  • Red was approachable and never full of himself. As a young'en, I spoke with him at Host Farm, Lancaster PA, then, at Tamiment in the Poconos. I tell many of his jokes and get good laughs. To mimick an excerpt from his recording; He'd agree that 'Strange things are happening, in the current state of comedy. 'Ha-ha, Ho-ho'-- Laughter is THE best medicine. Most of the Stand-up comedians, who happened to be Jewish, lasted as long as they did. The others were good; yet, Red seems irreplaceable.

  • I have seen all the Dean Martin roasts. The Red Buttons segments are annoying and not very funny. He sorely needed a new routine; after the first two of this "never got a dinner" stuff, he became boring and a real pain. I hit the fast forward button when his part comes on.

  • This is the funniest ever! Nobody comes close to this today - not one bit!!!

  • NEVER GOT A DINNA.

  • Thank god Jonathan Winters is still alive

  • @fatboymatt Your welcome.

  • @ryanbradyjohnblack19 It was Yogi Berra...

  • Beside Billy Martin who else did red buttons mention at 2:13?

  • 3:31 WTF??

  • @PTPLauthor that's Ruth Buzzy. She was one of those regulars back then. She was on Laugh In also. It was just a charachter.

  • @raspycellist I was referring more to what looked like a hole in the middle of her forehead, but its her hairnet.

  • @PTPLauthor Only her name is spelled "Buzzi."

  • holy shit, adam and George Burns in the garden of eden......

  • @LEIMALOCCA Are you just now finding out....Yeah George Burns with Adam in Garden.

  • These were great and preserve a wonderful record of some of the legends of show biz --- however I was always pained by the edited-in closeups of forced, hysterical laughter.

  • Who is the guy shown at 08:09 to 0810? He looks like he could be a very young Danny Thomas, though I know it is not Danny Thomas. Could anyone elaborate?

  • @shakenednostir Don't know who he is but he is not Danny Thomas.

  • @shakenednostir

    Comedian Tom Dreesen

  • @colony14 I concur: it is definitely Dreesen.

  • This is so funny! It's ashame they don't have roasts like this any more! Where are the funny guys any more? Also, the comedians today can learn from this that you can be very funny without using the F word!

  • i dont know what the hell he is talking about, but i laugh anyway

  • Never got a dinner...one of the funniest things I have ever seen !!

  • funny

  • Never got a dinnah

  • totally classic stuff!!

  • Excellent!

  • "Stop running around with David, you're always coming home stoned"...rotflmao!!!

  • Red Buttons ur the best R.I.P

  • Sorry Folks, funny is funny and working "blue" can be funny as hell or it can suck just like any other humor.

  • @bondace1 you are totally right!

  • A Beauty

  • Ahh, those were the days! We not only could laugh at others but at ourselves. Sadly, today's climate of everything having to be "politically correct" changes all that. Instead they curse and call that humor.

  • @Zeesala OK sure --- but just realize that when these were made folks were saying the same kinds of things (those were the days) about the 40s and 50s and thought the 70s were awful.

  • never got a dinner routine was hilarious. red always knocked this routine out of the park.

  • Dear Daddydon,

I agree with that belief..you don't need to cuss or use

ethnic put downs to be funny! And that verbotten rule should be still imposed in the business today!

  • Back when you didn't have to use the "F" word to be funny, its called material.

  • True that!

  • @daddydon48 Redd Foxx was funny as well as Red Buttons

  • @jayheadj420 ye redd is just amazing

  • @daddydon48 there are great dirty comedians as well

  • Too bad that Dom Deluise also just passed away!

    Rip!

  • Bernnie - I agree. Dom DeLuise was a very funny guy. I loved him in Smokey and the Bandit II.

  • Red buttons was the best , the old time Jewish Borsch belt comedians were the best!

  • Red Buttons- A Great Comedian- Actor, and Mensch. No one came as close to Belley Laughs as Red Buttons. One of the Greatest Nights for Red was a Roast for Milton Berle at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake NY one New Years Eve,( A great Hotel that is closed)From Ho Ho He He to Sayanora to the Dean Martin Roasts to name a Few, He was the BEST!!

  • "Red Buttons- A Great Comedian- Actor, and Mensch. No one came as close to Belley Laughs as Red Buttons." Well not if you count when charlie Callas was on the roast of frank Sinatra. He made Frank laugh till he cried. Unless I am wrong.

  • Thank you for posting these! They are the best. Never happen again!

  • Chicken catcher Torre.

    RIP: Red Buttons.
