  • @ONLINEpredator123 do it on grass first to get ur technique right before you do it concrete :))

  • how does it NOT hurt ur frickin shoulder?

  • @epicNoahthegreat the first spot on ur shoulder to hit the ground should be the back, not the top

  • Oh diagonally not straight on

  • do u have any idea how hard it is to keep ur legs at a 90 degree angle when taking a big drop??

  • @afran17 ....lol funny enough, i can do it now...NOW THATS PROGRESS!

  • on concrete it hurts any way to stop this?? plz help

  • first of all you are off with you vaults need more straight

  • Another tip: Keep your legs at an obtuse angle, no less than 90 degrees. The dude in this vid does it right. Helps to absorb shock and keep momentum moving forward.

  • :))

  • MY BRO CRAZY

  • to everyone saying it hurts when you roll, your doing it wrong then. its really smooth and easy to get down. try it on grass for like a month so u get a good form down then try to do it on concrete.

  • Everytime i do it my collarbone hurts . oO

  • thats not parkour. thats just jumping

  • at first i couldnt get my rolls down after i watched this i can do them now and my ladings hurt alot less but my rolls still can be perfected, ive only been doing parkour for about 2 months, any tips?

  • whr can download all this kind of video?

i mean parkour video with free website

  • that was not a parkour anyone could do that

  • @camreno24

You seem not to know what parkour really is....If you believe showing off with flair and flips is parkour then fuck you because you are insulting the true parkour community. Watch this video to learn some good knowledge :D

well, my link isn't working so just look up "Parkour: Nature of Challenge" it has 4 parts.

It is a wonderful video about the true nature of parkour.

  • Its not a roll unless you let your momentum carry you through it. So many people say "rolling doesnt do shit, my ankles still kill". Your pretty much falling with style. When you land on the ground immediatly go head over heals

  • i swear to god i saw a n00b do this and he did a somersault, landed on his head and went to the hospital :0

  • @AreYouReadyForThis56 ROFLMAO :DDDD Man, I bet that was a laughable moment :D I'd laugh my ass off in his face if I saw him.

  • when i roll it hurts after like 3-4 rolls prolly cause most of the time my head gets hit so this guide is super helpful

  • this is the only thing that i cant do properly so i like roll on my side and onto my back, hence why i cant to freerunning

  • the roll was actualy a clssical fail once i rolled i felt some major pain on my ass bone

  • Comment removed

  • my spine hurt (next search: how to build back muscle)

  • spines are the fucking most annoying things ever,,,,

  • so are you supposed to use your palms, or the back of your hand?

  • one time rolling saved my life.

I lived in a apartment complex and I had jumped off the wall surrouning a large garbage can. When I landed i rolled just as a car flew by behind me.( and its his fault because you're not supposed to drive that fast in the parking lots XD)

  • you don't have to rol out for such a low drop

  • i did a practice roll on my tiled floor, fuck it hurt

  • ok guys i know you guys will make fun of me but

    Im 13

    160 lbs Mostly fat

Can barely pick up 20 lb weights

I wanna learn parkour but what training should i do first

  • @MrPepsi305 probably try these rolls first, and some strength training (pushups, sittups, etc) and maybe some hurtles?

  • @MrPepsi305 same as JKCGMV13 sed, but as think since ur starting core strength will be more important, so start with some basic crunches and planks.

  • @MrPepsi305 constraint from american diet

  • @MrPepsi305 dont worry about it! :) I was overweight but by training (rolling, pushups, pullups) I lost weight really fast and got great at parkour. don't overload yourself, just slowly get more and more fit(stay outside as much as possible) and above all, dont worry!!

  • lame

  • it seriously hurts when im rolling

  • where?

  • on my shoulders

  • @pakmailgatal1i can you help my how to freerun I really want it but I don't know how plz help my

  • @pakmailgatal1i if it hurts your shoulder you either have a poor technique, or that your hands or your elbows are not suppressing enough impact, so that too much impact go to your shoulders.

if this is the case, try using your arms or your hands to suppress more pressure b4 rolling over.

  • @pakmailgatal1i, work on your technique from crouching on the floor and then rolling, make shure to let it heal, if it hurts that badly, dont roll for a while, look for as many videos on the internet of how to roll that you can and if all that doesnt work then add muscle to the shoulder. But its probably how you are rolling.

  • then you're doing it wrong

  • @pakmailgatal1i then you must try to improve your techinique, play with different forms, and find the one that is perfect for YOU

  • @pakmailgatal1i thats cuz your technique is'nt right. maybe something minor tho...

  • @pakmailgatal1i It means you are doing something wrong.

  • @pakmailgatal1i If it hurts you are probably putting to much on your spine. Start in the grass and work with a small jump. After you get that down you should try jumping at deck level into the grass. The roll is very effective allowing you to continuously move, stand up, and still keep momentum to run.

