"WARNING: Do not let your hamster swim, it can die!" anyone or thing that is not a marine animal can die from from swimming or being in water. lol. just sayin'.
It's bad to let your hamster swim in water; YES they can swim but it's not good for them; they Actully need to be bathed in a special sand ask Ur local vet :) or google, lol
swimming is very good for hamsters,u need to let them swim in warm water let them get out if they want to,and then when they r done keep them warm till there r dry... easy :)
we have had our hamster over a year now-and bathe it about monthly. we do so in plain water, tahts warm but not hot and keep teh water out of her ears. then i hold her and dry her off with a towel for 30-60 minutes until she is totally dry. she is fine!
meanwhile-our previous hammy we never washed and he got sick and die at 9months.....
i used 2 have a black bear hamster me and hammy were lucky i gave him a bath in low water dried him off he was just fine he liked water i only did it once but he is dead because he ate to much food R.I.P hammy:( (he died in his food bowl)
To bath your critter. So all you people out there who own a hamster and know nothing about their care, GO LEARN ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL BEFORE GETTING IT OTHERWISE ITS GOING TO BE YOUR FAULT THAT A POOR DEFENSELESS HAMSTER HAS DIED. Same with gerbils, hamsters, dwarf hamsters, ferrets, chinchillas, and other rodents. So STOP THIS DUMB CRAP.
PEOPLE LISTEN UP! For the people who think that hamsters can swim and be fine. YOUR WRONG. ALL HAMSTERS SHOULD NOT BE IN WATER AT ALL. That is why they have water bottles. They can catch a fatal disease called Wet Tail. Wet Tail is caused around the um bathroom area. It is a very SERIOUS disease for these little creatures. It will KILL the hamster in 24 DAYS. Many people do NOT catch wet tail until it is too late. They take sand baths instead of water baths. You buy special sand at pet stores
@SimsFreeRealmsFreaks wet tail is caused by bacterial infection.....which can be picked up anywhere-its essentially direhea! direhea is teh leading cause of human deaths worldwide too, but we still take baths!
All the people wigging out about giving a pet a bath: YES they can catch a cold and die. YOU can catch a cold and die if you sit in a cold place wet for a while. This is why if you DO decide to bathe your hamster, you don't leave them wet. Towel them off and cuddle them and they'll be fine. It's bathing them and leaving them to dry in the open air where they CAN get a cold draft that causes them to die.
in the summer i let my hamster cool in the water for like 20 seconds and pick them up and dry them off. is that ok?? would bathing sand stick to the hamster or something??
You should never, ever let a hamster swim. They get sick and die. Hamsters can't swim, they hate water. If you want something that can swim, get a rat.
Lmfao,,,,all the children on this video are fucking morons......Hamster will catch a cold and DIE if you bathe them. They have a protective oily coat on their fur, that requires grooming, and sand rolling to clean. Learn how to take care of an animal pieces of shit...

Hamsters can actually swim. It is safe to let them swim in VERY shallow warm water once a month. But you must dry them off straight away and they should only be in the water for a maximum of two minutes. You do run the risk of your hamster contracting wet tail though, so it isn't a very good thing to do.

The thing is that the water can still make them cold and they easily get pneumonia. In the wild, Hamsters don't go for a swim and they burrow deep not to get rained on. So I would assume submerging them in any water at all wouldn't be safe. Hamsters bathe in dust like chinchillas, not in water like humans.

