  • his music

    will live forever

  • likely they was th ebest ever right there with beatles and allmans

  • Hey great history listen and enjoy

Thanks for putting it up for the public to listen and view. Relax enjoy this is nice stuff

There has not been music like this in years! Years

  • Most of you are ignorant. Pre and post crash bands the guitar parts were pretty equal. Gary is the only constant he plays rhythm and lead. All the other guitar players pre crash and post crash played rhthym and lead.Indeed Steve when he joined provided a huge spark. I agree with many of the statements made that they are just a cover band now, but they still sound good. If you dont like it dont watch or listen.

  • God bless Steve gaines!

  • BTW, a pretty damn decent "77 Tour "live vid" of this song with Gaines @

    watch?v=hQlCxE4z3u4&feature=related.

One of the last 5 shows they'd played before the crash. Although in B&W and the sound's a little low, you could tell they were READY for this tour!

  • If you know anything about Skynyrd, Allen preferred to play the power chords and did just as much if not more rhythm than Gary. They were all excellent guitarists and both soloed and played lead. Thats why they were calked The 3 Guitar Army.

  • 2 people are STUPID and unappreciative....how bout that? Morons

  • only if you shred and you have some kind of ear can you appreciate this bootleg: others find the single and go away

  • If Steve had survived the crash they would still be making the best rock n roll in the world today.

  • the biggest tragedy in the crash was the loss of Steve Gaines, . he was such an underrated talent and just a fantastic player. It's just a shame.

(not to take anything away from the talents of his sister and Ronnie)

  • @meperidine - no one person was more of a tragedy. Losing another human to a crash is devastating. Ronnie was and still is the greatest lyricist and vocalist of all time (yes better than Lennon, Page, etc...) and Steve was simply amazing on the guitar (honestly one of the top 5 - i believe Hendrix is good, but just a bit overrated.... 1) Dimebag Darrell 2) Steve Gaines 3) SRV 4) Joe Satriani 5) John5 6) Hendrix 7) Gary Rossington 8) Allen Collins ....

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd I never thought of Rossington as the exceptional guitarist. Gaines was probably the best, but when they had Hughie in the band, he could've been an animal if they let him off the leash, but because Gary is the original, he was lead. Aleen has more talent then Gary did, so I don't know why you put him after Gary. Gary's good, but the two that died were amazing.

  • @Raptorfy - I agree that both that died were amazing....but you can't deny that Rossington was amazing too. You can't just say Gary had no talent.

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd Thats not what I'm saying at all, Gary is amazing, but he isn't All or Steve, and I simply think Hughie had more talent.

  • @Raptorfy - Gary is a rhythm guitarist. Allen and Steve were lead guitarists. You can't compare the two.

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd - I don't know where you got that shit from. Gary played some of Skynyrd's best and most famous guitar solos. Saying he's just a rhythm guitarist is just ignorant and silly.

  • @DeaconBlues61 predominately Gary is the rhythm guitarist. That does not mean a rhythm guitarist can't solo. Not sure where you got that belief. And yes Gary did play some of their best solos. The way Skynyrd was setup was that Gaines and Collins were the lead guitarists...Gary was rhythm. If you think all rhythm guitarists to is keep the feeling/rhythm, you need to re-check that.

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd Skynyrd was simply just not set up that way. There were not primarily rhythm or lead guitarists- they were all just "guitarists". In the early days........ Rossington, Collins, and to an extent Ed King- simply took turns playing lead guitar. And when they weren't playing solos, they played rhythm. Later around '76 when Gaines came aboard it stayed the same way.Your assertion that Rossington was predominately a rhythm guitarist is still just silliness.

  • @TheSpawnofSkynyrd Check out the OLD VIDEOS of when the band was just TWO GUITAR PLAYERS. Rossington played 99% of the solos. Check out Winterland and Old Grey Whistle Test. Why? Because Collins was the better Rhythm player and could hold it down..Gary wasn't NEAR the rhythm player Allen was. And when Gaines joined that left TWO great rhythm players when one would solo. That was Gaines and Collins check out Gaines rhythm work during Billy Powell's solo on "CALL ME THE BREEZE" live..