  • @pakmailgatal1i Practice makes perfect. Keep rolling on concrete or have someone spot check you to make sure you have good form. And note: it's never going to feel great.

  • Dang thats a good roll

  • I always hurt the bone at my back on the left side of my butt when I role on concrete or bricks... Anyone knows how to prevent this?

  • same here

  • on youtube search "Ryan Doyle roll tutorial" He has the best roll tutorial and talks about advanced rolls also! very helpful.

  • yes its wrong if you don put down your feet.

you'll probaly brak your back lol

  • hmm...nice tutorial...it can easily be learned...im doing the same..

  • yah, you should land rolling off your shoulder blade(upper back)

  • is it ment to hurt a bit on your sholder or not at all?

  • No, your shoulders should not touch the ground. Keep practicing, I'm doing the same at the moment.

  • im really skinny so it hurts when i do it on concrete

  • it doesent metter if your skinny, if you do a really good roll, u wont have problems.... ( own experience )

  • @SuperTraceur94 im too but u can do it ur own style so u dont hurt ur self or ur just doing it wrong

  • @SuperTraceur94 i doesnt really hurt much anymore

but its more slight pain just as i roll which is usually over before im up

  • @SuperTraceur94 Its just being performed wrong, im fat (but obviously fit) and i hurt myself, its a matter of learning it correctly then it doesn't hurt as much.

  • @SuperTraceur94 me too

  • @SuperTraceur94 me 2 dude

  • @SuperTraceur94 @pakmailgatal1i

    get pads, that might help

  • Meh. It could be more detailed. I don't think it's got enough depth to teach the tecnique right. It leaves a lot up in the air.

  • Fair enough, but the way you tuch down with one foot at a time is NOT good. In small drops such as this one it won't matter but in the higher ones, say 7 feet+, It's gonna screw up your knees before you know it.

  • Is it wrong if i dont put down my feet?

  • lol yeah, just imagine falling from 6 feet without using your legs.... do you think it would work? probably not

  • i dont think this a great video for beginners. when you jump always land with your hands between your legs, not with yoour elbows out and then just use your dominate foot to push you gently over your non-dominate shoulder.

  • My problem is the landing. When I go into the roll, it's the BOTTOM of my shoulder blade that hurts. It seems to be where all my weight lands. Anyone overcome a similar problem??

  • Trust me. This response goes out to Sandinthestorm and CUBENATIONZ! If you watch my video I do about the same thing. I made the video, posted it to APK, and they helped me out a lot.

Make sure you BEND your knees so you can transition into the roll! I hurt my shoulder and neck like that a lot as well!

This tutorial is not too in-depth... I am really surprised since this si coming from APK

  • i had that problem when i was first starting to roll.

i watched a few vids and practiced until i found something that didnt cause me pain and worked.

  • yea i had that same problem.tuck your body in more as you roll thats what helped me if it dont work tell me ill give you another idea

  • I have the same problem, no solution yet, but I've only been doing it for a week =), I'm an uber noob, lol

  • place your forearm down first after your feet. if you place it flat( only the forearm) then that will absorb some extra shock and get you in the feel of the movement.

  • hey i try and do this but i never get my back right so i never cum back up properly any tips???? ASAP

  • Could you be more specific? Are you facing the wrong way, or not landing on the balls of your feet...?

  • no i mean wen i roll i roll sideways not forward

  • thnx loads but when i do mine in to a hard surface my shuolder hits the ground to hard :/

  • thx alot!

  • Whats a good way to practice rolls in the grass or what?

  • good ip...thks

  • you do it well

  • dont forget to tuck your head. try and tuck it to your chest or what ever shoulder you arent rolling over.

  • Comment removed

  • thx 2 you for learning me that. i always smash my head on the ground. im thanking you!!!!!

    (good vid XP)

  • i keep smackin my ass every time i try this

  • lol

  • i have a realy boney spine so if i do this will it hert ?

  • Well, you kinda roll diagonally across your back, so it shouldn't hurt that much. Wear a thick jacket if you're skeptical.

  • thanks for the tip :)

  • always hurt my waist (bone)

  • I have been practicing this alot and I have gotten betteratit, I no longer get hurt when I roll, and it alos doesn'thurt that much toroll on Cement.

  • I can't do rolls without starting momentum, which shows that momentum is the key really. Just throw yourself gracefully at the ground. Really.

  • guys its rly not smart to watch one video and start you need to watch a whole lot start from basics and move up

do not feel like your gonna get this on first try, you need to do it for like 30 min and keep trying maybe you will get it right and base it off that

  • i keep hurting my butt when i do this

  • nice roll :)

  • @dodgesxt

Yeah. I've finally started to get it right. It's real hard. Haven't tried it on concrete yet though.

  • The roll is the hardest technique in my opinion. The higher the drop is, the better it has to be.