So I would assume submerging them in any water at all wouldn't be safe. Hamsters bathe in dust like chinchillas, not in water like humans.
You can let your hamsters swim as long as they can stop once they get tired. You might as well just named this video "DONT LET YOUR ANYTHING SWIM! IT COULD DIE!" because anything could die of swimming. Including fish....because of predators....like humans. So yeah
@RandomThingies No ^^; The thing is that the water can still make them cold and they easily get pneumonia. In the wild, Hamsters don't go for a swim and they burrow deep not to get rained on. So I would assume submerging them in any water at all wouldn't be safe. Hamsters bathe in dust like chinchillas, not in water like humans.
Hamsters can swim.. It will die when 1. Sick 2. Injured 3. Problems in a/ or ur hamster organs in their body u may allow them to swim by 1. Train already 2. Just err let them have fun 3. Not sick 4. no problems from the hamster 5. Not injury 6. No organs in their body are dangerous which can't make them swim *ESPECALLY THEIR LEGS !!!!
what was the lesson i learned? you should have talked in this and said why it was bad and not just a picture and music, more people would get the message
If you are gonna do something stupid, at least be a little bit responsible by having a way for the hamster to get out itself or have the water level be low enough for it to just stand in without drowning.
@CaroMarcel19 I hate when people say " If you don't know this then you shouldn't do this." I was like " How do you breed hamsters?" And this guy was like " If you don't know you shouldn't breed them." That's why I'm ASKING. And plus at least I went to the dude before I did it. People have to learn how to do things, nobody is going to ever know how to do anything perfect and also people make mistakes. It's life. So your comment "if you dont know this you shouldn't have a hamster blah"was retarded
i put my 2 hamsters in the garden pool then i decided to go to the toilet. i returned and my cat had the hamster in it's mouth so i chased after it for 5 minutes. it escaped. when i went back to the pool the other hamster had already drowned. i had my cat put down.
hamsters can swim....(im not saying that you should but chuck it in the sink) but yeah......and if its not that long its cool....they'll survive...so....yeah...bit pointless
@HardcoreMontages Unlike other mammals, hamsters do not have tympanic membrane. When water enters their ears, it can reach directly to their brain and it may result to death.
I have just reported 5 videos on here. One of a hamster dying, one of a hamster biting someone and thenm them near enough throwing it onto the top of the cage where it fell off the cage and onto the floor, one showing a dead hamster (looks like it died from wet tail) with some kid poking it hard, and some B***h throwing her hamster into water and leaving it in there with new means of escape. The video lasted for around 2 mins. You could tell the hamster was stressing. Disgusting.
@marianne1475 and YouTube haven't done a thing. Just posted a question/thread in the feedback section of help, feel free to contribute (posting maturely will have us more likely to be listen, so please reel in the caps and exclamation points and keep it as short as possible if you can)
Shit you people!... where in the world did you ever... ever....!! know that hamsters are swimmers.. .. they are rodents its not natural to them, when they swim its not because its natural to them but because they need to survive that ordeal of swimming because if they dont they will surely drown, so please you idiot owners dont even think about letting your hamster swim or even bath them.. !!!!! take care of your hamsters..
@smoochy23 Yes they can. It IS natural for rodents to be able to swim. They don't do it on a daily basis, but all know how to from birth. It's their instinct. Learn your stuff.
My hamster swims all the time, and he isn't scared. Hamsters "go to the toilet" when they're scared, and he never does. If the water isn't too deep, they can get out if they want to, and it's not too cold, letting hamsters swim is a great way for them to exercise. I let my hamster swim every few days, towel him dry, then put wrap him in a heat towel to keep him warm. I think it's fine.
ya u have the right idea. they are perfectly capable of it, and its great excercize! plush if they start to sink, you can always pull them out and dry them.i would only leave them in the water for 5-15 seconds tho.
Wow, just because an animal can swim doesn't mean it's supposed to swim. Think about it where are the animals from? Most of them live in deserts and would have no reason to need to swim. The fact is there is no need to risk your pets life just because you want a cute five minutes, hamsters are cute enough on their own, why get them all soggy and stressed out just for own amusement.
thats why you bathe them in shallow water, where there feet still touch the bottem but its just enough to get them clean....who in there right mind would make them swim long enouph to have time to die....
I used to bathe all 16 of my hamsters and they loved it. Unfortunately they have passed away either of old age or Cancer the Oldest one died Last September 2010 aged nearly 4 years old, his name was Oscar and I miss him loads. All of them were Syrian Hamsters.
@sandi43able this obvs shows that if you bathe your hamster(s) it doesnot mean they will die they can but 9 times out of 10 they wont i would not try it but everyone who thinks that hamsters will die
for all the ignorant people here: hamster could get a wet tail by letting them swim so they could die. Every of you who dont know that are not able to keep a hamster humanely.
@CaroMarcel19 As long as the water is clean it's fine to let your hamster swim, all mamals can swim for a reason and its excellent excersise for your hamster, just don't leave it in there for too long
@SantaFishes101 Having 'A' wet tail cannot kill them, but wet tail is a term used for hamsters when they have diarrhea from something that they have eaten or something that has stressed them out and yes it is deadly if not treated because it will dehydrate them.
OMG WARNING: BABIES CAN DIE IF THEY GET WATER IN THEIR LUNGS SO YOU BETTER NOT BREASTFEED THEM, DAMMIT, OR LET THEM GET ANY KIND OF LIQUID ANYWHERE NEAR THEIR BODIES.
I wonder how humanity has survived so long with all of these people giving their babies liquids to just HAVE. D|
Anyway, it is brilliant excercise for them, HOWEVER, make sure they can get out if they want to. If you left them both in for far too long, you are not evil as other people suggests.
@Trikenut012 There is important bacteria that must stay on your hamster and if you wash them, they can easily become victim to any disease. That's why women and men should douche themselves.... you get rid of good bacteria. :)
If hamsters can swim, you can let them swim, but only if under careful lookouts. Your hamster might flip over and get water in it's lungs, and that is deathly. My hamster swam for the past 5 yrs and nothing happened to her. Geez guys, stop writing comments to me like, "Omg, hamster should never swim, because they don't swim in the wild." Calm the f*ck down.