  • Nice to hear them tearing it up on the solos even for a soundcheck. I think these guys really liked playing.

  • God Damn, that boy's funky!

  • stave didnt write this, allen and ronnie did.......

  • @shadowgunsxfrompaper whoops, sorry, didnt realize by that u meant steve on vocals. sorry!

  • @shadowgunsxfrompaper Steve arranged it according to Kevin Elson...

  • R.I.P. ronnie, steve, allen, leon, and billy

  • such a shame that so much talent was taken so young, so soon. i just read that ronnie said steve would shadow the band someday. could you imagine had they not gotten on that plane, where the band would of gone with their new guitarist/vocalist? check out "ain't no good life" to hear steve all by himself singing.

  • copy

  • I saw LS a few months before the crash in Buffalo -- outstanding gig. I have pictures from it still.

  • Does anyone know exactly where in Green Cove Springs Fl. they used to practice? Wanna say it was in some shack in the woods.Near the mine?Closer to town?Anyone know?

  • 1576 russel rd green cove springs

  • I went to the hellhouse land oct 18th with ronnie vanzants best friend and plane crash survior Gene Odom. If you want to see the land along with ronnies garys and bob burns childhood homes and grave sites of ronnie, leon and allen collins buy genes DVD Lynyrd Skynyrd Documentary with Gene Odom

you will also see the oak tree that gary hit that is in the song that smell (oak tree your in my way)

  • Thank you so much.

  • i'm going this summer but don't know were it is

  • I met Gene Odom When the Rossington Collins band was touring. He was selling his book!! and Then we met up again when he was with molly hatchet doing the same! really approachable and if you got the time and he also!! what a story!! he has been thru a lot, it's all in the book if you got a couple bucks!! IF YOUR A SKYNYRD FAN, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!!

  • @KALIFORNIAKOWBOYS What book?

  • @deedeec44 Whats the dvd called?

  • Comment removed

  • First off, he was a killer guitar player but like the old saying goes... "Guitarplayers are a dime a dozen" but when a guy can play guitar and sing at the same time isnt :) Special man :)

  • @atomicplayboy4u Ronnie Van Zant said. "STEVE IS A GUITAR PLAYING/SINGING/SONG WRITING FOOL AND ONE DAY WE WILL ALL BE STANDING IN HIS SHADOW". Sad it never came true.

  • @SteveGaines I never saw this quote before ;)

  • @atomicplayboy4u It's in the biography "FREEBIRDS" The Lynyrd Skynyrd story by Martley Brandt.

  • I saw steve gaines live in chicago before the crash. a true super star!

  • Steve`s Strat and phrasing added so much to the LS sound :)

  • Steve doing Ronnie.

    Classic.

  • Yeah ... this is terrific, a great post! Steve Gaines had so much talent, so sadly cut short.

  • steve couldve and probably would have took the lead singing/guitar position if he wouldnt have died...

  • Steve Gaines would have been a superstar... so sad. This is a rare gem - thanks for posting.

  • must have been a "roadie" who invested in some equipment.Thankyou. contact me,meet me,see if you think I am Ronnies Son here in Florence Al

  • Aaaaaaah, I remember that. All those seals died...it was all over the news...the channel 4 news with dan rather? although i think connie chung may have been substituting that night...well, I best be saddling up.

  • awssome song thinks for posting this video LONG LIVE THE OLD BAND.. RIP ALL WHOM HAVE GO ON TO THE SKY ABOUVE LONG LIVE SKYNYRD

  • Lol... he's hitting Steve on the head, & Ronnie's just sitting back there like, "Man, I'm awesome..." (BTW, you were, & still are awesome, Ronnie!)

  • Brian Jones alias Prince Charming and all other versions are borrowed from that.

