The thing I love most about Bill was his attitude about what he did. He wasn't pushing boundaries for the sake of pushing boundaries, and he wasn't pushing them simply because they needed to be pushed. We're just not that patriotic in Britain, and we don't take ourselves as seriously. I think there's still a difference between American and British comedy, generally speaking. With the obvious exceptions of brilliant comedians like Hicks, most American humour is more optimistic, they like to be the winners. Whereas British comedians tend to be more nihilistic, and they like to play the losers.
