  • Just heard this on the radio and thought WTH when I heard "Angelina" instead of Mary...Holy Grail is right! Thanks for posting !!

  • As much as I like the recorded version of Thunder Road, there were some fantastic ideas in Wings For Wheels that I wish could have made it into the final take. The line about the "dirty wings those highway angels wear" is pure gold. Thanks for this video :D

  • omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! i havent heard this in at least 30 yrs.!!!!! i have it on an old bootleg album but cant listen to it because it warped!!!!! thanks so much for putting this up!

  • 1 person obviously like the studio version better. LOL

  • Prodigal son at mainpoint bootleg?

  • What was this shot on?? I was there and had to leave to go to 3rd shift work...if only Ellen Mcillwaine hadn't played so damn long!!!

  • wow...fantastic. thank you so much for the footage. this part in bruce's career connects with me so much. he's in the middle of recording btr, and you can just hear desperation in every word of this song. i would love to have the notebook he wrote the album in and see all the other thoughts he put down before it was finished.

  • i was only 5 years old when this was shot but i could kick myself for not being there after all i lived in philly

  • it's weird to think about... songs like this trade in their wings for wheels and change into something different

  • My Fav Bruce Song Thnx For The Post!!

  • This is the best video ever posted in the history of youtube.

  • Shit, this version is adorable

Now the season's over and I feel it getting cold

I wish I could take you to some sandy beach where we'd never grow old

Ah but baby you know that's just jive

But tonight's bustin' open and I'm alive

Oh do (baby) what you can to make me feel like a man

and that "dance all the way, dance all the way"? I think I might love this better than Thunder Road.. and I adore Thunder Road

    Thanks so much for this!

  • @ slvtnplt, yeah you said it perfectly. Thunder Road is my favourite song but this version is even better at some points. 2 versions that cannot be compared because they are both legendary in their own ways!

  • aha totally agree

i wish he professionally recorded this one

  • Very different, and the transition out of his early styles are evident. This is really cool.

  • You don't think Thunder Road deserves enough credit? You mean it doesn't get enough credit? Anyway, there's not many of us out here that only think of the Born in the USA album. No worries mate, Bruce gets alot of credit. Tonight's bustin' open... and I'm alive...

  • In High Fidelity I love the ref to best Side 1 Track 1s,

    Thunder Road of course.

Also, Return of the Grievous Angel by GP comes to mind.

  • I love both lyrical versions of this tune so much.

I just wish people still said 'That's just jive'

  • this is unbelievable. Bruce wrote in such a magnetic and way it's incredible to peer into how he gradually crafted this song.

  • does anybody out there recall the drama that lead up to this performance at the SAC?

  • is suki lahav playing with the band during this period? does anybody know

  • Yes, she is there.

  • to me...she was a lovely vision amidst the garbled gymnasium acoustics

  • i think i would faint if i heard this in concert. my all time favorite song, yet he never plays it anymore...

  • friggin awesome great job thanks love it

  • "Now, I don't know, but I bin told

That there's somethin' waitin' for us down that old dirty road

We can dance all the way!

Dance all the way, dance all the way!"

"We're gonna bust the night open..."

Great words. Crazy version! It's one of greatest rocks songs ever written, no question.

  • Thanks for the vid :)

I love the chorus on this version.

  • how cool would it be if he played this at a show one of these days..people would probably have no idea what the hell it is and confuse it with thunder road, but for us true fans i think this would be something great

  • yes it would be cool to here at a concert but bruces fans are true blue fans and i think 99% of the fans would realize the treat that they are hearing

  • You cant put a price tag on this one. Amazing footage. Until now I only had access to the audio so this is a special treat. rock and roll like it aught a be

  • ...but this 442's gonna overheat

    make up your mind girl

I gotta get her back out

    on the street...

  • OUTSTANDING! WOW!.....this is Bruce with spirit and soul. thanks

  • Bruce with spirit and soul?

why not just say this is Bruce

  • never knew a version like this existed, very cool.

  • all musicians make mistakes in live, and clarence, bruce and the rest of the band are not an exception

  • Suki was a goddess....didn't see this show but saw the Tower Theater show in early '75.....went to fla. and saw him @ the miami hy alai fonton...big green tourbus

  • At that age, still kickin ass!!!

  • I'm so glad to share this with everyone.

  • @B1ggu5 The Holy Grail of Bruce Springsteen material! No debate, this is the #1 video ever posted on youtube. I was too young to be at this show, but my older brothers and sister were there. This video should be preserved in the Library of Congress. It is truly a national treasure.

  • Holy bejeezus. What a little guy, so young, so amazing. Remarkable in every way.

  • every reason why i'm a boss fan!!!!!

  • From small acorns do giants grow - brilliant

  • This is like finding an early version of the Gettysburg Address. Priceless!