  • @mebloke69 Gary Rossington was "PRINCE CHARMING AND PRETTY BOY". That was Ronnie's nick name for him because of his long hair and his way with the women.

  • @SteveGaines Sorry,Ronnie took that name from the original Prince Charming who was Brian Jones...even you can find it from Eric Burdon´s song for Woodstock.

  • @SteveGaines Original Prince Charming was Brian Jones and Ronnie took it from that you can hear it even Eric Burdon´s song for Woodstock.

  • Fantasick !

I havent heard this before whit Steve,

    Thanks ! :)

  • Great Steve, I really miss his music....rip

  • RVZ found"Prince charming from an English boy.

  • Gary Rossington was PRINCE CHARMING and PRETTY BOY for his way with the women..RVZ gave him that name.

  • Ronnie and the band called GARY "PRINCE CHARMING"...because of his way with the women..Look up the interview with Gene Odom and it will show the OAK TREE Gary hit with his car..

  • Steve does a bang up job on vocals here. He could have been a singer. He was one heckuva guitar slinger though! Luckily for us, we still have Gary, Ed and Artimus around. RIP Billy Powell......

  • B. Powell said in the MTV documentary that Cassie was sliced ear to ear and died in his arm. Artemus Pyle and other survivors however, said it wasn't true and was pissed at Billy for upsetting the Gaines family. They then released the coroners report and it proved A.Pyle was right, she wasn't. Billy and Artemus got over it and their relationship was OK after that.

  • u people r so moranik! i know thats not a word but the thing is........dead is dead head on or head off give me a break!

  • dean kilpatrick was decapitated.

  • Seriously??????

  • Prince Charming was Brian Jones and songwriting is playin´with words.and RON was an gifted songwriter as we know...

  • too many words you guys.. YET MOST ARE ALRIGHT.one word though ...... yeah fuck ........... fuck yeah dixie dixie

  • prince charming was Gary not Steve.Steve was the only one in the band who had his head on straight at all times.

  • Agree with you about Steve. The band was really charged with a renewed passion for music when he joined. I really believe that if he (Steve) were still alive, he would be one of the best blues/rock guitarists around.

  • i agree with you to...i watched (freebird the movie) and the songs that i did watch he didn't do much but then when he played that 1st solo on that smell my jaw dropped and i was like holy fuck that guy can fucking play!!1 soo i agree with u derock! rip stevie

  • didn't his head get chopped off in the plane crash?

  • How do you mean?

  • In the plane crash...it was steve or his sister...one of them got sliced from ear to ear and was nearly decapitated.

  • neither. steve had the same injury as ronnie. cassie had something else, but she wasnt decapitated.

  • ronnie and steve were catapulted from the plane and both hit trees head on and cassie bled to death in artimus' and garys arms

  • artimus, left to get help dude!!!! She didn't die in his arms.

  • juttin39 is partly right man.... she died in gary and billy's arm..... not artimus....

  • Cassie Gaines died on impact on a BROKEN NECK.. Judy Van Zant posted her autopsy report on the internet back when Billy Powell told that. Gene Odom says Steve was still alive when they pulled him from the crash but died on the way to the hospital from internal injuries.

  • MisterNegativity101, that's simply untrue. Billy Powell reported that Steve's sister, Cassie, had her throat cut ... and more hideous stuff ... which managed to upset everyone in the family and plenty of others -- but it was NOT true. As a family member, this is something I KNOW. Cassie died ... why try to make it even gorier??

  • AMEN!! I never really thought about that b4. When you have a family member that famous and they pass, the fans go on and on forever talking about them but the poor family can probably never grieve or have any closure because they will always hear us knuckleheads talking about them all the time. My heart really goes out to the family and we should be celebrating their music, and their lives, not obcessing on the gorey details of their unfortunate demise R.I.P. all members that have passed!