However, the roll isn't worth Gold when It comes to drops. It's worth Silver. Even if you got a good technique you need great strenght to protect knees, joins, hips and the lower back from longterm injuries. The secred of the roll is leaning a bit forward while landing so the force pushes you forward. When I do a roll I don't have to push myself forward so much - the power from the drop does.

  • when I roll I usually end up hurting my shoulder, any advice?

  • Me too :(

    -Hallie

  • LOL... That means you roll too much on the SIDE... Roll in the front... diagonaly across your back... And place your hand in front of you, not sideways... That helps alot! Trust me.

  • Well i have a problem whenever i trie this i end up rolling on my side in a fat mans roll

(no im not fat) and i hurt my hips and my lower back... any advice?

  • don't tuck your shoulder as much, maybe try some variations on grass

  • how so?

I mean when i roll i go (fall) down onto my hands and fore arms, tuck my shoulder and upper arm under me,and then i kick up so my momentum carries me through the roll...

Is that the right way or should it only be the shoulder itself?

  • oh sorry i thought you ment you were going into a log roll ya well the way you explained it sounds about right, the way i do it is i cushion myself with my arms a bit, but not hard, then i tuck my shoulder and my head, and it just rolls smoothley, so just keep practising i guess, and dont just roll everytime the same, change it up a bit everytime and see what works

  • oh ya and try not to fal as much downwards but go more at an angle towards the ground

  • alright thanks...

  • try practicing from ground on grass without jumping off anything, just squat and roll, then you can try jumping from the ground just do a horizontal leap but give yourself some more air, and do your roll that way. If you do it that way you will roll slower so you can analyze everything a little better. I know its been two months so you have most likely already solved the problem, but I thought I would give my imput.

  • you should start off on something not as hard as concrete but not a soft as grass. And, dont start off by jumping. Just roll on the ground a few times before you do jumping.

  • Actually, a roll should be learned on concrete first. It hurts at first, but that's because you're doing it wrong. By hurting you'll train your body not to roll over that spot.

If you start out on something soft, you could do it wrong and never know the difference at first, but it will hurt a lot more when you start doing it on concrete. You'll essentially have to relearn the entire trick.

  • If u start on concrete u may not only hurt yourself, u may break smthng... And hurting yourself, even a bit, is never good. It may end up very bad in future after a big amount of time taking lil injuries1

  • Of course I don't mean starting out at a point where you could hurt yourself, like diving off a roof. I mean starting small and learning from there like anything else.

  • yeah, I learnd it also on concreate but the first few times I did it very solwly with one knee on the groud or something but I recommend

to the ones who never did the roll to try it the first few times to do it on mats just to get the feeling then move on to hard ground

  • don't call it a trick, because it's not a trick.

  • @stratman3001 but it hurts so much [cry]

  • yo me and some of my friends used to practice parkour but we could never do it on concrete without hurting our backs does anyone have any tips (and i dont want to were pads i just want to be able to do it in a t shirt) thx

  • If you USED to do it why do you care about it now?

  • used to meaning its winter so its slippery wet and snowy everywhere

  • so... I still do it =/

  • I cant follow it correclty when i roll i go sidewards and everyone laughs at me

  • hurts my shoulder

  • no it doesn't if you do it right , your shoulder doesn't hit the ground it just transfers the momentum. if done correctly all force of impact will be absorbed 'n' transfered into forward momentum

  • Roll onto the part of muscle behind your arm-pit.

  • that's a pretty sideways roll. i thought you were supposed to roll just under the scapula (shoulder bone), or is that the bone you're talking about? either way it feels weird, like i almost have to flip into it. Am I tucking too much? Not enough?

  • While I am not sure exactly what you mean (I would have to see a video), I do think that the roll should be sideways, and I agree with ParkourTeamAltitude; when I used to go over my shoulder (not touching it to the ground), and then land on my shoulder blade, a martial artist who saw it called that a flip. Watch this video watch?v=KWyRFHv9Ip4 from 0:04 to 0:10, and you will know what I think should happen once your body hits the floor, pretty much.

  • crap

  • Agreed too!

  • Why is everyone hating on APK tutorials...?

  • Yeah I don't understand it at all. They are some of the best guys out there right now. There techniques are great in all the vids I've seen!

  • grand roll on a hard surface i hate it when they roll on grass in other vids concrete aint scary if u roll rite

  • You're supposed to land INTO a roll, not land, and then do the roll after you land.

  • he did land into a roll

  • a roll tutorial shouldn't be performed after a drop. it is aimed to beginners after all...

horrible landing btw, he looks like he gets slammed on the pavement, not absorbing any impact through his legs, but only during the roll. that's not what the roll is for.

  • you definately do NOT know what you're talking about

  • agreed.

  • agreed -_-

  • Agreed

The whole point of a roll it to remove the pressure of landing from your legs and transfer it to forward momentum (i.e "the roll". You are doing the roll incorrectly and might as well not be doing it if your absorbing the impact in your legs before the roll.