@meegzgotswag No ^^;
The thing is that the water can still make them cold and they easily get pneumonia. In the wild, Hamsters don't go for a swim and they burrow deep not to get rained on. So I would assume submerging them in any water at all wouldn't be safe. Hamsters bathe in dust like chinchillas, not in water like humans.

You can let your hamsters swim as long as they can stop once they get tired. You might as well just named this video "DONT LET YOUR ANYTHING SWIM! IT COULD DIE!" because anything could die of swimming. Including fish....because of predators....like humans. So yeah

If you are gonna do something stupid, at least be a little bit responsible by having a way for the hamster to get out itself or have the water level be low enough for it to just stand in without drowning.
LeoKoneval 3 months ago

All mammals can swim , it just needs a way out
TheNatureFilms 4 months ago 2

Disgusting.

I search for every “hamster swimming” video to repot it as "cruelty to animals".
Because it is:
CRUELTY TO ANIMALS!
Every hamster owner supposed to know: Hamster do NOT like to swim!!
They are afraid of water.
All they do is: SUFFERING FEAR OF DEATH.
As well they do NOT like to be aroused.
Showing those videos here is nothing but glorification of violence because it gives the wrong impression, that they like it.
So, THANK YOU sannasunda for your spreading the message around the world:-)

Shit you people!... where in the world did you ever... ever....!! know that hamsters are swimmers.. .. they are rodents its not natural to them, when they swim its not because its natural to them but because they need to survive that ordeal of swimming because if they dont they will surely drown, so please you idiot owners dont even think about letting your hamster swim or even bath them.. !!!!! take care of your hamsters..
smoochy23 5 months ago
@smoochy23 Yes they can. It IS natural for rodents to be able to swim. They don't do it on a daily basis, but all know how to from birth. It's their instinct. Learn your stuff.

My hamster swims all the time, and he isn't scared. Hamsters "go to the toilet" when they're scared, and he never does. If the water isn't too deep, they can get out if they want to, and it's not too cold, letting hamsters swim is a great way for them to exercise. I let my hamster swim every few days, towel him dry, then put wrap him in a heat towel to keep him warm. I think it's fine.
XFireyFlamesX 5 months ago
@XFireyFlamesX
ya u have the right idea. they are perfectly capable of it, and its great excercize! plush if they start to sink, you can always pull them out and dry them.i would only leave them in the water for 5-15 seconds tho.
mergals13 5 months ago
Wow, just because an animal can swim doesn't mean it's supposed to swim. Think about it where are the animals from? Most of them live in deserts and would have no reason to need to swim. The fact is there is no need to risk your pets life just because you want a cute five minutes, hamsters are cute enough on their own, why get them all soggy and stressed out just for own amusement.

I used to bathe all 16 of my hamsters and they loved it. Unfortunately they have passed away either of old age or Cancer the Oldest one died Last September 2010 aged nearly 4 years old, his name was Oscar and I miss him loads. All of them were Syrian Hamsters.

for all the ignorant people here: hamster could get a wet tail by letting them swim so they could die. Every of you who dont know that are not able to keep a hamster humanely.

wet tail from the stress of the situation....other risks being that they can drown, get pneumonia, freeze to death, etc.

julie123404 5 months ago
@CaroMarcel19 As long as the water is clean it's fine to let your hamster swim, all mamals can swim for a reason and its excellent excersise for your hamster, just don't leave it in there for too long
HardcoreMontages 4 months ago
@CaroMarcel19 a wet tail can't kill them. :P
SantaFishes101 4 months ago

Mammals can swim for a reason.
Anyway, it is brilliant excercise for them, HOWEVER, make sure they can get out if they want to. If you left them both in for far too long, you are not evil as other people suggests.

@AngelDreams123 You are ABSOLUTELY right! :D They 'can' swim, but it gets rid of good bacteria. YAY!!!!!!! YOU ROCK! :D
SmoothieKisses91 6 months ago
You didn't give a reason as to why they die so for that reason I'm out, if it's because they drown your an idiot for letting them drown
Trikenut012 6 months ago
@Trikenut012 There is important bacteria that must stay on your hamster and if you wash them, they can easily become victim to any disease. That's why women and men should douche themselves.... you get rid of good bacteria. :)
SmoothieKisses91 6 months ago
Good advice. Now I know I will let all my bred hamsters swim until they die. Thanks for the tip.
Oh, and 009 Sound System sucks.
SteveSpicerPortsmuth 6 months ago
If hamsters can swim, you can let them swim, but only if under careful lookouts. Your hamster might flip over and get water in it's lungs, and that is deathly. My hamster swam for the past 5 yrs and nothing happened to her. Geez guys, stop writing comments to me like, "Omg, hamster should never swim, because they don't swim in the wild." Calm the f*ck down.
