A soldier needs years to became good with a bow. On the contrary a man need few weeks of training to became a quite good musketeer, and also don't need the same strenght. A musket could also pierce an armour easily, and is also less hard to use, then a musketeer can shoot for more time. The advantage of a bow in a one to one situation is non influetial for military purpose.
@supersmash43 Yeah but in a one on one situation, it would probably be better xD I could shot him while he's loading. Of course I'd need to be good with a bow, but you get where I'm coming from.
@JFuzzman yeah but overall despite the cumbersomeness of early firearms they quickly replaced bow & arrow in Europe because of their overall military advantage.
By the time he loads that I have order a famas of internet stole some ammo from the gun store and shot him before he even got to the part of pulling out the stick
@cylliotube By the time he loads his gun, I would have ordered a famas off the internet, stolen some ammo from a gun store and shot him, all before he even got to the part pulling the stick out
He fiddles around with his powder flasks and holds the burning match in the other hand just for a perfect demonstration- brave man.
We know from documents how many accidents occured with matchlocks. An English Civil War officer wrote "We are burying more fingers and toes than men". Musketeers often had a tubular metal case to store the burning match while loading. It even helped staying invincible at night, a company of musketeers must have looked like scores of glowworms on night marches.
@agentsouth300: give or take 30 sec. The matchlock musket has a firing rate if 1 or 2 shots a minute. Flintlock and rifle muskets 3 or 4 shots a minute.
Do you know where one might find a complete Manual (de gheyn?) for the matchlock musket? I am in tho process of measuring one in the Emden Rustkammer, in order ro copy it.
@folsomdave Just incase one end goes out. Relighting a match cord is a chore. Also this was done just incase you grabbed the wrong end in the heat of battle.
btw first shot he used the wrong end of his scouring stick...

@JFuzzman except a bow is not as powerful and will tire you out faster.

Why do you have both ends of the slow match cord burning instead of just one end?