  • thanks, jumbozoom

  • Bingo!..Gene Odom said that Steve like a "GOOD SMOKE AND A BEER" but only in moderation...Steve was the SPARK that the band needed...Gary and Allen had tasted success and were stale..Steve had been playing the club scene and was hungry...He scared the shit out of Gary and Allen into playing better than they had in years..and Ronnie had to TRY HARDER too...because Steve pushed him with his songwriting and singing.....He died WAY TOO SOON...

  • @SteveGaines I have a $1,500 tattoo of Steve on my right calf done by world renown tattooist Tom Renshaw, look em up.

  • @SteveGaines Agreed! LS were all getting stale in writing and playing until Steve really "pumped them up" again. Street Survivors was like the "rebirth" Skynyrd had needed, (not to mention the 3-guitar attack again), that Steve brought back into the group. Just listen to the difference between "Gimme Back My Bullets" to "Street Survivors". NO comparison! Woulda loved to have been able to seen the (cut short)'77 Street Survivors Tour! They played 5 shows before the crash, hence so few good vids.

  • Thanks so much dude! This is so good;Steve & Allen were such great players and a big influence for my own playing!!! Cant' say enough thanks to ya for your vids & your page as well.Keep the flame burning,it was 31yrs ago yesterday that the tragedy of this great band occured; {WOW} it doesn't seem that long ago does it?

  • ya one of the best fuckin songs in the world.. and if u dont like this u can go eat a dick..

  • Or stir fry some corn outta turds..

This is the songThe Band .. hell yes

  • whos the guy with the explorer in the pic?, its not deff not allen

  • Actually, it is. I've also seen pictures of Allen where it doesn't like him (e.g., see the back of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Collectybles cover, the one with the huge crowd in the background.....see the guy to the far left? Yep, it's Allen alright. For years, I didn't think it was him either). From what I've been told, at least for the years during which he was alive, the only guy that could have been mistaken for Allen was Dean Kilpatrick, and I don't believe he played.....at least not an Explorer!

  • It is, just looks different

  • yup i said the same ting when i saw dean i was like thats allen then when i would see allen i would be like hey thats dean not allen haha

  • GEM.

  • Steve rlz so much.

    RIP.

  • Steve was probably the most talented member of Skynyrd. Had he survived that tragic plane crash, I think he could have taken over on lead vocals and the band could have continued on. But losing both him and Ronnie; it made no sense to go on.

  • Steve wasn't "Prince Charming," and he really hadn't yet accumulated "demons." Yes, he smoked weed -- had since high school -- (after all, it WAS the 60s/'70s!) -- but he was by far the LEAST drug or booze affected.

  • saw these guys and gals in denver right before the crash what a show and what a loss miss them so much

  • I have this soundcheck recording. The main problems with this recording are that the tape speed is OFF, playing SLOW, and my copy has a TON of tape HISS. Very cool recording other than that. It was be amazing to hear the cd cleaned up and dehissed and reset for speed. There is a LOT of dialogue on the disc but as for myself I can't tell what the guys are saying to one another.

  • thanks man

  • Wow, what a find. Thanks, man, for posting this. Gaines was my fav and this is a gem.

  • Man, I'd pay good money to get this on CD! Universal, are you reading this?!?!?!

  • I had no idea for so many years how great Steve Gaines was guitar playing and singing and he grew up in Miami Ok not that far from were I grew up in Tulsa may he rest in peace.

  • fucking amazing. this is so cool.

  • Yep.

  • all i can say is thank you

  • very valuable man. I never knew this existed, Gaines really was a good player and singer, One in the Sun always makes me think of gaines and old times when i hear it.

  • steve rip man

  • This is awesome Tony!

    Thanks for posting it:)

  • Cool, must have been hard to find this!

  • its not hard to find this some guy on e bay was selling it on a cd.

  • Recorded at a pre-show soundcheck in Sheffield, England on 2/5/77. Features Steve Gaines on vocals! Ronnie preferred not to do soundchecks in fear of hurting his voice. Steve does a great job singing here.
