As much as I like the recorded version of Thunder Road, there were some fantastic ideas in Wings For Wheels that I wish could have made it into the final take. The line about the "dirty wings those highway angels wear" is pure gold. Thanks for this video :D
omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! i havent heard this in at least 30 yrs.!!!!! i have it on an old bootleg album but cant listen to it because it warped!!!!! thanks so much for putting this up!
wow...fantastic. thank you so much for the footage. this part in bruce's career connects with me so much. he's in the middle of recording btr, and you can just hear desperation in every word of this song. i would love to have the notebook he wrote the album in and see all the other thoughts he put down before it was finished.
@ slvtnplt, yeah you said it perfectly. Thunder Road is my favourite song but this version is even better at some points. 2 versions that cannot be compared because they are both legendary in their own ways!
You don't think Thunder Road deserves enough credit? You mean it doesn't get enough credit? Anyway, there's not many of us out here that only think of the Born in the USA album. No worries mate, Bruce gets alot of credit. Tonight's bustin' open... and I'm alive...
how cool would it be if he played this at a show one of these days..people would probably have no idea what the hell it is and confuse it with thunder road, but for us true fans i think this would be something great
yes it would be cool to here at a concert but bruces fans are true blue fans and i think 99% of the fans would realize the treat that they are hearing
You cant put a price tag on this one. Amazing footage. Until now I only had access to the audio so this is a special treat. rock and roll like it aught a be

Yes clarence screws up the first notes of his solo... I heard the bootleg too. For all the people that talk about the good old days all the time and the fact that cc used to be the best... well he was/is good but he was never the best sax player. He is a real character but even on the best bootlegs of springsteen I hear mistakes of him.
Suki was a goddess....didn't see this show but saw the Tower Theater show in early '75.....went to fla. and saw him @ the miami hy alai fonton...big green tourbus

Just heard this on the radio and thought WTH when I heard "Angelina" instead of Mary...Holy Grail is right! Thanks for posting !!

Shit, this version is adorable
Now the season's over and I feel it getting cold
I wish I could take you to some sandy beach where we'd never grow old
Ah but baby you know that's just jive
But tonight's bustin' open and I'm alive
Oh do (baby) what you can to make me feel like a man
and that "dance all the way, dance all the way"? I think I might love this better than Thunder Road.. and I adore Thunder Road
Thanks so much for this!

In High Fidelity I love the ref to best Side 1 Track 1s,
Thunder Road of course.
Also, Return of the Grievous Angel by GP comes to mind.

I love both lyrical versions of this tune so much.
I just wish people still said 'That's just jive'

this is unbelievable. Bruce wrote in such a magnetic and way it's incredible to peer into how he gradually crafted this song.

"Now, I don't know, but I bin told
That there's somethin' waitin' for us down that old dirty road
We can dance all the way!
Dance all the way, dance all the way!"
"We're gonna bust the night open..."
Great words. Crazy version! It's one of greatest rocks songs ever written, no question.
