Paul Christy later became a heel and had a female valet named Miss Bunny Love (actually his wife Clarice). He feuded with Spike Huber in Bruiser's Indianapolis territory in the late '70s. Arakawa was a former WWWF U.S. tag champ in 1968 with Prof. Tanaka as his partner. As others have mentioned previously, Dr. Moto was better known as Tor Kamata. The only wretsler in this match who is still living is Paul Christy.
the thing with wrestling is not if its fake or not. to me it just brings back my youth and the memories that were attached to them. so when others complain or say stupid things, its not the sport but the good times it brung to the person and his family, so when you see the matches, in your mind you can remember the things that were going on in your home, in the world good or bad. because thats all we have are the memories.
@mkl62 You would think that he would be, but there are lots of other ignored wrestlers who are better known who aren't in yet, like Prof. Tanaka, Ivan Koloff, Haystacks Calhoun, Wahoo McDaniel, Johnny Valentine, Don Leo Jonathan, Giant Baba, Dominic DeNucci, Rick Martel, Larry Zbyszko, Demolition, Bruiser & Crusher, to name a few. Arakawa has the name and should be there, but others far better known aren't there yet either so it will take a while.
@NanKaiMan Absolutely true. Kamata's real name was McRonald Kamaka. I don't remember off the top of my head what Arakawa's real name was. The original Mr. Moto was Charlie Iwamura.
@64downtown Dr. Moto was a name that the late Tor Kamata worked under in the AWA during a short stint. The original Mr. Moto was Charlie Iwamura and was renowned for being one of the prototype Japanese heel wrestlers, the template for folks like Prof. Tanaka, Mitsu Arakawa, Tojo Yamamoto, Hiro Matsuda, Mr. Fuji, Tor Kamata, Kenji Shibuya, Mr. Saito, et al.
@elc1960 thanks for the info elc1960--most of them came and wrestlered in aust in 60s/70s--mark lewin always used to cop the salt in the eyes--i think,he wanted a few weeks off--but i really enjoyed Mr. Moto here on yt-with henry hank--he was a excellent heel--do you know anything about art nelson and tex mckenzie
@64downtown Tex McKenzie I am very familiar with. He wrestled a lot around the Detroit MI area. Believe it or not, his real name was F. Hugh McKenzie! (The "F" was for Frank.) Tex passed away a few years ago. Here in the States, his biggest feud was with the original Sheik. Tex was also a TV commentator for the IWA and ICW promotions in the Southern US. I remember an Art Neilson who teamed with his brother Stan (Neilson) here, but not an Art Nelson.
@elc1960 Stan (Neilson) Art Nelson.--i think they were the same person one tough guy-theres something missing in today wrestling-with the exception of a few-they are all hype-puff & wind-but hardly any substance-they are heavily scripted and formated-doesnt leave much room for self development- it ended when wwf became wwe-the toughness was replaced with movie star looks- best period was around when wrestle mania-84/85-ended around93-we had wrestling in aust-closed down by womens lobby
@64downtown I agree with your assessment of modern WWE. I preferred the old WWWF of the '60s and '70s, but I'm prejudiced because that was what I watched when I started watching wrestling. The era of Bruno Sammartino, Ray Stevens, Bulldog Brower, Johnny Valentine, Harley Race, Mark Lewin, King Curtis Iaukea . . . great memories. And if I recall, most of those guys worked a lot "down under" as well.
@elc1960 not biased-that was the best era just coming out of the 50s-you could rolloff your tongue all those talents and there was more--like tv/music and movies-that was the best era--i dont know what happened after that, corperatization-or an end of a era-thx to yt-and uploaders-we can remember these great wrestlers-and where we were.i was just enjoying maryse in the wwe-she was great pivotal character and great wrestling diva but she left or was terminated-cmpunk knows how to talk.
@64downtown Maryse seemed to have a grasp of her character. Most of the other Divas are bland (a word not easy to say when you're talking about stunningly beautiful women). The emphasis is on scriped, boring, overlong promos, backstage skits and other crap. They announced on RAW Monday night that HHH and Undertaker will fight at WMXXVIII in a Hell in a Cell match. (Possibly, for one night only . . . blood? In WWE? We'll see . . . )
@elc1960 yea absolutely--she made NXT watchable again in early 2011-i dont think theres anything left as in the divas on wwe-no rising stars-yea maryse wants acting roles in california-with tv the way it is in the usa-dont think theres much there-i dont watch tv anymore-i find yt has everything-the mainstream tv news is full of bulldust-as for HHH vs undertaker-as if we didnt know that was going to happen-my favs from the 80s on wwe were jesse, piper nad the honky tonk man for comedy-
@64downtown Yeah, they were leading up to HHH vs Taker for a while. The only surprise was the Hell in a Cell angle. The '80s in WWF was the beginning of the kid-friendly era that we have today, but at least they saved the bloody stuff for PPVs. Honky Tonk was worthy of his IC title run because he made the most of his limited skills. Piper & Ventura were great on the mic without a doubt.
@elc1960 thanks for info and writing back-you remind me a guy i know around imdb(dot)com--writing style--i never knew--tex mckenzie hung around the iron shiek for a while-while touring some usa states--he was pretty nice guy tex--he wasnt the heel type-same with lewin-when he became a heel-he did some odd things and just looked funny absurd.--.except the likes of walter killer kowalski--born heel--haha
@64downtown Mark Lewin (aka "Purple Haze" as a heel in the States) had a real weird streak. Check out his stuff with Kevin Sullivan from Florida in the early '80s - a whole new level of weird, my friend. As for my writing style, well that's pretty much the way I speak as well. Never been on imdb so I guess that's that. Almost like we've got our own little dialogue going here. I love the old stuff in wrestling and it's very apparent that you do also. Cheers!
@elc1960 yea i've seem that video--he's acting like brower power--unstable-rolling his eyes-lifting his arms up--real weird streak alright--most unlike him--some great wrestlers are poor actors--like the rock-a wrestling great--a ham @acting-i would say -to him-dont try so hard-what about-cena last year-when he threw the t-shirt @ the audience-they threw it back-twice--the cm punk phenomena is really interesting-most likely it suprised him too--said a lot of stuff that was amazing-D64
@64downtown Well, the weirdness was more attributable to Kevin Sullivan and not so much Lewin. Check out the clips of Sullivan w/King Curtis as the Dungeonmaster in WCW - WOW! Weird beyond belief, but be prepared for how loud they are. As for Punk, I like him, he has something most of the other WWE "talent" lacks - TALENT! Randy Orton also has it, and Cena is not as bad as some would lead you to believe. The rest . . . not so much. Thanks for writing back!
@elc1960 you know i was just viewing the dead wrestlers vids-mostly sad-no tribute from wwe about umuga-i dont think its mcmahans fault about what they mix-sure the steriods will enhance body-but they choose to take it,inject it-and they are grown people-its there private business what they do and cant be controlled of them-seeing those vids-in one way-glad maryse is out of that scene-she was already injured at least twice and falling on enhanced silcone breasts is not ideal-64D
This was the very first promotion that I watched in Chicago on WCIU Channel 26 in 1968. The announcer is Chuck Marlow! This was wrestling at it's best! Bob Luce was a legend and put on a great promotion! Paul Christy wrestled as a Face then and was in my opinion a much better Face than a Heel!
Cholak was the Navy Wrestling and Boxing Champion while in the service and played football at the University of Wisconsin before joining the Navy. He was an agile, strong and able athlete.
