Hoooo, nice job man, but, you gotta get that that cowbell down! It means so much! Remember, "I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbell"!
@NintendoSwii Well, there's NO way of doing it with your hand and playing all the toms. Nowadays, I just play it constantly with my left foot trigger and play all the tom notes. Maybe I'll redo it one of these days.
Just curious since making this video have you changed the fill @ 2:22ish? Because I would post a video of me playing it the correct way (and Im not trying to be an ass) but the pattern played on the ride should cont. with tom hits betwixt the ride hits...
@camair2112 Actually, I believe it's flams on the tom and is actually an effect, not played that way, so I just play single hits. If you can play it 'the correct way', have at it. I think one could probably do it, but I don't think Neil did it like that in the studio. He overdubbed the cowbell on the album, so why not this part too?
I just checked the actual master recording isolated track of the drums from Moving Pictures and there are NO hits in between. These are clearly some kind of mini-delay put on the track to immitate flams with one hands. You can also hear it in the album version of the lower fast run on the toms right after this fill in question. It sounds like rolling flams which is basically impossible to play without triggers. I stand by my version. If you want 'proof', I will do a little demo of isolated stuff
@Brian347600 YES... I know that, unfortunately, I don't have 3 arms and this is one song where Neil admitted to overdubbing the cowbell (AT THE TIME), nowadays, he plays the cowbell constantly with his left foot, something which I NOW have the ability to do with some electronics I recently purchased, but at the time of the video, I did not, so it is simply a logistical problem that I solved as best as I could for this video.
@Pauliewanna Hello !!! First of all, I'd like to say your playing is awsome !! I really enjoy your videos. As for the cowbell, I invite you to look at Martin Periard's version of this song to see how he gets around playing it...
I really hope you'll see my comment as a compliment to your playing and that you won't be offended by it !! Keep on playing !!
that's a good work around, but Marty is still missing a few cowbells when the rolls on the toms happen -- it's pretty much unavoidable. I'll post MY current workaround which is basically Neil's current workaround -- playing constant cowbells with foot trigger.
i just want to say that by far you are the best drum cover drummer that is on youtube. in my humble opinion.and could you do a cover for RUSH"S BRAVADO.
I did a cover of bravado and it got yanked. Since then I've tried to repost it and even re-recorded a new version with my drums way louder than the music and it wasn't accepted either, so unfortunately, it's a no-go.
Yes, absolutely awesome!! You know Neil probably doesn't play the cow bells when he does it live, it seems like it would be impossible. By the way, have you done a series on high hat techniques? I noticed on the little part on the high hat that you lifting up with your foot a little bit to give a bit of different sound, but not lifting all the way up. How is this done? I probably wouldn't even have noticed something like that and just played it without it, but I can't play that song anyway lol
Ey up Stoney, it's Brooksy here ! First time I've seen yer vids, a bit cack if you ask me ! Seriously, love the Witch Hunt part at 2:14 where you rattle the cymbals then follow up with a loverly roll. Well done eh ! Love Brooksy
Ah, Brooksy ya old knob polisher. Nobody else can say 'shit' in so many ways and still be so affable. I guess I should say 'thank YOU very much!' [that's my geddy impression] Incidentally, how did you know it was me? did you follow a month old link?
Hey Lemonheater, thanks for the kind words. If you click on my username "pauliewanna" and then hit "see all 62 videos", go to page 2 and the last movie on the right in the first row is "the weapon"... enjoy!

I believe Neil plays the cowbell with his left foot in concert. But... when MP was recorded, I'm pretty sure it was an overdub.
As far as Hi-hat technique, I have done some of that. Look at part 8 of foot technique and part 3 of hand technique.
Pauliewanna 2 years ago
On second thought, I remembered, I did a 7 part series on JUST hi-hat. Check it out.

Yes, especially with JUST acoustic drums.

Type in Red Lenses. There are a few who play it. One guy kills on electronic drums.
stwla888 3 years ago
Yeah, I've seen it. Kuzinrob's version is killer. I could play it, but I don't have Electronic drums. So I'm not going to do it.
