is SUCH lovely singing!!!!
This kind of voice (angelic-lyric) is a rare treat to hear, and is IMHO the best vocal type for this part.. (Janowit z and Battle also had such voices, and Kühmeier carries the torch today.) Lovely phrasing, and the timbre is exquisite.
She never became a "superstar," but for me she was perfect in so much of the German repertoire; I like her voice and her approach better than Schwarzkopf' in this music, but I think Klemperer would have provided more backbone to the accompaniment than Kempe.
