I was four when this was taking place. It's so cool to see stuff like this, I have very few memories of the 80s. Space shuttle launches look like a ton of fun to watch, I would love to go to one someday. @dakenhowlett Actually, this is Richard. The account started out as a place for Wendy to upload her Masque of the Red Death videos, but then we added some Elfquest to it, and then... well, by the time we realized we probably should have different accounts, it was too late. If we move the videos, we lose the views and comments. And Youtube won't let us change the account name, far as we can tell. So don't automatically assume every upload or comment is only from her. We'll try to keep it clear.

Impressive lift off! Did you need protective ear plugs? What recording gear was this shot with? (My own at that time was a Hitachi VHS Movie CamCorder, now needing a new battery and rubber belt)
@LilNiceWolf I didn't need ear protection, but the sound was unlike anything I've heard before or since. No one gets it right when trying to describe that thunder - the closest I ever came was to say that the roar was so loud, it broke the air trying to carry it (thus that crackly, ragged quality). I think I had a Nikon video recorder of some sort; it's long gone. But I remember it recorded onto those mini DV tapes.
